Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
Shinzaki replied to gcom007's topic in General
Sheahan is 22, Helm is 27, Andersson is 25, Nyquist has played C, he's 24. Glendening is 24. Nestrasil is coming on at GR, he's 23. Janmark was drafted last year and he's further along than most 2013 drafts because he's played in Sweden's elite league and he's 21. Athanasiou has played C before, he's 19. We have young centers in the system. -
Euro twins and Nyquist Kid Line Weiss-Helm-Franzen Miller-Andersson-Abby Glendening, Callahan and Ferraro fight it out for the extra spots I wish Alfie and Legwand good luck with their future endeavors...unless Weiss never recovers, then I probably keep Legwand over Alfie because he's younger and more likely to give me a decent outing on any given night. Alfie's age has caught up to him. On defense...If I can't trade for a top 4 guy that can move the puck, I let Quincey walk and elevate Marchenko to the top 6 and let Lashoff and Kindl fight it out for the 6th spot. If I can get a top 4 guy I let Quincey walk and Marchenko bumps Lashoff. So the D looks like Kronwall-? Ericsson-Dekeyser Marchenko-Smith Kindl

Do not touch the Kid Line....that is one dead solid etched in stone law I would apply to next year's team. Franzen isn't going anywhere...Holland will not sign an RFA...Holland will not sign a FA forward of any kind unless it's retaining Legwand....I have no idea WTH is going on with Weiss, but he isn't a second line center on a roster that includes Datsyuk, Zetteberg, Helm and Sheahan. I don't expect Sammy, Bert or Cleary to be back, but we still have a surplus of forwards if Alfie and Legwand return...

Looks like a retirement party....

I don't think the problem with guys like Bert and Cleary is their desire...they're just done physically. Legwand's lack of effort on Vanek's deflection probably cost us a point against Montreal the other night. You're playing in your home town, the team is fighting for a playoff spot and you don't have a contract for next year and that's the effort you provide? In Holland's defense...He knew what he had in Jarnkrok, he knows what he has in guys like Janmark, Nestrasil (playing C in GR, has 17pts in his last 14 games) and Athanasiou (playing LW this year, can play C) so he might regard our depth at C differently than the fans. -

I was OK with the deal when it was made....But I have to say, for a veteran returning to his hometown in a contract year...Legwand doesn't always have the highest "compete" level. -
I was a third grader when the Blackhawks broomed us 4-0 (each game was 4-2) in 1970. Didn't sniff the playoffs again until 1978. If you would have told me in 1979... when we sucked again...that 35 years later we'd be in the midst of a playoff streak that can legally walk into a bar and order a shot of hard liquor, I would have thought you were nuts

Jurco, Sheahan, Nyquist and Tatar have all been thrown into the mix on the top two lines and all of them have been productive. Throw in Glendening who's really hitting his stride as an Avery type ****** on the checking unit and Kenny and Babs are 5 for 5 in getting production out of the Griffins. That's a stunning development...especially since the consensus last year was that the team lacked prospects first line potential. Now...if we can get similar results out of Oullet, Sproul, Jensen, Backman and Marchenko on defense...the future looks really bright. And that's not even taking Mantha, Pulkinnen, Athanasiou or any of the other young guys in the system into consideration. The injuries forced us into a rebuilding year that may still turn out to be a success. You go ahead and fire Holland and/or Babcock. They'll be unemployed for about five minutes.

I was at the very first game at the Joe...Dec 27, 1979. A loss to the Blues. Truthfully...good riddance. They had to get a waiver on the safety inspection to open the building in the first place because the aisleways and entries were deemed to steep to be safe. I've seen some great college and professional hockey there, but it's a building...the memories aren't in the building they're in my head. Looking forward to seeing what the new place will look like,....even if they are building on my favorite lot for baseball parking

I think Datsyuk is in a "rest and reevaluate" situation. I hope the rest is helping because I don't recall them ruling out surgery as a treatment option. This is the second straight lost year of for Weiss...his injury is perhaps even more costly than Datsyuk and Z's because we expended assets to acquire Legwand. I don't know that we make that trade if Weiss was healthy.

