I was wondering last night why the hell Downey and Ellis weren't playing over Drake and Kopecky, and it finally looks like Babcock has seen the light. Drake and Kopecky have been useless so far. Also, Franzen needs to center Downey and Ellis, so that Hudler can move up to the 2nd line, because Franzen hasn't been doing anything lately either.

Great win tonight. I would have loved to see a lot more goals though, especially with all of the powerplays. Hopefully this will bring St. Louis back down from that molehill that they thought was a mountain.

I don't like the teal either. The best jerseys they had were the ones they used upon entering the NHL. The worst ones they've ever had are the ones they're using now. I actually like the Huskies logo better than the one they're using now.

Lidstrom is still a top 3 Dman? What are you talking about? He's the best defenseman in the league no doubt about it. He has made some mistakes this year that you don't normally see him make, but he's still the frontrunner for the Norris trophy. When you're the best, that to me screams out A+ any season.

Even when Drake is 100% - Why not Downey full time?

Am I the only one who feels that Holland is just waiting for Downey to do something wrong, so he can put him back on waivers again? Every game that Downey plays, I'm just holding my breath hoping that he doesn't take a bad penalty or make a bad play that would warrant him being scratched. Either I'm right, or not having an enforcer for a long time has made me paranoid about Holland. -
If Downey's not in, then Lilja and D.J. King will square off. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing Drake rip that face shield off and go after his former teammate Tkachuk, but that probably won't happen either.

Wait till all those idiot Canuck fans start voting. Then the voting will be skewed heavily in their favor. This is just the beginning of the process so far.
-
They'd have to get into the playoffs first for that to happen. Then again, if they do make the playoffs, Legace won't have as much pressure on him as he had in Detroit.
-
Right, and maybe we can also trade Howard for Cujo. This way Wings fans can take turns bitching about their favorite scapegoats of the last 15 years. Besides, the Blues have a love affair going with Legace right now, they won't trade him.

Great read. I didn't know that Alfredsson knew so much about our team. Maybe we should sign him as our next Swede.

Datsyuk with an A+ and Hudler with a B+ is too generous if you ask me. Other than that, I don't overly disagree with any of the ratings.

Monday Madden: Pens' old guard needs to step down
GMRwings1983 replied to toby91_ca's topic in General
Yeah, but he was picked 1st overall, and it seems like his progress has actually gotten worse in the last year or so. His rebound control is awful. It is hard for a goalie to succeed at his age, but that was the expectation with him, and he hasn't lived up to it so far. -
He misses the net wide on purpose, because he knows how lively the boards at the JLA are. Now is this player a genius or what?

Monday Madden: Pens' old guard needs to step down

It's fair to say that Andre-Fleury has been a bust so far up to this point in his career. When they drafted him, everyone thought he'd be a star by this point in time. I do expect the team to turn it around, though. It's still early in the season to call them a disappointment. -
Just sit your son down and nicely explain to him that Niedermayer is overrated, and that he bailed on the ducks this season and acted like a complete imbecile. Then tell him that Niedermayer is at best the 2nd best defensemen in the league, and introduce him to Nicklas Lidstrom and all his accomplishments, which are far superior to Niedermayer's. Oh and common sense wise, the ducks jersey looks like crap compared to a Wings jersey, so it shouldn't be hard to make your son switch over to the good side of the force.

Clark, Neely, and Shanny all held their own against the top enforcers, epecially Clark. I see Lucic being more of a top enforcer rather than someone who can match those guys on the scoresheet. As for our system of "team tougness" I've beaten that to death already on these forums, and I won't go into it now. You're right though.

We don't need him, because I expect Lilja to pick up the fighting real soon.
-
That's why he's such a great shooter, because he always hits that logo on the goalie's chest. Who else in the league has that kind of aim?

I would have loved to have this guy a few years ago, but at this point I'm more content with Downey than Fedoruk. He's been hurt too much the last few years to be where he once was as an enforcer.

11/18 GDT: Red Wings 5, Columbus Blue Jackets 4 (SO)

Here's what I thought about the game: 1. We got outplayed and outskated 5 on 5. They had all the sustained pressure, and were able to cycle the puck much more effectively than what we did. We were fortunate to win this game. 2. Downey and Shelley were teasing me all night with a fight, but it never happened. 3. Lilja looks awful out there, and that dumb penalty he took against Zherdev didn't help. Andreas needs to drop the gloves real soon. He's bloodthirsty. 4. Kopecky and Franzen didn't do much out there. I know that Franzen scored in the shootout, but during the whole game he looked lost out there. 5. Osgood didn't play great, but we would have given up about 8 goals if Hasek was in net tonight. Ozzie just gets it done, plain and simple. 6. Our PK unit stinks out there, and we have to do a better job of challenging the point shooters. -
I agree, we need a win right now. If we lose 4 in a row, there will be pandemonium on LGW, although I guess there's pandemonium already.
-
There's more things not going well than what we can fix. Most of our garbage players don't have much trade value. Hasek needs to get his s*** together or be demoted to backup. Franzen looks like he's caught a case of Josh Langfeld Syndrome. Flip, Hudler, and Sammy are playing O.K. lately, so you can't blame them. I'd split our top line up just to see what happens. Likewise, Downey should be inserted in the lineup, because Drake gives us nothing that we don't have, he's 39 years old for crying out loud.
-
They don't need one, because they have Dandenault. Remember the people posting here about a month ago, talking about how we should bring Dandenault back because of his size and grit?
-
Didn't he pick a sick day against Edmonton in that fateful series in 2006 when there was talk that Legace would be pulled?
