I like the way you think!!! But instead, what if we just give them both 30 year, 90 million dollar deals? it's still only 6 mil against the cap for both of them!
-
even then, it's still edge TB, whether it's slight or not - now, you get a fully healthy Gagne playing on Vinny's wing for a full season - and then it's an ABSOLUTE pillaging...

When Seabrook goes RFA next year, Kenny should offer him a 30 year deal at 90 million dollars, 3 million dollar cap hit for one of the better young d-men in the game! Pay him 8-9 a year for the first 9 years then ride out the deal with minimum contracts What?? he could play until he 55!

wow indeed... Stevie is really doing one hell of a job down there...

Wow... not a single person is going to call me insane, tell me this is not NHL 2010 by EA, ask what I'm smoking, or explain in essay form why this trade wouldn't happen? I'm dissapointed in you LGW, I expect more of you...

unless their last name ends in 'elios seriously though, this is ridiculous, these long term deals should only be allowed to take a player to 40, as that is still a realistic age to be able to compete at a pretty high level in today's game and generally speaking, even if a guy does retire early, he's probably only shaving 3 years off his cap hit at most - not 6+... kinda defeats the "hard cap" EDIT - for the record, I love these long term deals and think they are genius from a GM standpoint and perfectly within the rules... but they should still have SOME sort of regulation on it...

David Clarkson to Detroit for Miller, Ritola and a 3rd round pick, gets them 2 bodies and saves 1.5 on the cap! Then send Zubrus back to Washington (where he played his best hockey) along with Travis Zajack for John Erskine, Matt Bradley, a high draft pick and a prospect... gets them below the cap, fills out their roster and replenished the farm system a little bit with what they lost to get Ilya... quick, someone get me Lou's number, I need to make a call!!!

wow... I really thought he was going to end up in LA - this really bodes well for NJ, otherwise that trade could have REALLY been a disaster with what the would have essentially given up for nothing... with that said, if NJ really hopes to get the best out of him, they're going to have to adjust their style a little bit...

Agreed, however, this was of his own doing... he chose to leave and in a poor way at that... It was his own greed and arrogance that led to his career in the NHL ending on a downswing - had he not repeatedly spit in Detroit's face and accepted his role here, he would likely be a first ballot HOF'er and would probably have 91 hanging in the rafters immediately following his retirement... instead, he will go down as a fringe HOF'er and prima donna that held a team (that basically saved his whole family and rescued him from the USSR, thus proverbially spitting in their faces) hostage, trying every possible way he could to get out of here, until he eventually did, because his own ego and arrogance could not accept the fact that he was not "the guy"...

This article mentioned it, so of course, I went and found it - I find it kind of funny that it embarrasses him - it's pretty impressive, at bare minimum the control with one hand... especially considering he was only a kid when the video was taken... anyway, here it is:
-
Maybe they're trying to sign Helm, Abs, or both long term - like 4+ years and need a reasonable caphit to do it, but if Modano signs, then a 1 or 2 year deal at a lower value will be signed and they will revisit it at the end of the contract - remember when Holland locked up Kronwall long term when he was still developing? Sometimes you pay for potential early and it ends up being a steal in the long term, maybe Holland and co see that in one or both of Abs and Helm and this is what's holding it up........
-
agreed... he is certainly the heir to the lofty captain throne that is the Detroit Red Wings captaincy - his 2 predecessors will only go down as 2 of the all time greatest players to ever lace them up, but that's all... need a good head on your shoulders to step into those giant shoes...
-
Personally, just for the fact that in a worse case scenario we can essentially role 3 lines +2 in the event a forward goes down and rotate guys in and even that would only be in the event that we are decimated by injuries - keep in mind as well that we're most likely going to go into the season with a full 23 man roster, so we will most likely be carrying 14 forwards and 7 d-men, so there will already be forwards to sub in as needed, plus call-ups that need a real look before their out of options at the forward position... with all that in mind I'd rather carry the element that Janik brings as our 7, than Meech and I see him as a MUCH better compliment to the likes of Ericsson or Kindl as well, which is where that 6/7 dman would be playing...

Very well said and your points are DEAD ON! boom.

Since we're reviving VERY old topics around here and mis-leading people, I figured I'd revive one that's OLD as dust, but still relevant...
-
edit - completely missed the link about the KHL - just assumed the OP was the topic here and he was returning to the Canucks this should have been a new thread, to revive a thread saying he was signed to Vancouver is very mis-leading...
-
Why would it fluctuate from year to year? why would it pay more on the back end? why would they pay that much in the first place? why so much term? why, IF you're going to add so much term, have the contract end at 35 without tacking on a couple "cheap" years to lower the cap hit at the end and avoid the 35+ signing issue? We're being punked, right? I have tried every way to wrap my head around this contract and NONE of it makes sense... :confused1:

really only seems fitting, he did lead them to a cup and was basically the face (ugly as sin, but the face nonethless ) of the franchise since it's EARLY years... good for him and for the franchise for doing the right thing

HORRIBLE over-payment, for that term and that value, that is WAYYYYY too much for Mikko... don't get me wrong, he's a good player, but more in the 4-5 range a year and if you tack on that much term, you could even argue that since the term was taking him up to 35, why not just tack on 2-3 more years at MUCH smaller values and lower the caphit? They could have essentially paid him the 6.75m or so for 4 years, then like 4m for 3 years and then like 2m for 3 years and THAT would at least make the 6.75 in the beginning of the term make sense, but for it to be a consistent value and a total caphit, that's WAY too much...

one hell of a stab in the dark - you nailed it. As for the rest of your points, I agree to some extent, but I think the drop off is going to be more drastic - chemistry is WAY too often discounted and just changing that many PEOPLE in the locker room, let alone quality players can REALLY mess with a team... I still think they'll be a playoff team, but I see them as maybe a 3rd or 4th seed... in OUR division... I think they'll likely be a 6-8th seed/fringe playoff team in the Western conference next year... That's assuming that Sharp isn't dealt... which I still think he will be...

Kevin Smith film - VERY intrigued and will see that as soon as it comes out. This crap-tastic atrocity - well, I think that pretty well sums it up.
