There should be a rule allowing teams to buy players out in the final year of their deal, during like a one week period before FA starts, where the team is responsible for 100% of the players salary monetarily, but none of the caphit... this way, teams can't use it as an "out clause" for longer contracts, but at least in the final year of the deal, the teams gets rid of the player (while still paying them) and they have a chance to actually go out and try and find another job at the NHL level, rather than being sent to AHL purgatory where their career ends... I think we can all agree that Souray isn't worth 1/5th of that contract, but I'd gladly take a chance on him here at like a 750k cap hit...

NY Could just LTIR DiPietro and send one of their MANY youngsters down to clear the space while he's on a conditioning stint... if Snow doesn't put in a claim, my only logical understanding will be that he only plucked up Nabby to keep him from going elsewhere (not even necessarily Detroit, but from another team making a claim)

That son of a b stole my thoughts! Where's my tinfoil helmet?

Who is this Frazen character you speak of? So many Swedes in the system, I didn't even know we got a new one!
-
yea, no kidding... in all seriousness though, if they don't make a claim on him, it will show just how big of a joke their claim on Nabby was, Emery will be dirt cheap as well AND it's a two-way deal, so even if Nabby DOES report, they can send him down and if he clears waivers, he won't cost that much to keep in the AHL (where they also are pretty thin at goaltending)
-
interesting... I wonder if the NYI will make a claim and I'm being serious... if nothing else, maybe he can give DiPietro some fighting lessons
-
Dead on... no need to rush him, especially when we own his rights, without it counting towards his contract as long as he's over there...

The first time was disgusting because Brashear didn't deserve it... Cooke on the other hand...

We should probably trade Datsyuk and Zetterberg too... maybe we can get a young North American player with a mean streak!!! or better yet, full roster turn over! first, trade Miller and Draper to Washington for Ovechkin and Backstrom, then trade Howard to Vancouver for Luongo, then bring Gerard Gallant out of retirement and trade him to Calgary for Jerome Iginla... trade Stuart and Rafalski's no trade clauses (not the players themselves, but actually trade their no trade clauses for a bag of pucks - this frees the player up to then be traded), then trade Rafalski for Atlanta's next 12 first round picks and Stuart to Tampa Bay for Vinny Lecavalier and Marty St. Louis... then trade Filppula for Boogard (who needs a soft euro that's defensively responsible and capable of 70+ pt seasons??!!? - we need toughness!) promote McCollum, Kindl, Brendan Smith and a 14 year old prospect from BC - because he won a ton of fights in Bantam AAA and we really need that grit on the back end... force Holmstrom and Osgood to retire... finally, get everyone to restructure their contracts (even though the CBA doesn't allow contract restructuring - they'll make an exception!) for league minimum Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Ovechkin Franzen-Backstrom-Iginla Cleary-Lecavalier-St.Louis Abdelkader-Helm-Boogard Lidstrom-Ericsson Kronwall-Kindl Smith-14 year old prospect Luongo McCollum what an infusion of vets and prospects!

Is it wrong of me to want to see someone go McSorely on Brashear on Cooke?

The more impressive thing to me is the balance...

Even Ellis hasn't proven to be a mistake, guys have down years and we don't know what's going on with him off ice either... with that said, no one is perfect and he is going to have SOME mistakes, that's not that point, the point is that he has done one HELL of a job with them as a GM and deserves the credit he is getting.

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/trade_deadline/top25/index.html Scroll to the bootm - last player listed in top 25 I'm surprised the Wings would actually be interested in pursuing him (unless they're not, and this is all conjecture anyway) given his track record, not that he is a bad player, or wouldn't actually help a legit team, I just find it to be an odd fit here... Discuss.

wow, it didn't even look like that hard of a punch... if he didn't have bad luck...

I don't know, do you want me to rank every hockey tragedy ever? I was just making a point...

Concussions are no joke, that's why I applaud the cracking down on head shots... Still, that's still VERY odd that this would happen to 2 players on the same team... maybe it's something in their water

He's D huh, huh, huh?

I know this is just 2 games, but he has a GREAT shot and that right hand shot on the left side for the one timer gives our PP a whole new threat that we haven't had since Hull... I don't know what else the guy has to do to proove it, he flat out has earned the ice time and even when everyone returns, he needs to be given the ice time...

I agree with you on most of this post, but what goal, other than the Michalek one could he have stopped? Unless you want to blame his positioning on the first and say he went down too soon... one he was screened unluckily by Lidstrom, and the other 2 were deflected (one of which was a no doubter tap in and the other was a redirection from his own teammates stick that took an unfortunate bounce) With that said, I agree with you whole heartedly that defense can only be blamed so much and there have been other games where Howard definitely shoulders a good chunk of that blame this year, but last night just shouldn't be included, as it was such a freak night...
