There is no way Eaves is exposed to waivers with the way he's played here... as I said in another thread: I am going PURELY off of gut reaction and saying this is 100% speculation to create a story on a slow newsday... Eaves spot is safe and secure and I think the whole Wings organization knows that.

24 hours is the window to make a claim on a player on waivers.

Matt Pelech in Calgary... wow, another 1st rd pick on waivers... this guy needs a fresh start I think, kid had a TON of upside and is a big bodied, right handed shot (pretty hard one at that) D-man with a bit of an edge to his game... I blame Calgary's system for his development (or lack thereof)...

Something everyone needs to realize is that Patrick Eaves wasn't a 1st round pick on accident - He needs to finish his career here. Eaves is EXACTLY the type of player we need - He can fill many roles, plays with an edge and could play on higher lines in a scoring role as well if needed... Eaves was never even in question. PERIOD. The 14th spot came down to Miller or Ritola from day 1 of camp... Miller flat out won the job in camp and was a MAJOR component to our turned around penalty kill last season, also, Miller is not even 3 years older than Ritola.... To say that we've seen all we're ever going to from Miller(who only had 1 year in the Wings system), but Ritola (after 3 years in the Wings system) had more upside still, is ridiculous as well... Once again, I would have LOVED to have been able to keep both and hope by some odd chance that Ritola clears waivers (and I wish Ritola a very successful NHL career elsewhere if it's not the case)... but the fact of the matter is, that Holland made the right move.

There are guys that teams give up for nothing everyday in this league and a lot of them are much higher drafted than Ritola was, once again, it sucks, but it's part of the game... hell, we have two 1st Round picks on our everyday roster that other teams gave up for nothing (Cleary and Eaves) In Holland We Trust.

With the CBA and the already incredibly competitive market, it's REALLY hard to trade guys who aren't fresh highly sought after prospects, or known commodities... they're essentially trying to trade an asset that the other 29 teams know we have to put on waivers anyway, so Holland's hands are really tied here... Ritola certainly didn't help his stock in the pre-season (he didn't play poorly either, just didn't stand out) it sucks, but this is the cap world and we have to live with it...

Since his 09 playoffs, Abdelkader has been growing into one of my favorite Wings - his work ethic, spirit and desire to always add elements to his game continues to impress me... that was a PERFECT hip check and the fight was really a wrestling match due to Schenn, but Abs form looked greatly improved... the boxing lessons and the training with May seems to be heading him in the right direction when he does fight...

Or a way to raise Millers trade stock? although I don't think that's the case... also, I don't think Miller has peaked much more than Ritola has at this point... Miller is only 26 still and Ritola is 23... not a huge difference... with that said, I agree with you, I just can see the case from both ends and Miller has been one hell of a team guy and really helped our PK(don't forget he's MI born and bred too) I just wish we could keep both... Unless they can convince him to go on LTIR (which would take him out for at least 2 more weeks) don't count on that helping though...

I've thought he's played well too, but my gut just tells me that his time in the Red Wings organization has run out, fair or not... I hope I'm wrong and he clears and gets another year in GR, but my gut tells me he will be in a different sweater by Oct 7th... I agree... I like his game and had we not signed Modano, he may have been a Wing for a long time, and like I said, I still hope I'm wrong, but my gut tells me that his time has run out here... :/

haha, well played... To the OP(and most others in the thread) the train of thought here is dead on - it means nothing in the grand scheme, especially since majority of nights our opponents have iced a FAR more "NHL" roster than us. I LOVE the pre-season, because it allows me to get a real genuine look at prospects that may be upwards of 3 or more years away from being NHL ready and I get to do a little bit of armchair scouting so to speak, and as an OVERLY geeky hockey guy, I enjoy this probably more than I should... As covered though, pre-season means NOTHING in the grand scheme of things when your roster is already set...

it's downright comical these days... I've come to the conclusion that he tries random trades on the EA NHL series and if they go through on the game, he reports them as an e5 the guy is an imbecile...

How do you figure? Is it, or is it not, telling on someone, rather than confronting the issue yourself? Also, if I were a mod, this would already have been addressed and this post would have never been made.

This is against the board rules and should be addressed on its own, not by someone having to "report them" I'd rather people just learn to respect the board and the other posters here and follow these rules on their own without a mod having to police them. I'm not, nor have I even been the "run to mommy and daddy and tell on someone" type - I confront things head on.

Yes it did and that sore spot is ignorance. This is a RED WINGS MESSAGE BOARD - a board to discuss the Red Wings, NHL and hockey as a whole, not a place for people to spout off about their own personal agenda's and this goes for both ends, liberal and conservative. Furthermore, religion, sexual orientation, racial prejudices, etc, etc... have no place here.
