'Red Dawn' cast attended Wings' game while filming
GMRwings1983 replied to rrasco's topic in General
Gregory Peck? Didn't know he was alive and a Wings fan. -
I didn't say that. He's not responsible for starting this dynasty. However, he and several others helped carry it along and keep it at or near the top.

I guess I hate a lot of players. -
He had a good run after inheriting a great franchise with lots of money, and had success transitioning that franchise to a post lockout/salary cap era. However, the last few offseasons and trading deadlines have shown that Holland and the Red Wings aren't really that special anymore.

An "All-Provincial" Team From Each Province

Wow! Thanks for the info. I thought they'd have more than that for some reason. -

Injured Filppula out 6-8 weeks with sprained MCL
GMRwings1983 replied to puckbags's topic in General
I guess this is a big deal if there's a season, since it'll be a shortened season, and we're bound to have other injuries, since Holland didn't do s*** in the offseason and we're already old. But if there's no season, it's not a big deal. -
Sakic was great, but he didn't have to carry a franchise in his prime like Yzerman did. Also, he didn't have as many 50+ goal seasons as Yzerman. He was never a pure scoring machine like Stevie. And you're not going to win this argument on some Denver poll. Not the brightest people, especially with all the weed they're going to have now.

What is the deadline date before the season is cancelled?

This will never happen, but the best way to get back at these clowns is if the fans stopped going to games. Let them play in arenas that are half-empty or even a quarter full. Then, they'll realize that fans are actually important to their revenue. Right now, their feeling is that people will go to games no matter what. Very arrogant attitude. Kind of like oil companies. Except, I don't think hockey is as necessary to people as gasoline. Bottom line, the fans should boycott. I'm talking about all fans, whether they be hardcore season ticket holders or not.

Disney Buys Star Wars, 3 New Films Coming
GMRwings1983 replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in Water Cooler
The last three Star Wars movies were fun when they came out, but in retrospect, they weren't that good, didn't have memorable long lasting characters unlike their predecessor films, and had a pathetically acted love angle between Anakin and Natalie Portman's character. I can still go back and watch the original movies and say they'll hold up over time. They're fantastic. Not so much for the latter three. These movies will make tons of money (all the blockbusters do now), and if you're a greedy exec, they're a good idea. But if you want to see good movies which you can re-watch over the years, I doubt this Disney thing will give us that. -
Better to have these injuries now than in April...............I mean April 2014, when we actually have an NHL playoff again.
-
And in case you really hate your life, Wings vs. Pens, 2009 SCF now on NHL network.

This may sound like an uninformed answer, but if I was already a millionaire set for life, I wouldn't care that much that I was unemployed for a while. Hell, I've had long unemployment periods in my youth already, and I'm not a millionaire. I'd ride the lockout out and see what happens next year, when I'm assuming the new deal will break through. Now if I was a young player trying to prove himself and start making money (assume I'm not rich yet), I'd likely play in the Czech or Swedish league (heard their girls are hot) Oh, and if Arsenal needed a true striker, I'd consider that option as well.

Not saying Holland didn't try better. Just saying at the end of the day, he failed at improving this team in any significant way as to challenge for the Conference. But hey, it's all make-believe anyway, since there won't be a season. Who knows which players won't return for the future. We already have an old team. It's just been a s***ty year for hockey, especially here on LGW. Short playoff, disappointing offseason and now an empty year with no hockey ahead.
-
No reason to think this team comes out of the first round, if there's a season. They've regressed the last several years and the offseason hardly improved the roster, to warrant giving them an A.
-
Don't Bettman and the NHL want to see Crosby play this season? Get this deal done already.
-
So that leaves Phoenix as still the team most likely to relocate to Quebec City. Who else could be up for relocation? Florida?

Who was the better Wing/Player? Yzerman or Lidstrom
GMRwings1983 replied to number9's topic in General
Not to mention, his plus/minus numbers were pretty good during the Edmonton heyday. In fact, I think his career plus/minus is around +500! Not because he was great defensively, but because his line was always scoring and dominated the puck. He didn't have to play much defense really. -
Who was the better Wing/Player? Yzerman or Lidstrom
GMRwings1983 replied to number9's topic in General
Gretzky and Lemieux are way above Yzerman on the all time greatest centers list. Yzerman was better as a two-way center, but so were Fedorov and Datsyuk. Would you rank them above Gretzky also? -

GMRwings1983 replied to number9's topic in General
No way Lidstrom ranks above Howe on any NHL list of best players. -
Quincey to play for Denver Cutthroats CHL Hockey Team
GMRwings1983 replied to Behind Enemy Lines in CO's topic in General
Seems like a strange name for a team. Pretty sure in pro sports, such a name would be considered too inappropriate, since it implies cutting someone's throat, which I believe is illegal. -
None of those players are pure goal scorers, as the stats show.

GMRwings1983 replied to number9's topic in General
Better player. Lidstrom Better Red Wing. Yzerman. I think Lidstrom's all time ranking will ultimately be higher around NHL circles, but Yzerman was more important for the franchise and being the face of the team so long.
