Theodore? Isn't he too busy clubbing with Paris Hilton?
-
The divealanche will be better this year. How far they go depends on how well Budaj will play for them.
-
Yeah, that isn't the linesman's hand, because linesman don't wear red. As for Perry, he's a gutless puke just like every other player in the league that fights while wearing a visor. Why doesn't he just wear a cage on his helmet next time like they wear in college?
-
I'd still rather see Fillpulla on the 1st line instead of Franzen. That line was pretty good against Anaheim last year as soon as Babcock put them together.
-
I disagree with anyone who says Bertuzzi was lucky. He's been healthy and great so far for the Ducks the first 3 games. I hope he doesn't make us regret that we didn't resign him.
-
I'm glad we got the 2 points, and now that the game is over I can sit down and write what I thought about the game. 1. Hank and Pavel were amazing, and it'll be hard for Babcock to resist not putting them together. 2. Sammy and Hudler didn't do much 5 on 5. They're gonna have to instead of sitting around and watching Hank do all the work on that line. We need their contribution. 3. Once again, too many empty seats at the Joe. It's opening night for crying out loud. What the hell else is there to do? 4. Perry is the biggest ****** in the NHL for fighting a 39 year old man and being afraid to take off his visor. I would have punched him in his adam's apple since it's the only area he's leaving unexposed. What a s***bag. 5. Lilja is lazy and he sucks. 6. Bertuzzi did more for them in this game then he did for us in the entire playoffs last year. It'll be interesting to see if he can keep it up at this rate. 7. Mowers is much funner to watch when he's playing for the other team. 8. Rafalski definitely gives us a weapon we haven't had for while from the point because of his right-handed shot, but I'd still rather see Lidstrom take most of the shots.

I love Datsyuk, but I would also make that trade like so many other posters have suggested. We'd finally have a young goalie that could be here for a long time, and we all know that goaltending is the most important thing in hockey. I think Florida would have been much more willing to make that trade than what they wound up doing by trading for Bertuzzi. I still can't believe that the Panthers traded Luongo for Bert.

It looks great, especially with all the night's games at the top of the page.
-
I also have to go with Doug Gilmour.
-
They can't be any worse then they've been the last few years. You never know, maybe they'll develop some team chemistry with these jobbers and overachieve a little. However, I don't see Gretzky as the kind of coach that can bring this group together. Well, at least no one can say they'll underachieve anymore.

I think that Nick's numbers could go down as they did when he was paired with Schneider. You'd think that if Nick is paired with a defensive defenseman, teams will key in on him more, but that hasn't been the case. Last year he put up big numbers in the playoffs even though he was paired with a defensive defenseman in Markov. Likewise, Nick had what I believe was his best year offensively 2 years ago when he was paired with Lilja. Personally, I wouldn't put Lidstrom and Rafalski together, but we'll see how it pans out.

Downey will fight anybody, but I don't think that he'll have success against the bigger guys like Parros. As for Lilja continuing to fight, he has to do it. We've named him "the pain train" and he has to live up to that label.
-
Are you kidding? Not after the beating that Lilja's helmet gave to Gauthier's fists last year.
-
That's funny. I always thought that he was a forward to begin with. Are you guys telling me that he's been playing defense all these years? Unbelievable!
-
I'm glad as hell that Downey made it, but why isn't he dressed for Wednesday's game? You know the Ducks will have at least 2 enforcers in the lineup.
-
As someone said earlier, Melrose has hated the Wings for a long time, and I don't know if that is because we're a mostly European team, or because he has some grudge towards the organization stemming from his days here. Also, how can anyone who considers themselves a hockey expert work for espn, which is a network that despises hockey?
-
I never expected him to make this team from the beginning. Holland knows how to keep a good team together, but he doesn't know s*** about the topic of enforcers and their usefulness in a lineup. I don't see why we can't succeed as a team and still have a tough guy in the lineup? All in all, I don't think we'll have an enforcer on this team as long as Holland is around.
-
I liked him when he was here, but we don't need another defenseman on this team. I know he can also play wing, but he's not what we need at wing right now either. As I've said before, we need either a top 6 winger or an enforcer.
-
I hate Pronger, but with Selanne and Niedermayer not around, who else were they going to name captain? He's their best player and he's been a captain before, although unsuccessfully. There's less deserving captains around the league than Pronger.

This roster was actually a lot tougher in 2004. The reason we lost that year in the playoffs was because Yzerman and Chelios were hurt, and we had too many guys disappear for us when we needed them. I just don't understand how some of you think that we're a gritty team all of a sudden. We beat Calgary last year because they couldn't score or play on the road, and we beat San Jose because of the great Robert La....I mean because their top players disappeared, with the exception of Thornton. I don't think that we advanced through those 2 rounds because we suddenly became a tough, gritty team. Likewise, I don't think the rest of the NHL is going to take the playoffs last year as proof of us being tough or gritty. The Wings are still known around the league as a soft team, and as I said in my last post, there's very few people, some of which are on this forum, that believe otherwise.
-
How are we a gritty, grind it out type of team? Other than Holland, Babcock, and a few anti-fighting fans on this board, no one else who follows hockey beleives that statement. We're the smallest, softest team in the league, and our players don't do anything when the other team resorts to bully tactics. Everyone in the league knows that. Yes, we won 2 playoff rounds last year, but it's amazing how quickly many of you forget that we struggled in the playoffs the past few years before that. And if god forbid we get eliminated in the 1st round of the playoffs this year, once again the anti-fighting posters will find something else to blame besides the lack of tougness, such as goaltending or coaching. It's great to support your team, but how can so many of you turn away from the obvious fact that we're not a gritty team, and say the exact opposite?
-
Buccigross is a retard, but he's right on this one. Even though from a fan's perspective it's hard to see my team as boring, I don't doubt for a minute that that is the way other people look at the Wings.
-
Do you even know the name of the college Selanne went to? If you do, then you should be the one writing these quizzes.
-
Maybe I'm suffering from amnesia, but I don't rememeber Bertuzzi ever playing for the Red Wings. All jokes aside, I'm glad we didn't resign him. He's not half the player he used to be, and I don't expect him to stay healthy this year in Anaheim either. We don't need damaged goods on this team, especially from a player who's never been known as a character guy.
-
I gotta go with Datsyuk.