A couple of years ago there was a great deal of concern over our lack of young top 6 forwards. Nyquist is there now and the Kid Line has the potential to be a solid second line. Add Teemu, Mantha and Athanasiou ...not to mention guys like Janmark, Nestrasil, Tverdon, Frk and Nastasiuk and you have an really interesting group.
-
Kindl has been a real disappointment this year....he needs to turn it around because it's not like we don't have a number of options for the third pairing developing in the AHL.
-
Athanasiou has played LW this year at Barrie....seen him play a couple of times online. Great skater
-
I would not touch the Jurco, Sheahan, Tatar line for the next ten years or so. Sheahan has been a huge surprise this year. He has very quick hands around the net, a nasty wrist shot and he's a far better passer than I ever imagined.
-
Who knows...maybe three years or so down the line we'll see Nyquist moved to C to work between Athanasiou and Mantha. Jurco, Sheahan and Tatar on the second line....sweet!!
-
Please don't resign Alfie....he's shot.

It's the LNAH...it's how those crazy bastards roll up there in Quebec. The league has a city with an open air asbestos mine (Thetford Mines) where they used to spread asbestos instead of rock salt when it snowed. If Andre "Poodle" Lussier were a real person, he would have gone up there to play after the unfortunate Denny Pratt tragedy.

4-5 years ago I thought there was a pretty decent chance that we would completely suck by now...that's the usual cycle. You contend for a time and win a cup if you're lucky and eventually you have to rebuild and scrape along the bottom. We aren't in that position because we've been able to ride our superstars and add spare parts here and there and now we're adding kids with top 6 talent and there's more in the pipeline. Make the playoffs and you have a chance. We had the champs on the ropes last year. Win that series and all that stood between us and a shot at the cup....again...was the Kings. There's no discernible gap between us and the Kings. To put it another way...I'll take Ken Holland and the playoffs over Joe Dumars and his perpetual trips into the NBA lottery.

Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

We picked up a solid C and didn't give up our top prospect in GR or Europe or the JR's nor did we give up a #1 this year or any of our picks next year when the raft is supposed to be a much deeper class from what I've read. Hate to see Jarnkrok go, but Nashville wasn't just going to hand us Legwand. The concern I had with Jarnkrok was his size...four years after he's drafted and they're still telling him to get bigger and stronger. Haven't heard that he's anything but a hard worker, so you have to wonder if he has the frame to add the size and strength needed to excel in North America. -

Legwand is a solid two-way center..a proven NHL commodity. The fact that he waived an NTC to come here is an indication that he's open to resigning. Jarnkrok is a prospect...a good, not great, prospect. If you're lucky he becomes a top 6 forward. Be nice to have that 2nd/3rd round pick, but we need a C now, not in 2018. I think we just did Eaves a favor by shipping him out so he can have a better shot at getting signed somewhere next year, so I'm not factoring him into the deal. If Legwand bolts after this season and Jarnkrok adds 20 lbs and becomes a 2nd line C in the next couple of years...I'll look back and curse Kenny Holland for his foolishness. But....I don't think Legwand is leaving, I have no idea if Jarnkrok has the physical and mental capacity to max out his potential (a hot month or so in the AHL doesn't prove anything) and I have no idea who we're missing out on in the draft. Might be Tomas Tatar, might be Jan Mursak...who knows? I value making the playoffs...we were supposed to be four and out last spring but we wound up in the second round and were a bounce of the puck from making the conference finals. Legwand gives us a better shot of making it than Jarnkrok would have this season...and if he signs next season and probably the season after that. So...count me as one of those people who like the deal. -
I concur with those voting in the affirmative

How does Gary Bergman not make anyone's list? He played on Team Canada in the Summit Series for Pete's sake. I'd also take Rick Zombo over Chiasson...

I play co-ed tonsil hockey...there's not a formal league or anything. Sadly, the games have been a bit on the "low scorinng" end of things of late...

Hearing Bruce Martyn...the man who called may have called more lousy hockey games than any broadcaster in history..calling a period of that Stanley Cup clinching win against Philly in 1997.
