  1. The Rangers win was surprising as the Wings hardly ever win in New York. However, they're not a good team. It's hard to tank when the other team isn't trying to win either. Tampa has been a contender longer than Detroit was before winning their first Cup in the 1990's. The Wings were a contender in 1994, 1995, and 1996. Tampa made the Finals four years ago. Even 8 or 9 years ago they were a contender. They're the San Hosay of the Eastern Conference. Thankfully, Detroit didn't have to put up with the choker label for that long. I actually don't think they'll win the Cup. I don't trust Vasilevskiy in the playoffs. Like other Russian goalies, he seems to choke in the biggest moments. In fairness, Tampa did win a Cup with Khabibulin, but that was the only time I remember a Russian goalie having a good playoff. However, Nabokov, Bryzgalov, and Bobrovsky have ruined it for the others after that. Even Vasilevskiy was shaky in the Washington series last year and gave up a back breaker to Ovechkin at the beginning of that game 7. That goal took the air out of the building.
  2. It's hard to lose every game, but that win against the Islanders may come back to hurt Detroit. Also, I wonder if Tampa will rest some players or chase team records. I can't remember the last time a team had 21 more points than any other team in the league at this stage of the season. They're also in line to finish with the most points and wins in league history. Asterisk of course because of overtimes and shootouts, but still impressive.
  3. Bernier might be the worst goalie in the entire league. Kenny sure knows his netminders well.
  4. It breaks my heart to see Lashoff wearing Grimson's old number 32.
  5. Why is Mantha killing penalties? He's not exactly a future Selke candidate.

    Well, that's the complaint.

    Blashill expected back next season...

In today's sports world, missing the playoffs three years in a row should result in automatic termination. This franchise has no accountability anymore. His line combos and obsession with some of the grunts on this team is annoying. You'll get your wish in 2022.

Holland is just trolling the fanbase with this "playoff" incentive. He knows this team isn't making the playoffs with Howard and Blashill coming back. They'll be lucky to acquire any of the players you listed.

You could say the same about the Wings drafting Lidstrom in the 3rd round, Datsyuk in the 6th round and Zetterberg in the 7th. Detroit passed up on those guys many times before drafting them. Detroit's scouts have always been lauded for seeing something in those guys to eventually give the GM a reason to pick them. Likewise, you have to give Tampa and Yzerman some credit for making good choices. It's not just happenstance. They also drafted Palat in the 7th round of that draft and he's a pretty good player. Brayden Point was a 3rd round pick in another draft. You also have to give the Wings scouts some grief for drafting players in that same draft as Kucherov and Palat, which all turned into melted butter. We probably would not have drafted Vasilevskiy in his draft year, because the Wings haven't drafted a top notch goalie since Osgood. Holland wouldn't know a good goalie if one sat on his face.

Screw that. We got a few good years out of Quincey. And he was on that HBO special. Vasilevsky is just some commie with a bad haircut.

I miss the days when we had Terry Sawchuk and Glenn Hall. Thanks Kenny. I heard Giguere wants to make a comeback. Give him his old pads back and we're making the playoffs next season.

Isn't Larsson still playing in college hockey? We may be stuck with Howard and his backup for a while. Any chance we can convince Hasek to make a fourth stint with the team?

It's a good deal for only one season. I just don't understand how you can go 10 years without finding any real depth at this position in today's NHL. What is this organization's plan next offseason? Do they have a goalie in the system who's ready to start in 2021?

I miss the days when this team would change goalies every two years. Now we get stuck with Mr. Average just because we haven't developed anyone else for the last 10 years. Mrazek showed some promise but look how that turned out. And don't tell me we needed a top 5 pick all these years to find a decent starter. Other teams are developing goalies out of their asses.

Let's play "YOU are are league disciplinarian"

I don't think he was trying to kill the guy. It was just very careless considering the surface of play. Actually, dropping someone on their head is dangerous even in judo. He was likely trying to throw him on his back and screwed up. This was in the French league. I don't know what their rules are for hockey fights and whether these players even know the normal protocol when there is a hockey fight.

No. Just fire him and let's have a real fresh start while we're at it. "Some bad contracts" is an understatement. About 1/3 of their regular lineup are on bad contracts.

The only thing being overblown is Holland. By you. Giving out bad contracts to five or six players is bad for any team.

They're not. They're wonderful contracts. Let's give more players with similar talent levels (or lack thereof) similar contracts in the future. That's a great plan for rebuilding right there. The young guys will love sitting on the bench or in the minors while Ericsson and Abdelkader types are logging icetime trying to earn their wonderful paychecks. We need more Michigan guys as well. Not enough of those around. Nothing better for player development than to learn from veterans that aren't very good. Also, if we get higher draft picks in the future, we can draft a generational type player, and then we could just put a scrub like Abdelkader on his wing, and we'd be fine in the future (that is, until that Abdelkader type's contract ran out in 5 years). Just ask Edmonton fans how that's turning out for them.

Yeah, let's be more like the Oilers. Do people around the NHL still think Holland is one of the best GM's in the league? If so, what are they basing that on in recent memory? Correct me if I'm wrong, but Chiarelli made some good moves in Boston that led to a Stanley Cup and two Finals appearances. Every dog has his day.

Stop making excuses for Holland. The money he wasted on the Ericssons and Abdelkaders could have been spent on more deserving players for that kind of salary (doesn't have to be Stamkos or Tavares). Those players could in turn make this team more competitive and be part of this team's future. You really want Abdelkader, Ericcson or Nielsen as part of this team's future? Why are you giving Holland a pass for these contracts? Detroit had three picks in the second round in 2011, right before Tampa drafted Kucherov. So they did not have limited picks. They just didn't scout very well and wasted their picks on crap. He's stockpiling picks now because he doesn't have a choice. This team is bad. It doesn't make sense for them to be a buyer. They have to be a seller. They don't have enough salary cap space to be a buyer anyway. That wasn't a choice as much as the outcome of several years of poor drafting, poor contracts, and yes the retirement of Datsyuk and now Zetterberg that was foreseen. Holland is not some tragic figure here. He made his own bed. Don't make excuses for him. Yes, he's trying hard now to fix his mistakes. IMO it's time for him to leave and let someone else fix those mistakes. In the Ilitch pizza family, they're not of that opinion. They're of the opinion that Holland has immunity.

No. We're mad at him because he overpaid undeserving players on our current roster. We're mad that he hasn't replaced the current head coach. We're mad they haven't drafted well as a whole (in whatever round). He's not taking a different approach. They're not trying to tank on purpose like the LA Kings. They're actually this bad because their roster stinks. Them losing is inevitable.

Well, he's largely responsible for it. No one else shoulders more blame.
  24. It is crazy. Sometimes, Nashville puts five right handed shots on their powerplay and I can't believe my eyes. Winnipeg has a bunch of right handed shots also.

What's he doing now? Are you saying Holland is trying to tank for higher picks?
