Tuesday night the Penguins play the Wild on versus. I hope this means we'll get to see Boogaard and Laraque dance one more time.
-
Last year he started playing better after he dropped the gloves several times. So when is he going to drop the gloves again? How long do I have to keep waiting, dammit?
-
I wish that mattered come playoff time. Let's face it, if shot differential meant winning, then we'd win about 70 games each year. Come playoff time, it's scoring the clutch goals that counts. This statistic doesn't surprise me, and it doesn't impress me anymore either, since it has become common with the Wings. But, it's better than giving up way more shots than you're receiving, so I'll take it.
-
Come on, you know what Wings fans are like. The 1st time he gives up a questionable goal, we're all gonna be asking for his head. We've run Cujo, Osgood, and Legace out of town, and I don't think he's better than any of those guys. As for playing in front of a good team, he had a good team in Colorado, yet he didn't succeed enough to stay there.
-
I'd rather shoot myself in the head than have Aebischer be our starting goalie? What are you thinking?
-
Geez, that description kind of reminds me of Kopecky and Lilja. Who's Downey a nuisance to? If it's the other team, then that's the point. He's certainly not a nuisance to any Wings fan but you.
-
D.J. King last year beat Shelley, Parker, Hordichuk, Shawn Thornton, etc. In fact, he's beaten everyone except for Boogard in their fight last year, where he held his own. Another guy to think about even though he never fights anymore is Chris Simon. I can still see him beating anyone in the league.
-
I can't really say that I ever respected Pronger or Iginla, so I won't even mention them in this discussion. I'm adamant about disrespecting players that fight with visors on. That includes guys like Phaneuf, Tootoo, Perry, etc. That kind of crap doesn't belong in hockey. As for Thornton, he could hold his own against Downey. However, the Sharks don't have an enforcer on their roster, so I don't think that Thornton would play this way against the Ducks or Flyers. That's why we need guys like Downey on this team, and even though Thornton is a star player, I wanted to see Downey challenge him last night, because Thornton is a better fighter than most star players, so it's not like Downey would be accused of spot picking.
-
I like your list, although I'd probably put D.J. King ahead of McGrattan, and would put Godard at number 5. You nailed the top 3, but I still hesitate calling someone a fighter when they fight 5 times a season, and bearhug 4 out of those 5 fights. But, I guess that's the way it is now in the NHL. Oh and yeah, Lilja's not yet in my top 5, but when these other guys stop ducking him, then he'll probably be on this list.

It's been great to see an enforcer in a Wings uniform, even though I wouldn't call Downey a heavyweight. He works hard, he fights when he has to, and he crashes the net offensively (literally). I don't think that he'll be in the lineup, though, when all our injured players come back.
-
Kornheiser and Wilbon can both go to hell, along with anyone else who has anything bad to say about hockey. Up yours espn.
-
I'd like to see Kopecky get sent down, because he gives us nothing that we need. That would also mean that Pavel and Hank will have to be split up, because Kopecky is playing center right now. Drapes would then have to be the 4th line center, which would limit his minutes. I think that Babcock will probably scratch Downey to avoid having to do this. But I hope I'm wrong and that Kopecky gets scratched.

We were great tonight, and I don't want to take anything away from the boys, but the Sharks just never showed up tonight. It looked like they were just figure skating out there. Osgood could have been dead drunk and we still would have won the game. But it was great to see Fillpulla scoring and Sammy looked great out there as well. Hopefully, the 2nd line will play like this from now on.
-
Yeah, especially if he's not facing any shots at all like tonight.
-
Drapes and Maltby in exchange for Lecavalier and St. Louis.
-
So preventing Z from getting his back hurt isn't a big deal? I'd rather lose the game than lose Z. Nobody remembers the outcome of a game in October, but everyone will remember it if some thug like McLaren takes out one of our star players.
-
Agreed. I've never respected Matt Johnson because of that play. Also, maybe it's just me, but I don't ever remember hearing about that Rocket Richard incident. I've heard that he had a violent temper, but never heard anything of this magnitude. I guess in his case, there's other things to remember him for which stand out over that moment.
-
Originally, I was against the idea of splitting them up, but after reading some of the posts about needing 2nd line scoring in the playoffs, I'm beginning to change my mind. Yeah, we're winning right now, and we have the best line in the league with Hank leading the league in scoring, but how's that going to help us in the playoffs? If we play the Ducks, for instance, they'll just put that checking line on us, and we'll be screwed after that 5 on 5. We need to find a way to get Hudler and Fillpulla scoring, somehow. They haven't shown that they can do anything playing together, so maybe they need to be split up.
-
Let me guess, it was probably a 20 second segment during the last 5 minutes of sportscenter. espn and Bettman can both go f*** off. Chara is definitely the 2nd best European fighting defenseman right now behind Lilja. He can hold his own against a top enforcer, but whenever they get the better of him, he always seems to lose his balance and goes down to avoid taking any more damage. I'd love to see him fight more often, but that's not what the Bruins had in mind when they offered him that huge contract.

OFFICIAL: Draper signs 3-year $4.75M extension
GMRwings1983 replied to MacK_Attack's topic in General
This is a good signing. I didn't want to see Drapes finish his career anywhere else, like we saw McCarty do. Even though he hasn't played his whole career in Detroit, to me it always feels like he's been a Wing his whole career. Him and Maltby both. -
So that we don't get pushed around by every team in the league.
-
Why not? Cam Neely made it in. Lindros just like Neely was dominant for a number of years, but don't forget that Lindros wasn't just a top player, but at one time was the best player in the league. Cam Neely was never the best player in the league. Likewise, Lindros has a Canada Cup and a gold medal in his favor. His point per game numbers are better than many players who aren't in the HOF. That is why I didn't want Neely to make it in the HOF, because that opened a pandora's box for other guys who were great for a while, but had their careers end early. Personally, I don't think either guy should be in the Hall, but if Neely is in, then I believe Lindros has an even better argument.

Hudler's nothing without the great Robert Lang centering him.
-
If Naslund's a bum, then where does that put Hudler, Fillpulla, and Kopecky?
-
The people from Tennessee that voted were probably trying to get to espn's NASCAR site, and accidentally ended up on espn's NHL site. I bet they're just now finding out that they have a hockey team.
