Savard to waive no trade clause

Well, he's locked in until 2017, so he wouldn't be going anywhere... but I don't want him for what it would cost us... Hudler hasn't peaked, Savard has and one could argue is on the downswing with the recent injuries, plus Hudler costs more than a million less... no thanks.

Savard to waive no trade clause

Usually I don't agree with a damn thing you say - but you're dead on, on this one. He would be an instant fan favorite here... I would give up any number of prospects and picks to get Lucic...

    Sharks re-sign Marleau & Pavelski

wow... talk about overpayment for Marleau...

    Bufyglien traded to Thrashers

thank you for clarification - I thought he had played 3 years, not just the 2... I still wouldn't be surprised if someone signed him to an offer sheet... he looked really good in the playoffs and is still very young and improving...

    Bufyglien traded to Thrashers

you mean, no way he ONLY gets $2m, right? He definitely raised his stock and with his age, he could easily file for arbitration and get at LEAST 2.5...

    Bufyglien traded to Thrashers

I agree somewhat, I think Atlanta got some great pieces in return, so they didn't really overpay per se, however, I think they could have kept that 1st or Morin and instead, thrown in a late round pick and still got the deal done and for this reason, I think they were a little hasty...

    Bufyglien traded to Thrashers

You can't just cut a player... he would need to be bought out and 2/3 of his salary would still count against the cap and a roster spot would still need to be filled... they could try to send him to the AHL, but if Crawford gets hurt and they need to call him back up - BOOM, someone claims him for HALF the hit and Chicago is STILL on the hook for the other half... plus, he could just not report to the AHL... your logic is severely flawed... yea, that doesn't really free up much, most they can save is 200k - but they do save the raise he was due... gave him up for pretty cheap though if you ask me...
  8. They sold their future for a cup... that's really what it comes down to, but at the same token, they're stock piling so many picks, that they'll likely be loaded with young talent in 5 years again... probably not a horrible plan in the cap era, however, it's risky and I hope they fall fast and HARD

Armchair GM for the WIngs - Whats your ideal roster?

Fair enough... I'm more in the "Get Boychuk, or just re-sign Lilja" camp, but the "physical d-man" is something that has eluded us for so long, it just goes to show you the leaps we're willing to take to have one... I honestly think our team is considerably better and capable of a long run, just by being healthy, having had an entire year to gel AND having a long off-season, so by that reasoning alone, I think the Wings are a VERY dangerous team, even without changes, but adding that physical d-man and mean 4th liner could really put us over the top, imho

    Bufyglien traded to Thrashers

Yea, lets ignore the fact that Kopecky is still under contract and that you can't just "get rid of" Huet's contract, not to mention that even in this magical world of make believe where this is possible, the team is CONSIDERABLY weaker...

Armchair GM for the WIngs - Whats your ideal roster?

Not only the rules of this thread, but the rules of the NHL too, huh? You can only carry 23 players on a roster... also, Ritola is already signed and not waiver exempt, so you can't cut him out either... if he wants to make the argument of add Boll and O'Donnell, I can accept it (there's others I'd prefer) because at least it's feasible... They were also both playing on horrendous Toronto teams... I don't think anyone here is saying they're good top 2 guys, but for the bottom pairing as a #6 d-man, I think either one of them could be a good addition to our roster... I'm still holding onto some glimmer of hope of getting Boychuk though...

    Bufyglien traded to Thrashers

I think Ponikarovsky thinks he's worth more than he is and could even end up KHL bound if someone in the NHL doesn't give him north of 3mil a year, which I don't think anyone will with the abysmal post-season he had...

    Bufyglien traded to Thrashers

With all due respect (and remember that I said with all due respect) - that is one of the single worst ideas I have ever heard of in the history of hockey... we are all less intelligent for having heard it! haha, ok, that was a little bit of an exaggeration, but seriously, why would they want him? They have Pavelec and Hedberg already that they need to re-sign and both of them are VERY good, YOUNG goalies... if anything, I would think they'd rather roll with these two for a lot less money and with more upside...

    Bufyglien traded to Thrashers

In all seriousness, I can't see them making a run at any high end players, maybe try and re-sign Kozlov and Armstrong and make a run at another mid-end guy like Torres, Stempniak or Lehtinen... that alone would take up another 7-10 million, couple that with rounding out the roster with their RFA's and they'd still probably be 10 million or so below the cap and with a pretty decent roster at that...

17 million?!? WOW! Maybe they can sign that Kovalchuck guy!

Armchair GM for the WIngs - Whats your ideal roster?

hey, like I said, I would LOVE to see him here, so if there is any way possible, I'm all for it... he's in my "perfect" roster scenario too and I'd even up the offer to get him... My perfect roster:(lines are arbitrary) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Todd Bertuzzi ($1.938m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.920m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Brad Winchester ($0.800m) / Darren Helm ($0.630m) / Patrick Eaves ($0.750m) Kris Draper ($1.583m) / Mattias Ritola ($0.517m) Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) / Johnny Boychuk ($1.800m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) / Chris Osgood ($1.417m) ROSTER: 23; CAP:$59.4m; PAYROLL: $59.092m; CAP ROOM: $0.308m BONUSES: $0.000m EDIT - Changed my mind about forward

Armchair GM for the WIngs - Whats your ideal roster?

Just dump McGrattan and put Eaves in his spot, then put Ritola back with the big club as an extra forward (as he is not waiver exempt) and put Janik back in GR... and you're back within the guidelines (and you got a pretty good looking line-up too) You also had too many people on the roster...

Armchair GM for the WIngs - Whats your ideal roster?

I would LOVE to see Boychuck here, but do you really think we have a chance now that Boston moved Wideman? I got to imagine it's almost a certainty they will re-sign him now... I know I said YOUR perfect roster, and it doesn't mean you have to think it's actually a possibility, I was just wondering if you thought we still had any shot at him... you didn't follow the rules... tisk, tisk...

    Zenon Konopka

I don't like the cheapshots and if we're going to get someone for dirt cheap, to play a very limited role, I'd almost rather him be a heavy... with that said, with the inflator, I don't think we need to settle for a discount guy and Winchester, Nystrom and Boll could all be had for likely less than a million, Asham on the other hand, might cost a little more... I don't know, I concede that I went a little over the top putting Ivanans over him, but I still would take McGrattan over him at this point, as I he's a VERY legit heavy and if we're going discount, I'd take that over a guy who is going to likely take stupid penalties at bad times like Konopka is known to do... EDIT - I fixed my initial list

    Brad Winchester

The more I think about it, the higher his stock rises in my mind... right now, the only 2 I would rather see here are Arron Asham and Eric Nystrom and even Nystrom is pretty much even with Winchester at this point... I think he'd be a great addition to the team...
