    The Red Wings Kryptonite

No. This used to be our achilles heel. Now, our achilles heel has increased to other types of teams as well. The Wings just aren't that good anymore.

We are the Detroit Red Wings and we are making the playoffs

No. They had a hot goalie and a better roster offensively. Much better. They finished as the #1 seed that season if I remember correctly.

I wish it were the other way around.

Luck? They're winning this game because of stupid defensive lapses by Detroit. That's not luck. The Flames deserve to be winning this game.

Babcock is fascinated with trying to turn small Euros into checkers. Remember Hudler and Leino?

Nah. He's exceeded his fight quota for this team.

I knew these Flames jerseys reminded me of someone.

The better question is, when is the last time a team with the roster makeup and style of play of the 2013 Red Wings, win the Cup?

I see it as either having more talent than anyone, or outworking everyone and having a hot goalie/good defense to boot. Of course bounces and health matter, but there's still a certain type of team necessary to win the Cup. It's not juts "let's get in and get lucky" like the "insert team name here" did in the past. I agree. If a team is outmatched, they must outwork the other team to win the Cup. That means outworking the opposition in a 7 game series. Typically, that requires having a physical team and a tight defensive game focused on not making mistakes. But you see the problem, right?

For the millionth time, those teams had a makeup totally different than ours, and played a different style of hockey. We won't outwork anybody in a 7 game series. That's not what our strength is.

Nyquist called up, Tatar sent down

Mike Brown is a great fighter, though. Edmonton must have felt they needed some toughness. So he had some value to them. Pretty solid hitter too. I can see some team coughing something up for Cleary based on past playoff performances, but they wouldn't be doing their homework if they did. Abby is young, which is the only thing I can envision a team seeing in him. I know I'm no GM, but I wouldn't trade any picks for those players if I'm running another team. I'd call up my own guys from the minors instead.

Babs: " ....the players decide who plays, not me...."

I said in the other thread that I don't think we should waive all those players (because of injuries). I realize what the situation is. I'm merely saying that waiving any one of them will not be a loss, and that our pipeline players are no worse than many of the guys currently getting significant opportunities (Cleary, Abby, Miller, etc)

    Soccer!

Barca is Barca, but I can't pick them to win this tournament. With their defensive troubles on counterattacks, they match up poorly against Bayern, Real and Dortmund. The next draw will be interesting.

What do you think we could get in return now for Miller, Abdelkader or Cleary? I have a hard time seeing GM's giving up anything for those plugs. I don't think we should waive all those players (because of injuries), but from a talent standpoint, it will hardly be a loss. Would a guy like Callahan really do worse than Miller has on the 4th line this season? How many fewer points could he produce?

Babs: " ....the players decide who plays, not me...."

It amazes me that anyone thinks he's somehow useful. We could find a grinder out of the minors that could put up similar numbers and play just as hard on the forecheck. If he's waived, this team will lose nothing, even if he's picked up. Insignificant distinction. If he's talking about rewarding players by putting them in the lineup, the same should go for where they play in the lineup. Guys like Cleary, Abdelkader and Quincey have been rewarded with icetime they didn't deserve. Your second line should not be a primarily defensive (checking) line. That's what it was for about 6 or 7 games.

Nyquist called up, Tatar sent down

LOL. I've heard that one before. No, it doesn't make one feel better.

Nyquist called up, Tatar sent down

What risk? Losing Cleary or Abby wouldn't hurt this team. Those guys are just plugs.

Good move Kenny. This will give Tatar time to overripe.

Jim Matheon's top 20 UFAs that could be Dealt

That means we wouldn't re-sign Cleary, though. No thanks.

    chris stewart might be available

No. I hate him because he ran Kronwall from behind with a dirty hit, and then spotpicked against Brad Stuart after a clean hit. I hate him because he's played for both the Avalanche and the Blues. How can I not hate this turd?
  22. GMRwings1983

    chris stewart might be available

I know he's a good player. That's why I don't think we'll get him, nor do I think St. Louis would want to trade him for our crap.
  23. GMRwings1983

    chris stewart might be available

There are only two forwards on the Wings who have scored more points than Stewart this year? Any guess as to who they are? Our garbage tends to be overvalued on this site for sure. If I'm St Louis, I'd ask for Brendan Smith/Filppula plus something else (likely a pick). Quincey is not someone I'd be asking for.

Why would they want Quincey's unproductive ass? Because of his wonderful plus/minus no doubt. His only point this season was that fluke goal (against Columbus I believe). I hate Stewart and would love to see him ran over by a bus. However, he would help our team immensely. Don't know what the Blues asking price is, but I just can't understand why Quincey would be a valued player. The guy is an average jobber. Stewart, on the other hand, has put up really good numbers this season.

I don't know what has happened to Clowe, but he's been terrible this season offensively. His stock has really dropped, so the Sharks should have dealt him last season apparently. Filppula would be too much for him at this point.
