GDT 2/13 GDT : St. Louis Blues 4 at Red Wings 3 (OT)

Good to see these lower line players actually producing offensively. -
Isn't it true that in baseball, the western division teams travel more? I mean, they have to travel across several time zones to play both the central and eastern teams, while, the central and eastern teams only have to travel across multiple time zones when playing against the west. They don't have to when playing among each other. Either way, the western teams have to travel more.

That's where the Saskatoon Panthers come in.

Cleary should center the top line and play the point on the powerplay. Cleary, Cleary, Cleary.......................
-
Undoubtedly, this is the beginning of the big Stamkos trade that Kenny and Yzerman have been plotting all along.
-
Best two-way player ever was Red Kelly, who may ironically be the biggest mistake the Wings ever made, in letting him go. Kelly went on to continue his brilliant career in Toronto, creating another dynasty, while the Wings became stuck in mediocrity. All ties in pretty well with this thread. Not anymore.

I don't like that sentiment. "Our guys" have been handsomely paid for their services in Hockeytown, as well as rewarded with big games in important playoff moments. Not like these guys were interns all this time working for free. This organization doesn't owe these guys anything. Veterans should be kept around if they can still play better than the younger guys. Players like Bertuzzi and Cleary don't deserve a permanent place in the lineup with total immunity. Yet, that appears to be what they have.

"Lidstrom is overrated" Wayne Gretzky

Do people spend the entire game in the bathroom or something?
-
I'm a sucker for history, so I wish they'd keep it. There's plenty of sporting venues around the world that have been around since the beginning of the last century. The JLA isn't even close to the age those buildings are.
-
And we only gave up a goal.

As soon as you come up with a reason why Cleary is on the team.

As I've said before several times, I'm confused as to what our current identity is and what it will be in the future. For a long time, this team has been built on puck possession and skill. It started from having great defensemen who could make terrific breakout passes, and top two forward lines with tremendous skill. I don't think we're that good anymore, especially on the blueline to play this style effectively. At the same time, there's another way to succeed. Hot goaltending mixed with solid defense, and a tight checking game that wears teams down. Needless to say, we don't have that either. I think this team will be average all season because we're not good enough go glide past teams anymore, and don't work hard enough to outwork anyone either. I have no clue what the future pool of prospects will amount to, in regards to what kind of hockey the Wings will play in the future. Do we have enough skill to be a great puck possession team down the line? Are we tough enough and solid enough defensively to win games that way in the future?

Not a big loss. He was still a week and a half away from having another breakout "Bertuzzi" game. -
There is a code, but it often gets broken, even by tough guys. Fact is, if I was coaching Chicago, I would instruct every fighter on my team to try and engage Torres as often as possible during the game. Same thing next game. Don't know if I'd instruct anyone to "paralyze" him, but I'd by no means lay off him just because he fought last night. Make it a recurring thing for Torres to fight. He's a sack of garbage who has hardly learned his lesson based on how many times he's been suspended. I hate Hossa, but that's what I think about this type of incident.
-
But Franzen is not a tough guy, so it'd be OK if he did it.
-
My only complaint is that Franzen didn't drop his gloves and start pounding away while Perron was laying on the ice. But he's too soft for that.
-
Seriously? It's a penalty, which was called. That's all I think of it. You guys are overreacting.

I would have marked out if Franzen just started punching that little French ***** when he was down. -

I say Mrazek starts next game. He needs more experience, let's just put it that way for PR purposes. -

If Probert and Kocur were on this team, Backes would have skated up to Datsyuk afterwards and apologized.
