Report: NHL to have 5 outdoor games in 2014-15.
GMRwings1983 replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
Why not 12 outdoor games? -
-
I'm glad he's staying, but he's not really an enforcer, especially against the bigger guys.
-
Them and like 5 other teams.
-
It'd be even better if he suited up for the actual game.

Devils sign Brunner 2 yrs. $2.5 million AAV
GMRwings1983 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Didn't we sign Miller this offseason? As for Samuelsson, his situation, much like Cleary's is entirely Holland's fault. Poor decision making from the GM has resulted in unnecessary players clogging the roster, while a good young player with a great shot, like Brunner, is now gone. -

I'd rather have him than Cleary, Eaves/Miller and Samuelsson combined. Instead of spending cap space money on those useless plugs, we could have a good right handed shooter with some level of upside. He did act greedy, but the Wings should have realized he adds more to the team than those guys. -
Oilers Headcoach Dallas Eakins removing past pictures

How dare he take Ryan Smyth's picture off the wall? -
His numbers last year weren't that good, considering he got significant 1st line minutes, especially in the playoffs. If he plays on the top two lines again, it's a further indication that we need a "real" top 6 winger who can score. Because a great center like Datsyuk should be playing with a good winger, not an Abdelkader. Even Crosby couldn't make Abdelkader score 50 points.
-
Glad you got the joke.
-
BTW, unless your name is Jimmy Howard, I don't know how any of us can actually "tank" Red Wings games.
-
OK, fair enough. But why sign a guy we don't need and add unnecessary cap space? I for one will not eat crow until Daniel Cleary wins the Conn Smythe trophy.
-
I will tank even if we're in the SCF and up 3-0.

Feels like everytime the Wings have a chance to get younger, they take steps back. I don't mind the Alfredsson signing, despite his age, but keeping Cleary, Bertuzzi and Samuelsson is a continuation of the previous era, where guys were kept longer than they should have. Our best players are veterans, so it's not like there's a danger of cutting bait with the above mentioned vets. I just hate to see cap space being wasted on an injured Bertuzzi/Samuelsson for another season.

Next Stage of Prospects: Who Makes the Cut?
GMRwings1983 replied to Son of a Wing's topic in General
What sucks is that most of those players could and should have come off the books this offseason. I'd like to see Sproul get some time soon. We could use a big shot from the point. -
Signed Cleary re-signs with Detroit, 1 year, $1.75m deal
GMRwings1983 replied to wingedominance13's topic in General
I agree. I'd rather pay Brunner his money, than sign both Cleary and Miller (two guys we don't really need), on top of probably keeping Samuelsson. Mismanagement of resources by Holland. -
Why would anyone want to trade for those players? Those types of guys are available in every team's farm system, or in free agency. Not saying it might not happen, but it seems pointless for anyone to trade for an Eaves. Also, if waiving Sammy was easy, why didn't they already do it? If they're signing Cleary just to have depth and make him a healthy scratch all season, it's a different story, but with Babcock's man love for Cleary, I have a hard time seeing that. Whether we're cap compliant isn't what I'm worried about. It's the idea that once again an old fogey is taking attention and icetime away from younger players who may or may not be the future of this team. We know Cleary isn't.
-
I don't see this Cleary move not affecting Tatar and other young players. It's just handcuffing your own team by adding one more forward you don't need. I'd rather see us pay half that money for a goon, who can at least be a healthy scratch that plays on occasional nights. You know Babcock is going to have Cleary in the lineup every game, unless he's hurt.

We "Now" like our team!

Holland should be hired as the new GM for Mexico's soccer team. He's not needed in Detroit anymore. To answer the OP's question, someone is getting screwed for Cleary. Either Nyquist is sent to GR, or Tatar will be traded / goes to Europe.
-
He can go overripe in the minors, even though he's better than Cleary, Bertuzzi or Samuelsson. Can we trade Holland too, for a GM that's relevant in the year 2013, like Lombardi or Chiarelli? I'm guessing no.

Holland can eat s**t for making this move. As if having Bertuzzi and Sammy isn't enough, now we have another old, useless player holding back young guys from significant playing time. We could lose Tatar over this, or maybe Nyquist gets sent to the minors, even though he's ready to be a regular player. I wish Ilitch wasn't so disinterested in this team nowadays. -
Report: Cleary to sign with PHI, 3 yrs, $2.75m/yr, NTC
GMRwings1983 replied to Jedi's topic in General
Why didn't Datsyuk, Franzen or Filppula score those dirty goals and cheap points that Cleary was putting up? Guy went to the scoring areas and was rewarded, while those guys were prancing around. Maybe we could have beaten Chicago if they played as hard as Cleary. -
I hate them also. They dive and I don't like their faces. Why does hate have to be rational?

What if he takes them to the Finals like Leino did?
