Has the Cheechoo train run out of NHL track?
stevkrause replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Right handed RW that put up 56 goals in this league once when paired with a dynamic passer, only 30 years old and essentially out of hockey... it's pretty crazy... With that said, if he can't land anywhere on even a 2-way contract, I'd LOVE to see Wing's brass put him in contact with Chelios/Hudler/etc's training group out in LA - Tell him to go train his ass off for a year, clear his head and we'll see him at camp next year for a tryout... the Wing's seem to be pretty good at reclamation projects and there's ZERO risk to this, worse case scenario, he's REALLY done, doesn't make our roster (Detroit or GR) and we lose nothing - Best case scenario, we resurrect his career and add another scoring threat. Chelios, get on the horn - first (light) duty as a front office member of the Wings. -
I wish I could have seen it, and I wish that there was video from last nights tilt, but the report on TSN and other things I've read, state that Bert took exception to the kneeing on Franzen from Orpik and got a 5 for fighting and a 10 minute misconduct for instantly jumping on him... If this is the Bert we will see this year, I am ECSTATIC - I don't want him dropping the gloves just to fight, I just want him to play with that snarl that he is capable of when he chooses to, finishing checks, standing up for teammates and just being physical on the opposition... if that ends up being the Bert we see this year, his re-signing will be HUGE

And his fists have been placed in Bert's locker.....

Agreed 1 million percent! (that's more than 100% I'm told) -

Even after death... always the champ... -
the Downey scrap on hockeyfights.com? that was the first place I went searching for this...

I don't dislike him personally and to be honest, he seems like a great guy off the ice... I just REALLY hate his game and think that he is WAY overpaid, especially when better players don't have contracts and/or have to go overseas to get work... if he were making league minimum, I still wouldn't want him taking a roster spot in Detroit, but wouldn't find his horrendous play as funny... I am actually happy for the guy that he got a payday elsewhere and I'm really laughing at Leafs management, not Lebda...
-
I know you're kinda being silly, but that would be great for our team... they could both have a great impact on one another and that line could be HUGE with Fil feeding them the puck and those 2 shooting... they appear to have developed a pretty good friendship and that's a great sign for line chemistry...
-
Even when paired with one of the top d-men in the league, Lebda is horrendous... look at last night, no Lebda, they win 4-1... it's a sign, haha but seriously, his signing may have very possibly been the single worst signing of the off-season by ANY team and that even rivals the bloated price tag and length that Boogard got from NY...
-
hahaha - good riddance Stat line for tonight's game against Ottawa: Player G A PTS +/- TOI Lebda 0 0 0 -2 20:23 Enjoy watching that all season Toronto...
-
Damn I wish I could watch this, I'm stuck in a jury duty waiting room with nothing but my phone for entertainment and there are too many people on the wifi to stream it to my phone... this season can't start soon enough
-
Here, let me fix those pairing labels: 1a: Lidstrom - Kronwall 1b: Stuart - Rafalski 2aaa: Ericsson - Salei
-
Feel that McCrimmon? That's the fire under your ass...

I've been a HUGE proponent of this change since the start of last season and I'm STOKED Babs is making this change... just when I think this off-season can't get any better, this news comes out!!!!

I've always suspected Brind'Amour...

Danny Markov wanted an OBSCENE amount more than he was worth and was pretty much begging to go back to Russia... Lilja saw a crapfest like Lebda get 1.5 for 2 years and then, rightly so, thought he could get at LEAST the same, if not more considering how much better he is than Lebda and kinda backed himself into a corner, which he has gone on record of saying he wishes he had done things differently... this is hardly the same If he signs a 2 way deal here, that would be hands down the best depth signing of the off season...

The clear choice is obviously Samuelsson Seriously though, I think it almost has to be Kesler - He has shown a ton of leadership, plays the game the right way and I don't think you can give either of the Sedin's the C, without giving it to both of them and having a co-captaincy (which would be gimicky and laughable at the NHL level) C - Kesler A - Sedin A - Sedin done and done.

Ray Whitney's stint in Detroit Marian Hossa's stint in Pittsburgh Zdeno Chara's time with the Islanders Goride Howe's stint with the Hartford Whalers Pavel Bure's time with the Rangers those are just a few that come to mind...
-
Wow, Archibald with 2 assists and a +4 as well...
-
Agreed, there's no room for him here, but the guy deserves a chance to play night in and night out in the NHL... good luck Meech! I don't know why, but I imagine him ending up in Philly... no rhyme or reason behind that, just a gut feeling...
-
Illitch really should right this wrong... there was no reason to un-retire it in the first place...
-
Quincey started in 45, switched to 4 at the end of his tenure here before waived... Bob McGill, Jamie Pushor, Uwe Krupp and Mark Howe have all worn 4 after Red as well...

Watched the "Shanhan Summit" special on NHL network

I was proposing a change that was not being tried... that thread was merely about the ones they were already trying and I didn't think it really applied, since this was only a theory and not the ACTUAL changes they were trying, maybe I should have titled it different, but that was what got me thinking.... -
So I personally hated every suggested rule change, except for the one about the offending team having to clear the zone before a penalty is called and not just by touching the puck - gives more 6-5 action and can basically improve the PP... The other one that peaked my interest, was the official off the ice on a platform - that in itself I HATE, but it got me thinking about ways to improve officiating and here is one I would LOVE to see attempted - 1 official, 2 linesmen, remove the 2nd official. Under this structure linesmen are allowed to call penalties as well (basically making it 3 officials on the ice), HOWEVER the linesmen can ONLY call penalties IN THEIR OWN END - no more official half way down the ice calling penalties without a clear shot... the only amendment to this would be if there was something happening behind the play, near the linesman that is in the other zone... also, the linesmen would not be able to rule on game misconducts, 10 minute misconducts, majors with intent, etc without conferring with the actual official first, finally, the actual OFFICIAL can override the linesman's calls if he disagrees and the would then just take a faceoff wherever the play was blown dead... obviously there could be adjustments to this as well, but I think it would make calls more legit, make players more responsible and open up the ice with one less body on it... whatdya guys think?
