Our 3rd and 4th liners are all expendable players, except for Helm (who we're not trading). So we don't really have much "quality" depth. No one wants recyclable players in a trade. They can get those themselves and probably already have them.

I predicted that in a shortened season Babcock and any other coach wouldn't wait long to mix and match lines. There's simply no time to give players more time to gel together. Datsyuk and Zetterberg were doing nothing together, so it was time to split them up.

Too many small, skilled players. Not enough high prospects with different body types and styles of play. We already have too many weak players who can't win puck battles along the boards.

By watching how they play when called up to the NHL. Even these so-called "overripe players" don't look all that impressive.

Offensive minded is different than offensively effective. It's a matter of semantics, probably. I guess White can be a decent offensive defenseman, but a lot of that was thanks to Lidstrom last season. Smith still has to prove himself and Quincey has been a disaster. Ericsson doesn't have an accurate enough shot from the point, which is why he never plays on the PP. -
We don't have anyone who can play the physical game he plays. Helm would be the closest, but Tootoo is more physical and more dangerous to play against than Helm. And Helm is seemingly always hurt now to boot. If you're looking to bench someone who isn't contributing in their "role", it wouldn't be Tootoo. And role players are very important to teams. You make them sound pointless in your first sentence. The Wings wouldn't have won any of our Cups without role players.

Is it just me, or has Boll fought all our fighters from the last few years? Downey Lilja May Tootoo I was going to type in Ericsson, but it was Dorsett who Ericsson fought last year. He can beat taller guys, but Tootoo isn't as great a fighter as he used to be several years ago. Just be happy that he's willing and will stick up for the team. I don't expect him to win many fights this year.
