I think we are, but the players like playing for the Wings. Thankfully Many people think of Datsyuk as one of the league's top 2 or 3 players. Yet he doesn't get paid like one of the top 10 forwards in the league. Look at Filppula, who I forgot to mention. Just about any team would pay him more than Holland has signed him too. Even Franzen, people have remarked, gets paid little for what he's produced offensively in past seasons (although now it's looking deserved). With that said, Holland has overpaid some players as well. Samuelsson is getting the same as Filppula, even though he's old and has no upside. Quincey definitely doesn't deserve that bloated contract either. But to make my point, yes we do undervalue our top players. Datsyuk, Kronwall, Zetterberg and Filppula should be getting paid more, and would if they tested the free agent market in the past.

Other teams don't undervalue their stars like the Red Wings do. We're lucky guys like Datsyuk and Kronwall are willing to play for Detroit at such crappy prices for their skill level and comparative rates.

The feelgood story of Dan Cleary.

Meh. The Kings had the kind of roster primed for a deep playoff run. Big, physical team that outworks everyone and rides a hot goalie. I guess someone should have noted that last year before starting that thread. Hence, I wouldn't say anyone can win the Cup because the Kings did. It still takes a certain type of team. Either the one I described above or a team that just has more talent than everyone else (Hawks this year). Wings are a team that is looking for its new identity, since we don't have the puck possession game we once did, with Lidstrom and Rafalski gone.

Red Wings to be in an Eastern conference in latest NHL/NHLPA proposal

Not sure if I'm looking forward to matchups against the Leafs and Bruins with this roster. Will be fun just to see a change, though. -
Does Pierre Lebrun actually watch Red Wing's Hockey
GMRwings1983 replied to puckbags's topic in General
Lebron should stick to basketball. -

I told you guys this defense would right the ship eventually. And to think of all those posters who panicked earlier this year and wanted all those ridiculous trade proposals.

$3 million. $1 million bonus for each playoff series that he wins this season.

Crymson, Babcock has won everything there is to win. How dare you criticize him? Name me a guy who's more accomplished and could coach this team better?

50/50 call, I think. I would have called it yellow. I didn't see intent to injure. At the same time, it was a careless play by Nani, raising his foot like that. Anytime you do that and hit a player, you know certain refs will hand out the red card. Shame the game had to be decided like that, though. Also, it's hard to feel sorry for Man U. I've seen them screw so many poor English teams in similar fashion, especially at Old Trafford. It was good to see a call go against them like that for a change.

He had Pronger in a vulnerable position for a brief moment, but couldn't tee off on him properly.

10 years later, and I still hate J.S. Giguere. Damn that man. Damn him to hell!

Don't know. I'll keep an eye on it.

For that kind of money, I'd rather have Red Kelly make his return to the Wings.

Holland says those dreaded words, "Our Deadline Addition"
GMRwings1983 replied to Jedi's topic in General
Not really. That's what I'd do if Holland doesn't make any moves (like I anticipate). But I still think we need a top 6 winger and a top 4 defenseman. But who's going to give us those? We have nothing to trade really. Holland has set this team back with unnecessary signings, a poor trade last season, and not getting any significant signings coming back. Now we're in this position, where getting Sammy and Bertuzzi back is supposed to excite us somehow, because we're unlikely to get anything better from another team. Yikes. -

Filppula and Tatar should be in the top 6. Not old man Sammy and old man Bertuzzi. I don't think Cleary and Abdelkader should be on the team, period. We can find cheap crap on the market that puts up similar numbers with similar icetime that those players are getting. -
Franzen Is The Wings Most Undeserved Whipping Boy
GMRwings1983 replied to number9's topic in General
But if a player doesn't appear to be playing hard, he doesn't earn what he's paid. No matter how small the sum. Yeah, his numbers seem worthy for that contract, but it looks bad to have a guy floating so often. Doesn't set a good example for the other players either. Hard work breeds hard work in teammates. Franzen breeds laziness. -

Just Helm. This team misses him more than anyone. Bertuzzi plays well once every 7 games or so. He's an old man and not part of the future anyway. People are forgetting how often he floats and how frequently half the forum complains about his play. Samuelsson was a bad signing to begin with. I still don't know where he fits in on this roster. Carlo Coca-Cola wouldn't crack the top 6 anyway. Filppula being out hurts, but he hasn't been out long-term. -

Holland is a broken record. "The powerplay is our enforcer" "We like our team" "Getting our injured guys back is our deadline addition" "Our prospects are overripe in the minors" -
No thanks.

Franzen Is The Wings Most Undeserved Whipping Boy
GMRwings1983 replied to number9's topic in General
That is also true. -
I guarantee you Wings fans aren't the only people who think Perry is a wimp and a spotpicker. BTW, if we had a time machine to ten years ago, we'd have the best power forward in hockey sitting on our current roster in Bertuzzi. Imagine that on Datsyuk's line.
-
No, he's spotpicked against others teams. Look up his track record. And I doubt most informed fans would call him a power forward. And thanks for being sorry so much. Franzen is supposed to be a sniper. He's not doing it too well.

The point isn't in who won the fight (nobody), the point is the fight was a sad example of Corey Perry's supposed "toughness".
