I'm still in absolute disbelief... not only was he the best enforcer in the history of the game, but he was the quintessential power forward in his prime Although he had his issues off the ice, he was one of my biggest childhood icons and always got the arena buzzing when he stepped onto the ice, couple that with a couple of the awe-struck meetings of his as a child and I still can't believe this... he was way too young.......

there is NO way you let Eaves get away under ANY circumstance - it was not a mistake that he was a 20 goal scorer in this league and has tons of hockey sense, not to mention can literally play on any line in any role, has a cannon of a shot and is never afraid to get his nose dirty... he is the EXACT kind of player you need to win and as you said, has instantly become one of my new top favorite Wings and needs to finish his career in the Winged wheel

Link With all the goalies on the market this year, it is not a good year to be a UFA goalie - if ATL was going to offer him a decent deal, he should have just taken it, he might screw himself by waiting for free agency, as ATL could just go sign another one of those UFA's and let him walk and he may not see the same money they would have been willing to give him on the open market...

I'm not sure where you're going with this, haha

All the more reason there should be a luxury tax system in the NHL... I still stand by this proposal
-
I still don't see spending a roster spot on a guy that is nothing more than a pure enforcer... it just doesn't make sense in today's league, because even at 500k or so, you can find a guy that can do more than just fight (just look at May) and to me, spending even 1 million, let alone more, on a guy that will not play 70+ games and will be a healthy scratch many nights(not counting veterans who are on the back end of their deals) is ridiculous... With what's left out there - I still want to see us get one of (in this order): Asham Winchester Boll
-
and then sign Kovalchuk for 10m a year... hey, the cap doesn't apply to Chicago, remember
-
That's definitely a possibility... this has been a SLOW day... I'm really surprised there haven't been more moves on day 2, maybe all the GM's have already left for the long weekend

If he'd been bought out and agreed to come here at 1.5 or less, that would have been HUGE, but there's no way the Oiler's buy him out, that's too much dead money...
-
Both Parros and Godard can skate and forecheck as well and create energy, not just fight... also, Godard didn't play in the playoff's and all three of your examples were cheap signings - You're actually arguing FOR my whole point... it's not a matter of carrying a guy who makes the team tougher - it's about overpaying... For the record, I think Boll, Konopka and Winchester could all be had for less than a million and actually play 70+ games at 7+ minutes a night without being a liabilty. THAT'S the point. dead on.

its fun to play in make believe land - you'd be dis-barred
-
EDM already said they will not buy out Souray, so he's not on our list AT ALL
-
one more off the D list...
-
He really has made some VERY savvy moves and is really shaping that team nicely!
-
Scott is a filler for a min contract, because they just need bodies at this point with the turnover there and he can play both D or forward and fill a role... As for the rest of them, short of Philadelphia (which barely made the playoffs, mind you), what have any of those teams won, or even made the playoffs???? Even going back to last year, looking at teams that overpaid for enforcers (Rangers - AGAIN, Toronto, Minnesota) - what have ANY of those teams won? These types of players are wastes of roster spots and cap space in today's NHL... period. Don't get me wrong, I think it's an important role, but you can get a guy for cheap if he's one dimensional, if not - then he gets PAID Also, there are guys who will fight anyone and do it well, that can still at least play decent D and are fast skaters - Boll, Konopka, Rypien, etc... I'd rather spend on these guys if anything...
-
You really can't discount what LA may do either if they land Kovalchuk...
-
Agreed - as much fun as he is to watch fight, you simply can't waste a roster spot on a one-dimensional goon in today's NHL
-
They got better in all the areas they needed to and already had a good team... I wouldn't say ANY team is the "team to beat" as there are too many variables that can drastically change things, but they are definitely a scarier team to play today, than they were June 30th...
-
max contract...
-
In soviet Russia, language speak you! I would have to imagine that capgeek actually has it right, I don't see Chicago signing anything other than league min contracts at this point
-
If it were 5 years ago, for sure... I think the injuries are catching up to him and unless he was willing to come here for 1m or less(which I doubt he'd do), I'd rather us go a different route...
-
He's Latvian - not Russian, although the language has similarities, it's not the same... He's too one dimensional and even for that tag, he was FAR down on my list of wanted players...
-
wow... look at Stevie go...
