Ericsson did have a good season, but he still shouldn't be a top pairing defenseman and Filppula shouldn't be a top line center. It's just the way it ends up sometimes when a team doesn't have the proper personnel to play those roles. Plenty of hair gel and tanning lotion. Also, get ready to pass a lot of pucks to Stamkos for one-timers. Should be more fun than passing it to Cleary and watching him fall down.

Well, he didn't pursue Ryan because of his subpar playoffs, so now Holland is pursuing Cleary because of his "remarkable" playoffs. Holland needs to trade himself for Steve Yzerman. Let's move on already. Can you imagine what his skating will be like in 3 years?

Yeah, not all fighters and tough guys are offensively challenged. I got a crack out of people suggesting Tootoo can't score, when he put up the same numbers our other 4th liners do. As for the pure heavies, no they're not there to score. But it's always been that way in NHL history. Your 4th line shouldn't be relied on to score many goals in the playoffs anyway. I don't think all these GM's are idiots for always having tough guys, while Holland is a genius for not having any. So Boston is stupid for dressing him then? Same with Anaheim? I don't think they're complaining about Thornton, since he's played on the 4th line in those long playoff runs, and hardly hurt the team. Are we winning that many games the last few years?

Meh. I'd take Lecavalier over Weiss, even if Weiss is better than Flip. Tatar and Brunner were both Wings last year. If not for idiotic coaching and GM work, Tatar would have been a regular in the playoffs, instead of being unable to get called up. If we don't resign Brunner, that's a big loss. We lack right handed shots in the long haul (Alfie isn't the long haul). Sucks if we can't have both Tatar and Brunner. Helm is a big addition, providing, he can stay healthy.

Prust has been a regular player the last few years in New York and Montreal. Regular season and playoffs. Why do Wings fans think every fighter automatically sits in the press box in the playoffs? Amazing how Holland has pussified this team and polluted fans' minds about toughness and grit.

Is he overrated? He had a good first season here. Better than anyone could have expected. I guess whether he's "overrated" will depend on how much money he gets from another team and how he performs in the future. It's too early to judge his potential right now, even though he's not exactly a 20 year old.

Why is that any funnier than Ericsson being a top pairing defenseman? On a team that lacks depth at that position, it's not inconceivable that he might play center at some point. I've criticized the guy a lot, but can you blame him for wanting to change scenery (Florida is nice) and taking more money? Potentially, more playing time as well. Not to mention, the fanbase there won't be as harsh.

Yeah, I'd like to see us get bigger and tougher to play against. That's how I've felt for the last 10 years, though. This year more than ever, we'll see how important it is to have toughness and how these teams play against us. I'd rather overpay for good players than pay for crap we don't need, like Samuelsson or Williams. He overpaid for Quincey (a trade, but still overpayment), and signed Tootoo for no apparent reason. We didn't really need Carlo Coca Cola either, now that he's gone after a few games. You think we're one of the Cup favorites? I don't see it. We can make a playoff run, but I don't think we have enough talent or grit in the end.

Just for the record, had we signed Parros today on top of these other moves, I'd have been fully content with everything Holland did, and would have written him a heartfelt personal thank you note.

No, but apparently he was available this time around. Just butthurt that some GM's can fleece others with trades, while ours got fleeced with the last big trade we made.

You're right. I'm sorry about that. I posted that in the wrong thread. It was intended for the Filppula thread. As for Brunner, I've stated my intentions that I'd want him to stay. We can't afford to let a good, right handed winger slip away when we don't develop enough of them anyway.

You think they'd pay him 5 million and not play him on the powerplay with their best players? Especially since they're severely lacking in forward talent right now.

Do they have a top line center right now? Besides, there's things called injuries and powerplays. He'll get some time with those players this season. It'll be relief, after playing with dead weight like Cleary, Bertuzzi, Hudler and Franzen over the years. And yes, Filppula was often the problem on those lines as well.

He scored 4 points in that 7 game series. Perry was the one who really sucked. Those numbers aren't bad, especially when you consider how our stars didn't show up against Chicago. Bit of an overreaction by Holland.

I'm sure Filppula is heartbroken at getting to play with real scorers like St. Louis and Stamkos.
