I notice the incredibly underwhelming season he's had this year. Kindl and Lashoff have both outplayed him, and neither was supposed to even play that much this year. -

Smith and Quincey again. Thank God Fernando ....I mean Raffi Torres didn't score there. -

Time to bench Brendan Smith again. Unlike Tatar, this fool needs to overripe for some time. -

My two favorite players combine for a goal! Now it's time for Cleary to bury a breakaway. -

Also doesn't help that the crowd atmosphere sucks at the JLA. As I've said a million times, reminds me of the echoing sound you hear at an indoor swimming pool. -

Wings are tired from playing too many games these last few days....................................oh wait they're just lazy and they suck. -
What is it like to play on the same line as Dan Cleary?

I dated Gordie Howe back in high school.

Probably about 50/50, like someone said. What are the odds we'll have a team going in the right direction, to entice him to stay?
-
Good player for us, but too injury prone. From a business standpoint, he's a detriment to this team until he can prove otherwise. Unfortunately, it's hard to find someone like him who has that kind of speed and plays that style. I'm thinking a Draper type player.

Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs

When was the last time all original 6 teams made the playoffs? You gotta figure it'll be harder in the future, now that 4 of these teams will be playing in the same division, and only 4 can advance out of it. -

Holy crap. That would be awesome! Although I wouldn't look forward to playing the Hawks. -

I'm concerned we won't make the playoffs next year, playing in an 8 team division, as opposed to the 7 team ones. With a mediocre team like ours, something like that could count. -
I thought this thread was about our chances of making the playoffs.
-
But I haven't seen any team like these Wings, which ended up winning the Cup. A team with limited skill and limited work ethic. Some systems work better in the playoffs, when you can suffocate teams and gameplan against them strictly. That's why those underdog teams didn't finish higher in those regular seasons. Regular season is a different animal.
-
My point is, if you study those underdogs, there's a blueprint to their success. It's not just dumb luck and getting hot at the right time. They all played a similar, particular style. LA was even better because they mixed the style those other underdogs played, together with great offense and talent to boot.
-
We won our Cups mostly with skill. We had grit as well, especially 1997 and 1998. None of that matters here. I'm talking about this particular team. This team has no grit whatsoever and won't outwork anybody in a series. Howard has never shown that he can steal an entire playoff series, let alone several in one year. He's shown he can outduel the terrible Bryzgalov. Big deal. They've shown what ability to play tight defense? Have you watched this season? We can play a good defensive game here and there, but not anything consistent. The turnovers you alluded to explain why this is not a good defense. Doesn't matter what they can be in the future. We're talking about this team and their ability to make long playoff runs NOW. We can't be any of those things this season. Are we talking about the same roster? Where are you getting these adjectives from?
-
So you think this team can play with the same blueprint that those underdogs did? If you do, you can envision things I can't see. We're none of those things I described on the last page. Our roster isn't built that way. Or we're afraid to become like Montreal Canadiens fans.

I'm talking about style of playing and roster type. Not records. Read what I wrote about it on the last page.
