I hope there was some "read reading between the lines" context to the letter Meehan sent - "Dear other NHL clubs, (listen f***ers) My client is only interested in a starting position, so please do not put in a claim on him unless that is an option. (Don't claim him, he only wants to play for Detroit and if you do, he won't show up and you'll piss me off, which you don't want to do since I represent 98% of the NHL) Thank you (tread lightly)"

I think the more likely scenario was that he wasn't willing to go anywhere else on the cheap and no one else wanted to offer him more, but this is Detroit - that changes everything

It is to discourage players from signing outside of the FA period and being "part-time players" or circumventing the cap with vets... it has its place, but I agree, it is frustrating... If anything, I think the NHL should essentially treat it like an RFA offer sheet, they go through waivers, but if a team claims them, they have to give the initial signing team compensation, based on the salary...
-
I still think Ozzie is done, but I agree that Miller is most likely to be the odd man out if it came down to it...
-
don't question the master, there is always something behind what he does, even if it doesn't seem that way on the surface... even if he doesn't clear, there was a reason for it...
-
Not only a keeper, but a LONG term keeper... I would seriously like to see Holland sign him to at least a 4 year extension and wouldn't be mad if he went upwards of 6 or 7 years in a deal, that's how much I believe in Eaves and think he can impact this team when given the chance (as he's showing this year)
-
Weekends aren't exempt... it's over by Sat at 12PM EST Note - If he had been placed on waivers Sat or Sun, then it's 48hrs... but since it was actually set into place on Friday, it's over after 24hrs... this is basically to dissuade teams from waiver activity on Sundays, most likely due to the country's asinine, archaic religious ties with Sundays...

What clock are you on? I wasn't aware it kicked in at 12:21... odd timing
-
He's starting to get back into NHL form... looked pretty good since Dats and Cleary went down, when he needed to and that's a good sign... the Bertuzzi-Flip-Hudler line is clicking right now and looking good...
-
A. That would SCREAM collusion and the league would probably step in B. Tampa is having a pretty good year and falls pretty low in the waiver priority list, so chances are that he someone higher will make a claim as well, if anyone is going to... yea, no kidding... I think one way or another, Kenny has an ace up his sleeve... even if nothing else, it is just a favor to Meehan to get Nabby back in the league to work with Holland to keep one of our other players and/or FA in the future at a cheaper price...
-
They still wouldn't have to decide within minutes... it would be 24 hours, hence why it is a 24 hour waiver period... a team can wait until tomorrow at 11:59AM to submit a claim and if they are the highest in the claiming order, they get him, it has nothing to do with when the claim is put it within the 24 hour period...
-
There's something to this, claimed or not, something just tells me he will be a Red Wing come deadine at the latest...
-
Call me crazy, but I actually think he's going to end up clearing, whether he basically makes it known he will just not report, or because his agent represents half the nhl and basically says "my client wants to go to Detroit, f*ck this up and maybe I convince one of your other players to make re-signing them hell when their current contract is up - your call"
-
Section 13.20 of the waiver section of the CBA - a player needs to be offered ONLY to the other teams that made a claim, before being traded... this is NOT the same as him going all the way through waivers again...
-
You do not need to expose a player to waivers to trade them...
-
They'd still own his rights until he fulfilled the contract, esentially forcing him into retirement...
-
I made a joke about this in the other thread... "Hey Lou......... " Let's see what NJ does...
-
If he makes it to NY.. NJ could claim him first and then move him or Hedburg...
-
They look so freaking timid and sloppy right now....
-
Hahahahaha... perfect!
-
I can't wait to see how this plays out...
-
This, this, this a thousand times this... I played at a pretty good level growing up and blew my knee out at 16... fast forward knee rehab and 10 years later when I joined an adult league and I had to teach myself to bend my knees that much again and was sore as hell, even now, 2 years back at it and I'm more of a "stand up" skater than I used to be (just due to the fact that my knee will never be the same and it can't take AS much extreme bending pressure) and I'm just now MAYBE at 75% of the skater I was... long story short, proper "hockey posture" is the key to strong skating...
-
Just to set things straight, he would not need to go back through waivers to be traded, but would have to be on said team for 24 hours before he can be traded I believe... Yep, crazy rules... basically this is just to encourage players to sign during FA and not wait until the season starts...
-
because I knew where this would go... it's like throwing a bloody piece of meat in the water and then saying "how did I know the sharks would start biting?" Back to Nabby - over an hour since any news... call me crazy, but I'm starting to think this is actually going to go down...
-
Exactly - but as I replied... lets stay on track here:
