neither of them would drop their lids, that's just classless

I agree, but there's no way LA lets Doughty get away, that's a franchise type player... My hopes are that Ericsson and/or Kindl take big enough strides forward this season, that we can justify one of them being a top 4 guy and that Kronwall finally takes that top 2 form that he is VERY capable of, combine that with Smith taking that next leap and making the roster, then we roll with it until Rafalski retires the year after and maybe THEN, we make a FA signing, hopefully targeting Brett Burns from MIN, or Ryan Sutter from NSH along with re-signing Kronwall - 2011 - Kronwall -Rafalski Stuart - Ericsson/Kindl Smith - Ericsson/Kindl 2012 - Kronwall - Burns Stuart - Ericsson/Kindl Smith - Ericsson/Kindl

I actually loved Mystery Alaska, I just know if takes a lot of crap... I personally agree it should be tier 2, I just think the general consensus is that its not... In regards to Kevin Smith, you're dead on, the guy is a genius and has NOWHERE near peaked to the guy who said that...

Slapshot is in a tier of its own... Miracle in the next tier, then Young Blood, Mighty Ducks and Mystery Alaska in the next tier and down the line... leading to pieces of crap like The Love Guru and the proposed hockey musical abortion of a movie... I have high hopes that this film will be able to crack that 2nd tier along with Miracle...

Mewes I would hope would be in for sure, he's hilarious, a great supporting actor and Mewes already plays hockey... Seth Rogan would be a great addition as well from a comedic standpoint, but I think he's kinda played himself into more of a leading role lately... Kristin Bell(Forgetting Sarah Marshall) would be a GREAT lead lady, she's funny, can actually act, is smoking hot, is from Detroit AND is a hockey fan, so I would have to imagine this project would entice her... Malin Akerman (Watchmen) wouldn't be a bad choice either for most of the same reasons (except she's from Canada) As for other supporting cast, I wonder if he could get Ryan Reynolds on board (Canadian and avid hockey guy, plus he's funny as hell) Rob Lowe would be a good small part/cameo addition as well... can I have a part in the casting?!?!?
-
Give him an attractive enough lead lady and a couple well known supporting actors and this could do quite well, just based on the fact that Kevin Smith is the writer/director and if it has a well known cast, those 2 thing alone would put it on the radar of the average movie goer... I'm pretty sure it will be a decent budgeted film and will be a nationwide release... I sure don't get the impression that Kevin Smith plans on making this an indy film...

hmm, conflicting stories... well, luckily the role doesn't require him to be the next coming of Bobby Orr, he just needs to be competent... so, get him with a coach and he'll be good to go...

Wrong - he CAN skate, he just isn't a good hockey player, which actually fits the role - http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=518446

He was great in Role Models and just has an overall likable persona, not to mention, finding A-list comedic actors that appeal to a mass audience that can actually skate(he grew up in Minnesota, so I'm going to assume he can skate) probably isn't easy AND he has a history with Kevin Smith (Cop Out, Jay and Silent Bob Strike back) and everyone knows that directors like to work with actors they are familiar with... All and all, I think it will be deeper than most expect, but still have a lot of laughs along the way... I like the casting to be honest...

you're confusing movies - that was a thread about a hockey musical which is an abortion of an idea that had NOTHING to do with Kevin Smith... someone in that thread, just happened to mention that Kevin Smith was in the early stages of developing a REAL hockey movie and this thread just confirms that and gives us more detail...

I am BEAMING right now....... exactly, I got goosebumps when I read this article...

There's not a smile emoticon on here that has a big enough smile to properly portray how I feel about this....

Agreed 100%

With DiPietro, and his injuries, every year is a junk year, OH!

Zetterberg and Franzen's contracts take them up to age 40 (look at Lidstrom, Yzerman, Chelios, Hasek, etc...) The Wings have a history of utilizing older players later in their careers than most teams, so these deals are not at ALL out of the realm of possibility of being completed... Hossa's deal is sketchy, as it takes him to 42/43 and he has had a few injuries with the way he plays - much less likely to get completed, but also only a 12 year deal... not 17 Pronger's deal - after 35, so if they want to sign him to 100 years, let them - it's on the cap regardless and it's their own choice if they want to eat future cap after he retires... This deal there wasn't even a grey area, it was flat out designed to circumvent the cap and there is NO way he will complete this contract, or at bare minimum (if you REALLY want to stretch) complete this contract at the value it is for. Keep things in perspective...

If you realize I'm kidding, then take it for what it is... don't take it literal, come join me in make-believe-land, it's fun here and it gets you through until training camp starts! :beerbuddy: :beerbuddy: :beerbuddy:

Next year when Seabrook and Doughty go RFA, Kenny should offer them both 30 year deals at 90 million dollars, 3 million dollar cap hit a piece for two of the better young d-men in the game! Pay them both 8-9 a year for the first 9 years then ride out the deal with minimum contracts!!!! Make it happen Kenny!!!!!
-
Same here, but they would probably want him to come in as some other capacity and maybe eventually take that role (even though I think he's one of the few that could step right in and do the job, with none or very minimal seasoning) - with that said, I think he's going to end up essentially taking the scouting position that Pat Verbeek vacated to go to TB when all is said and done...
-
there is a GM of the year award and it's awarded at the end of the season, it just doesn't have an official name, Don Maloney won it this past season - http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=530750
-
I like this one a lot too - possibly combine the 2 rules and we could be golden...
-
I really can't see him going anywhere else, his contract takes him to 35 and he's been very open that he loves it in the Metro Detroit area... at 35, I would have to imagine he'd take less to stay here, or the other alternative (which I don't want to say it's name, because it's a bastard league, with bastard teams and bastard jerseys!)... but I couldn't see him going to any other NHL team...
-
The already solved the Brodeur issue, by getting a backup that doesn't require Brodeur to play 70 games... if they keep Brodeur around 50 games in the regular season, he can be just as dominant in the playoffs as he had, even at his age... like I said in the Kovy thread, if NJ adjusts their system a little, he could fit in there VERY well with talented forwards like Parise and Langenbruner, they just need to let them run and gun a little more...
-
As was discussed in the Kovalchuk thread, I think Z and D for the C hit the nail right on the head for the solution... This way, a team can sign ITS players for LONG term (if you want to sign a 20 year old to a 20 year deal, knock yourself out) but generally speaking, free agents will be limited to 13 or so year terms at most...
-
I don't celebrate my favorite players birthdays, because it means they're one year older... I wish they could all stay in some weird space-time continuum, where they all stayed in their prime at 28 years old forever...

I like this idea... good way to keep it in tail... probably the best solution I've heard yet actually!
