ok, where's the hidden camera, someone is clearly playing a practical joke on them now, 6 of their top 6 now out?! This is some BAD luck... we BETTER catch them in the standings now... By the way, you forgot Salo (although he's always injured, so I guess it's just par for the course with him) They could pull some major rent-a-player deals with all the open capspace to LTIR for right now, they could always waive someone if needed when they come back to become compliant...
-
It might be an overpayment for a team with some history, but for a team just struggling to put butts in the seats and barely making the cap floor... they have to pay SOMEONE... I think they're just greatful to actually be keeping a player they can market to their fans as a face for the franchise

He's trying to get the band back together

What the hell does Abs have to do with Eaves? It wasn't an Abs or Eaves question and Eaves also has a couple goals in that span, whereas Abs has none... Eaves is a natural goal scorer, who is a great skater that has just taken on the role of a bottom 6 guy, Eaves can play in all situations and his versatility is what makes me compare him to Cleary, that and his work ethic... you need guys like that, that can be dropped into any situation
-
He had a chance at $3-4 million contracts last season, maybe it's not just about the money to him anymore, also, who's to say Detroit couldn't give him 1.5 considering cap changes... I'm not even saying he is going to come here, or that Detroit will even want him, but to suggest that it's completely out of the question for him to come here on the cheap, is wrong...
-
Where has he ever said he wants more? Also, he has lost the PP time he was seeing and since guys have become healthy, he's lost TOI too... and even then, he's still been very solid on the PK and great on the forecheck... he's Dan Cleary 2.0, but with a harder shot...
-
There is no reasonable case one can make against keeping Eaves and to even suggest it is ridiculous - he is the type of player you win cups with and not only does he NEED to be brought back, he needs to be brought back long term
-
Ok, who had 2 games in the pool, you win... I bet the Vegas odds-makers set this comeback's over/under at 1 game...
-
Agreed - One year at 850k or less and he will be back, as long as he still wants to play... I think Miller is probably gone regardless of what happens with Draper, unless there is some unexpected trade which sees prospects such as Emmerton, Mursak, etc shipped away... I've mapped out multiple situations and not a single one of them, does bringing Draper back, at a discounted rate, NOT make sense... he's a capable, smart NHL player, who makes smart plays and provides leadership, if you can have that at under 1m in a "filler" role, why wouldn't you?
-
Why is that so crazy to suggest? I could see him coming here on a 1 year deal for 1m and that's not too far off of 750k... keep in mind, he was willing to sign here for a pro-rated salary of about 270k for half the season, so why is 750k for a full season not a chance? You'd be surprised what players will sign for, for a chance to win a cup...

Kaberle would be a good fit if we were cutting Rafalski was retiring as well, they're very similar in styles (lots of offensive upside, but defensively a little weak) Also, who's LiNdstrom? That is unacceptable on this board...
-
Can we PLEASE make a pinned topic about this already, it seems like there is a new one every week... This is just off of ONE search and one and a half pages for "Lidstrom retire":
-
I was more talking talent exchange, someone had asked if he would be worth trading for and what he was like... I wasn't even looking at the numbers, or the feasibility of it... Some people will always hate Hudler, no matter what he does...
-
Rafalski's making 6 million, but with that said, he's worth every penny when he's paired with a big, stay at home d-man...
-
Because it will get Kindl off the ice and even out the minutes... it was a hell of a lot better before he went down... the point I'm driving at, is what "trade bait" that's out there right now, would improve our D over what we currently have and with the capspace available? The issues are fundamental and we have a great D core, they just have to get back to basics...
-
As a sidenote, if we're looking to add to the D, I just pulled off a 3 team deal in NHL 11, where I sent Miller and Pyett to Washington for Matt Bradley and then sent Bradley and Kindl to Boston for Boychuck and a 1st round pick in 2011, so that's completely feasible in real life, right?
-
Our D will improve considerably when Stuart returns... and the 47 shot game is a bit of an anomaly... it's the soft goals and poor rebound control that Howard has shown lately that concerns me, not the goals he has no chance on... with that said, I think Howie will be fine and we don't need to find a new starter, but I think we most certainly need to look for a legit backup, just in case. I'd send Kindl and a pick/prospect to Carolina for Pitkanen in a second...

I'm not going to try and know what Holland is thinking, but if I were him, I would be peeved with Snow, because claiming Nabby made no sense - I would have understood it MORE and harbored no ill will, if a legit team claimed him... yes, he was almost certainly going to get claimed by someone else, but it's just the poor tact of NY and Snow that would irk me if I were a fellow GM... with that said, I'm glad he didn't go to a WC team either...

This thread took a weird turn... I think if there is another call-up this season, it should be Ilari and to be honest, I thought he should have been called up before Tatar in the first place... I was trying to find online his waiver eligibility, but was unable to - He's exempt for this season, but next year he isn't, regardless of games played, due to his age, correct? Anyone have any additional input on this?
-
Good read In reply to the article though - I don't think Holland will be dealing with the Islanders anytime soon, unless the deal HEAVILY favors Detroit and Martinek for a 2nd sure as hell isn't that...

By. ANY. means. necessary.

Ding. Ding. Ding. As I've already said SEVERAL time on this topic...
-
Agreed... if nothing else, just for a shake up... now, I'm not advocating this happen during the season AT ALL, as coaching changes during a season (especially for a team that's still top 3 in our conference) usually only cause more problems, but this is something that needs to be seriously looked at in the off-season... I don't think Larionov has any desire to coach, or I think he would have already had a position somewhere...
