How much do we miss Rafalski?!?!

We lost him, Stuart and Lidstrom in only a few years. Since you can't replace those players, it's only natural we'd miss them. The reason we suck at puck possession now is because those guys aren't here to start the rush. The powerplay is also important, but secondary to playing the system overall. You can't play this system with such a crappy defensive core with untalented players.

    Nyquist thoughts

I agree. Too many vanilla midgets on our top 6. The biggest one is Franzen, and he doesn't play big at all.
  3. I don't think Ilitch is afraid to spend money, but he doesn't seem to care about the Wings that much anymore. Meaning, he hasn't been putting his foot down enough on Holland's throat, during these last few years of Kenny's inactivity and bad moves. Holland needs to feel a bit more pressure, instead he seems to have total immunity based on past successes (which weren't all his).

    4/4 GDT : Red Wings 2 @ Coyotes 4

We don't need Tatar. Goals and hunger are overrated in hockey.

By then, Tatar should be overripe.

Or that goon Clowe, who can't score goals and hates small children.

Carey Price would eat that puck up. From his cousin Doan, no less.

    I like this team.

Why? Morris for Drury led the downfall of the divealanche organization.

    Fear of the East?

We were a better team in past years. These previous records mean nothing. I do see teams like Boston, Toronto or Philly trying to bully us. It's just part of hockey and getting an edge against rivals. Hopefully, we'll have some different management in place in the future, to handle that kind of thing.

Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs

I'll be in Paris when the last few games are played. I honestly think we'll need to win the last 3 of 4 to get in.

Some of the names we were after.....

Torres Torres? In all seriousness, Raffi is not that good. And he's one hit away from being suspended like 40 games. He would have made us chippier to play against, but is not a long-term option.

    ryan clowe haters

I wanted him to. But I just wrote in a different thread, that it'd be hard to outbid the Rangers. I think they gave up a lot for him. It could prove to be a great move, however. He was someone we'd need. A big, hungry forward who fights and was needing a change of scenery.
  16. I wish we approached Calgary. Feaster was in a mood to trade ice cream for s***. Also, I would have liked a move for Jagr. We wouldn't have to give up much and it would increase our playoff push. I know he'd have no future with the team, but it'd be worth a small risk. At the very least, a real winger to play with Datsyuk. The Clowe thing baffles me. It'd be hard to outbid the Rangers because they gave up so much. He was someone I thought could use a new future somewhere else. I was hoping Detroit. We'll see how that turns out.
  17. I know. Just look at the '80 Islanders.
  18. Yeah, I also think Hockeytown stands for a team that wants to win Cups, and not just make the playoffs. But if we give up on this season, it's not a good pattern for the future. None of our prospects are good enough to be star players that can carry us to a Cup in the next year or two. We'll have to make moves on the market if we want to compete with other teams.
  19. Somebody got an avatar. Honestly, a lot of dislike others and myself have for Holland stems from the last few deadlines and free agent periods. His inactivity and doing nothing as Lidstrom was retiring. Then today happens where he does nothing again. It just boils over. Then he comes back with the same catchphrases and excuses. Enough is enough. If he doesn't want to do anything anymore, maybe he can move on. To answer your question, I didn't think we'd be a Cup contender this year. But lately I did think we'd make a signing to increase our playoff streak. Right now, the streak is in jeopardy. While I don't think "anything" can happen in the playoffs, like some others think, I still think making the playoffs is important. We didn't need to mortgage our entire team today, but a trade here and there would have helped our chances.

    Holland retirement watch?

You mean, there's a chance that Nill loves enforcers and thinks Cleary and Samuelsson are lucky to be playing in the NHL?

    Holland retirement watch?

He would be a good fit in Calgary after they fire Feaster. I wonder, though, how different Nill and Holland are. They've been working together for a long time. Seems like it's the same person with similar ideas on what the team should be.

    Official NHL Trade Deadline thread

If Dan Cleary is a second line winger, anybody is a second line winger.
  23. I make my posts because I believe in what I say. I don't need a legitimate reason to back up speaking my mind. The user name thing was a joke. I make them occasionally to stay sane. And what parades are you talking about? It's just me disagreeing with other posters. No one here is having a parade.

He's not. But Quincey, Sammy and Carlo Coca-Cola aren't worth the money and draft pick we gave up either. Holland does overpay, just for the wrong players.
