Jonas Gustavsson - Monsters Hall of Fame new mask
GMRwings1983 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I actually liked Osgood and Hasek's masks, because they were so simple. Sometimes, the simpler and plainer a design is, the more power it has. How many Osgood like masks will we see again? -
Jonas Gustavsson - Monsters Hall of Fame new mask

I thought the same thing. -
I always heard he got makeup to show all the stitches and cuts he sustained throughout his career.

One of the best Seinfeld episodes. The Canucks should do some kind of Marine Biologist theme (they have a whale on their logo). Not sure if Canadians watch Seinfeld, though.

He probably likes skating with one of the worst defensive corps in the league, to make himself feel better and faster.

The only real playoff success the Wings had since 2009 was when Howard had his only good playoffs, two years ago. When he's been, pardon the word "average", this team has been nothing special in the playoffs. We don't have enough firepower or talent to succeed without a hot goalie. I hope he steps up this season.

Average mask. I would have had Robocop and Axel Foley on it. Maybe a picture of Yzerman and Grimson too.

Expansion draft - how many players can each team protect ?
GMRwings1983 replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
If the NHL expands to 2-4, teams, you should worry about the league having another lockout..............not which players we can protect. -
How about not having any line that has more than one soft Euro on it? Can someone come up with such a combination?

Fedorov and Yzerman vs. Datsyuk and Zetterberg
GMRwings1983 replied to DickieDunn's topic in General
If Red Kelly's jersey isn't up there, I don't know why Datsyuk's or Zetterberg's would be. Yeah, Kelly left on bad terms, but he's ranked higher all time among all time Red Wings greats. -
Wayne Newton should be the owner.

Fedorov and Yzerman vs. Datsyuk and Zetterberg
GMRwings1983 replied to DickieDunn's topic in General
Or how offensively challenged the Ducks were when Sergei got there. That roster wasn't exactly beaming with offensive stars. He led that 2004 team in scoring. And I don't even need to mention the Blue Jackets. He was too old by that point to carry a team. People will also say he wasn't hungry, but that's hard to measure. -
Fedorov and Yzerman vs. Datsyuk and Zetterberg

Doug Brown was a better offensive player than Abdelkader. Abdelkader may singlehandedly force Datsyuk to join the KHL. -
Fedorov and Yzerman vs. Datsyuk and Zetterberg

I was talking about his prime as in mid to late 90's. I know the numbers dropped off after he left Detroit. -
Fedorov and Yzerman vs. Datsyuk and Zetterberg
GMRwings1983 replied to DickieDunn's topic in General
This topic is kind of weird. I've never thought of Yzerman and Fedorov as a duo. Yzerman was already a star before Fedorov ever got to Detroit. They're not the same age. They didn't really play on the same line that often in their careers. They're just two great individual players who happened to play on the same team for over a decade. On the other hand, Datsyuk and Zetterberg came into the league around the same time, are about the same age, both Europeans and have played together on the same line many times. I think of them as a duo more than Yzerman and Fedorov. Also, I'd like to add that the Wings' scoring was pretty balanced during the 90's. If Fedorov was playing on a different team in his prime, I'm pretty confident he'd finish top 10 in scoring every year. Likely even higher than top 10. Yeah, but Fedorov frequently played with Doug Brown, and Yzerman played with McCarty some from what I remember in 1997. They didn't play on the same line during the Cup runs until 2002. The difference is, those guys always played with good players. Datsyuk and Zetterberg used to play with good players, but don't anymore at this stage in their careers. That's sad. -
2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades

Yeah, because everyone wants a scrub who's scored 19 points in his last 136 games. -
2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades

Derek Morris? I still can't believe that jobber was traded for Chris Drury. Beginning of the end for the Avalanche. -
Best two-way player. Outside of this forum, not many people have said he's a better player than Crosby or Malkin, or should be rated higher. Seems like people now think Tayes is the best two-way player in the game.
-
Malkin is definitely going to be rated higher. A lot more important trophies and postseason All Star teams than Datsyuk. In 2009, he had arguably the greatest playoff any forward not named Gretzky or Lemieux has ever had. Stamkos and Toews at their current rate will be rated ahead of Datsyuk. Once again, more individual offensive trophies (sorry Selke) and postseason All Star teams. St. Louis has a Hart trophy, and has been a tremendous player ever since he left Calgary. He and Datsyuk could be rated similarly when it's all said and done with.

As I said a few posts higher, how many players in the future will hit 1,000 points? Not even close to what it was in the past. That makes it sound like other than Crosby or Ovechkin, nobody will make the HOF in 10 or 15 years. The criteria will have to change with the times. Unless they do the ceremony every year with only one or two players getting inducted with each class. This is also the reason I think guys like Andreychuk and Cicarrelli will eventually get in, because there won't be as many huge numbers guys to choose from that aren't already in. When guys like Andreychuk get picked, then the Datsyuks of the world will start getting selected. I don't think Pavel will be a first ballot selection, but I do think he'll get in eventually. Some guys get in when they're like 60.

After Bobby Orr and Red Kelly, Fedorov is probably the most complete player in history.

Here's a good, long thread from HFboards back in 2012, talking about Datsyuk's HOF status. http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=1121269 I think he gets in. If 1,000 points is the criteria, there won't be many guys making the HOF after Crosby, Ovechkin and Malkin retire. How many 1,000 point players do you think the future generations will produce? Not much I think. Doesn't mean there won't be guys making the Hall of Fame anymore.

Jumbo Joke will go down in history as a great player and a Hall of Famer, but a guy that never got to the Finals in his prime. He might get to one in his later years, riding some other team's coattails. Tough to say whether that's his fault or the supporting cast. Likely his, because he hasn't exactly gone down swinging in the series where his team gets eliminated (usually the 2nd round) You never know. Marleau has played well since he's been stripped of the captaincy. Maybe it'll work out (in the regular season). Trading a star player for a pesty clown? What is Marchand's offensive upside? There has to be more in that trade.

Signed Holland signs 4 year extension with wings **MOD Warning Post 130**

Except Holland is on that list from past performance, not for anything he's done the last 5 years. -
