slava voynov suspended after domestic violence arrest
GMRwings1983 replied to jimmyemeryhunter's topic in General
Without video evidence, there won't be public outcry to the same extent as Ray Rice. Rice punched his girlfriend once. If Voynov did what he's accused of, and there was video of it, he'd make Rice look like a choir boy. -
Brodeur is a product of the trap and an era where goalies are dominating. He played behind a defense that didn't give up a lot of shots and had two Hall of Famers during their Cup runs. I personally don't rank him in the top 2. I've flip-flopped on Hasek and Roy before, but I can't put Brodeur there. I know he's had the most longevity and has so many records. But I'd take either of those goalies careers over him. Roy has the Conn Smythes and Hasek has that peak everyone talks about. Those guys would have had even better numbers if their careers started at the same time as Brodeur's.

I think the 2008 playoffs is when Hasek was most criticized. Of course, it ended with him getting benched. I wasn't here in 2002 (did the internet even work back then?), so I don't know what was being posted late in the year and during the first games against Vancouver. Guessing that was bad too.

Howard looked like Manny Legace there.
-
What does his all time ranking have to do with his Detroit days?
-
I read hfboards a lot (the history section), and he's ranked number 1 by many posters there. I consider many of them to be experts based on their hockey knowledge. I wish I had some of their hockey knowledge.
-
No comment. That's surprising, though. A lot of experts do rank him number one all time. He did have longevity, technically, since he played for so long. It may not have always been in the NHL, which does get counted as a knock against him. But still, a lot of people rank him first.
-
His tenure in Buffalo was the highest peak any goalie ever reached. The 1998 Gold Medal and 1999 Finals run was the pinnacle of that, although some would argue it was the Hart trophies. Truthfully, he could have won the Hart trophy every year during that stretch.

I kind of miss Cleary. He makes things entertaining out there. Wouldn't mind seeing him on the top line while Franzen is out. The man scored 50 goals in juniors.

Lucic has a meltdown as Bruins get smacked by Habs...again

I blinked and missed his time there. Reminded me of Brad Norton's tenure for the Wings. -

Montreal wouldn't sign an enforcer even if they played in the LNAH. It's just their team philosophy for the last God knows how many years. If Montreal fans are comfortable with seeing their players get beat up in brawls against Boston, Ottawa and Toronto (all of which happened in the last 2 years), then to each their own. I know they've lost to those teams in the playoffs before, because they couldn't handle those teams' toughness. Montreal is currently better than at least Toronto and Ottawa, but until they win something, their duck and cover attitude isn't impressing me. -

But getting their asses punked out can't be fun, can it? You can win games and not take crap from anyone. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Besides, the Habs aren't exactly winning Cups every year. They need to get tougher mentally and physically. So yes, something does need to change in Montreal. Nice try, though, making them sound like a team that makes the Finals every year. -

Dan Rosen Pens a Great Piece on Babcock's Coaching Tree
GMRwings1983 replied to Dabura's topic in General
Babcock is a great coach, but do the players in Detroit still listen to his message? We see players all the time in all sports eventually tuning out when a coaches message gets stale. -
Surprise, surprise. Two of our top four forwards are out with injuries. Who could have predicted this?

Montreal should trade for a McGrattan and sign McIntyre. They should play those guys against Lucic each time he's on the ice. Might not win them the game, but would send Quasimodo a good message. Send a message to Boston too. Unfortunately, Montreal's GM has slightly more balls than Holland, and never does anything of the sort. If I was a Habs fan, I'd be tired of my team taking physical abuse from Boston and Lucic all the time. -
gdt 10/18 GDT - Maple Leafs 0 at Red Wings 1 (OT)
GMRwings1983 replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in General
I would think getting a fanbase would be difficult, because of the Leafs' popularity. Yes, the 2nd team could sell tickets because it's hockey and it's the NHL, but that team would always be second fiddle. -

Seems like Leafs fans are only loud when they're on the road. At home, they're quiet as mice. They know their teams sucks, but want to tell people on the road how great they are. Pathetic. He played on the same line as Helm and Nestrasil. Not making excuses, but just saying that we shouldn't expect him to produce unless he plays with skilled players. -
I am serious. If we tear down every stadium after only 30 years of existence, then we won't have any more Boston Garden, and Montreal Forum type places. You can't create historic stadiums if you only keep them around a few decades. The JLA would have history if it was allowed to stand.
-
I was never a fan of signing another small, left handed forward in his 30's, coming off an injury to boot. He should get more of a shot, only because our current forward crop is garbage.
-
I hate how little respect they have in this country for stadiums and history. Maybe it's because the country hasn't been around for as long as others. A few years ago, Yankee Stadium was demolished. Boston Garden was demolished in the 90's. How can you get rid of those stadiums and all the history associated with that? In Europe, the most famous soccer stadiums have been around over 50 years. Some stadiums in England have been around over 100 years. Yes, those stadiums undergo massive renovations and look nothing like they did 50 years ago, but at least they're still there. When people go to those games, they can say they're in the same stadium so and so used to play at. I know things are done differently here, but I'm not a fan of tearing the JLA down.

He's old and has linemates Brian McGrattan wouldn't want to play with. -

The way Babcock and Holland run the ship, I'm not surprised at anything. -

Fair enough. But he's got to be better. As I stated, shootouts are a big part of the NHL playoff picture for the lower seeded teams. -

I didn't watch the preseason. Did he look better than the garbage we saw last season?
