Do you want us to trade for Ott?

Playoffs? Who said anything about playoffs? Sign away Kenny.

Cheveldae wore it before Grimson, not after.

    Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov

I think it's a total crime that Stu Grimson's number 32 isn't hanging in the rafters. It's not like many people have worn that number since he left. May as well make it official.

I wouldn't. But I think they should also retire Red Kelly and Norm Ullman's numbers. Two of the best players in Red Wings history.

    Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov

I can say he was one of the best forwards of his era. But that doesn't make him top 25 all time in my book. Don't know what Datsyuk has to do with that argument. I wouldn't rank him that high either. And yes, I'd take a prime Fedorov over a prime Datsyuk.

    Bottom Six

Yeah, he was about 6'5. I guess enforcers tend to be about that size nowadays, but we know where this team is with that. I'd like to have seen a guy like Winchester pursued by Detroit these last few offseasons. A big forward who can hit and score.

Wikipedia? I'm sure they meant he was one of the best of his time and a Hall of Famer. However, I don't think any of them said his all time ranking should be as high as the guys you compared him too.

LOL. He's not remotely in the same league as any of those players. To say otherwise is indeed ridiculous.

Huh? I thought Ray Sheppard was like 6'0 tall?

You must have misread my post. The discussion was about why Sawchuk was in the rafters, despite not playing his whole career in Detroit. I said Sawchuk was one of the 5 best goalies ever. Sure, Fedorov was one of the best forwards in his era, but he's not even one of the 20 best forwards in history.

    Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov

Yeah, but his entire prime was played in Detroit. Fedorov was technically still a star player when he went to Anaheim. Besides, Sawchuk is one of the 5 best goalies of all time. This team wouldn't be crazy enough not to retire his number. Fedorov was great, but not one of the very best forwards in NHL history.

    Bottom Six

I doubt any of them crack the lineup this season. I'm just going by the last time we dressed a 6'4 forward for even 20 regular season games. Anyone?

    Bottom Six

Once again, our bottom 6 won't have any big, physical forwards on it. I mean, we do have some smaller guys that like to hit, but this isn't midget hockey. It wouldn't hurt to have a 6'3 or 6'4 forward that likes to hit people into the boards. A guy like that would be a good compliment for a Helm or Tootoo. Maybe Holland has something against tall people.

My second favorite player ever. I was upset when he left, but don't hold it against him in the long run. His career did become somewhat irrelevant after he left, so it ended up a bad move for him more than the Wings. I would retire his number if I was running the team, but based on their precedent I wouldn't (I sound like a judge). The guys they retired basically spent their entire career with the Wings. I mean they didn't even retire Red Kelly's number, likely for that reason. It's a strict policy, but that's how the Wings do it.

Semin signs one year, $7m deal with Carolina

Well, I'd say all those teams you listed have a better top 6 right now than we have. I can see why the others didn't make moves, but we should have.

    Double post.

Semin signs one year, $7m deal with Carolina

Well, he did get Kronwall for cheap when he re-signed last year. Like I said, Holland has been spoiled by players taking less money to stay with this franchise. He expects everyone to do the same, especially when other teams are offering those players huge contracts. Not gonna happen.

I don't know what would even be called an overpayment anymore? Seems like everyone is getting overpaid. Maybe the Wings should start "overpaying" too. Holland is lucky guys like Datsyuk and Filppula are willing to get paid less than what they deserve. I should add Kronwall to that list as well. Maybe they've spoiled Kenny into making this a cheapskate franchise. Start paying the bucks Holland. They're not even yours.

Remember how everyone felt OK after the Nashville loss, because we'd have plenty of money to spend on all these big free agents left and right?

Logo Hunter vs. Missing the Net - Fight!

Wouldn't Filppula be more prone to missing the net than Franzen?

Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?

You call finishing 5th, regular season dominance? And that was last year with a better team.

    Bouwmeester opinions? Potential trades? *merged*

I'd take him if he agrees to a massive paycut.

    Holland Content with Current Roster

Tootoo isn't really a ringleader. He's a good fighter, but he doesn't have a McGrattan or Belak to protect him in Detroit.
  25. Bertuzzi didn't even land a punch. I'm saying Weber wouldn't have done it in the first place if he knew somebody like MacIntyre or Engelland would be after him at some point in the future. Who would?
