Bryan Murray to make a "hockey announcement" at 11am
stevkrause replied to edicius's topic in General
Miller is honestly the ONLY starting goalie in the league today, that I would feel completely comfortable with giving a contract longer than 3 years... I wouldn't have a problem with the likes of Lundqvist either, but not as strong as Miller... there are just too many variables to a goalies game/health to be locked in long term with one... -
INCREDIBLY under-rated... he should be a head coach in the NHL...

I don't want to get off topic, but Salei has been everything we needed from him and then some, he's a veteran, bottom pairing, stay-at-home d-man making less than 1m a year... to expect more of him is silly, he's done very well in the role he was asked to play... Ericsson has been maddening, because he has games where he looks like a top 2 d-man and then he has games where he looks like he doesn't even belong in the league... all and all though, you hit the nail on the head with expectations of them all - we should not expect Norris quality play from a bottom pairing and they have all been better than a VAST majority of other teams 5/6/7 d-men...

Poisonous because they want to win and Colorado wants nothing to do with that these days? Anderson was touted as a consummate team guy in Florida and with the other moves made by Col lately, I have to believe the problem lies higher up and not on the players... remember, this is the team that wanted Roy to be its GM... someone at the top is making poor decisions and putting poor people in place there EDIT - Just read the article and although I think it was a good move by Ottawa to bring him back, I think the price and term is VERY questionable... -
Sub-par at best this season... good potential and still young enough to project better, but this season he has had a LOT of mental gaffes, that make Ericsson's decision making look like that of a young Nick Lidstrom and he does not play to his size AT ALL... lets not make him out to be more than he is... He's still young and has had the growing pains any rookie will and I'm not saying he's bad, but he has a LOT of growing to do and isn't there yet...

not just next year, but long term... unless injured, there is no reason he should ever be scratched, his value cannot be quantified in pure stats and as I've said a million times, he is the type of player you win championships with.

The two mentioned already are hands down the biggest losers from the 2010-2011 off-season Lebda and Boogard - road maps of what NOT to do as a GM -
Great beer, hockey as a national pass-time, women allowed to walk around topless... Canada's nothing but a win in my book!

Marc Methot - he's always played with an edge, pretty decent defender actually, but he seemed to have an extra chip on his shoulder last night If we were in Canada, they would have an update of a star player on every channel

Anyone else thinking that maybe Dats had a touch of the flu as well? He looked a little lethargic before this and I think they may have just pulled him to keep him from getting hurt, when we were already up and he, already sick... as for Raffi, as wingfan said......... eep....

Probably shouldn't report false data, it says nowhere that he is starting, just that he's available for tonights game, as in backing up

If Chicago stays in 7th, I would gladly take 2nd... you can't discount the toll the travel takes and whatever path takes us the least miles to the SCF, that's the path I want...

I'm VERY surprised... I honestly thought he was done for good...

Something I agree with... I feel dirty for agreeing with anything Bettman is instituting...
-
I am really almost starting to think the game needs an off-ice official, who can see replays and over-rule calls and/or radio to on-ice officials to call them when missed... I know it's a slippery slope, but with how fast the game is and how bang-bang plays are AND in the interest of removing head shots, something's got to give... This hit was a beauty and there was NOTHING wrong with it and I'll even go one further and say that if the game had been closer, this may not have been called, but the ref could have associated it with frustration and therefore, assumed it was dirty...

Owners back Gary Bettman with 5-year contract extension

They like having a yes-man that is just a figurehead for them and never challenges them to improve the league and make the hard decisions... pathetic... -
Zetteberg and Datsyuk no longer on the same line
stevkrause replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I think they also want to see where he finishes, so they don't overpay because of his consistency, where Howard hasn't deviated too much... I agree he's not a top priority, but I think it also has to do with his position and them wanting to know Nick will be back for sure first... -

I don't think they'll overpay either, but if someone else wants to throw big money at him, let him go... but at 1-1.25 a year for a bottom pairing guy, I'd rather him stay... also, what comments are you referring to? Do you have any links to articles inferring that? -

Both are big, left handed d-men, making less than 1m, playing bottom pairing minutes, that don't play to their size and are prone to mental gaffes, the difference maker to me, is that one of them has already been here for a couple years and knows the system pretty well and has had more good games than bad this season and will stand up for teammates when called upon, whereas the other could be dangled for trade bait in the off season, since there is still the allure of "potential" due to his age and high draft stock... for what we need out of said player, I think Ericsson fits into our long term plans better and also is the more solid player RIGHT now, not to say that Kindl couldn't potentially develop into more over time, but it is what it is... -

I was surprised he finished the game, that was ugly looking indeed... we definitely need him right now, next to Nick, he's been our best d-man this year -

Ericsson has been affected since Raffi has been up and down, he seems to struggle when changing partners and needs that consistency to be the most effective, which is a cause for concern with the way the NHL game is played... with that said, I still would take Ericsson's bad decisions over Kindl's bad decisions at this point...
