Flyers sign Weber to offer sheet: 14y/$110m ($56m 1st 4yrs)

No. The Pens actually have enforcers who could kick Weber's ass. Unlike some other teams. I doubt he'd try it.- 469 replies

BTW, I do this all the time on NHL 12. Give a player a monster offer sheet, knowing the other team will match it. Good way to drive up other teams' caps. Thank you Kevin Lowe for the idea. Granted, I'm pretty sure the Flyers are dead serious about this offer, and not just being dicks.- 469 replies

Our Cup victories often involved "balls to the walls signings". I don't know what you're trying to argue. And you know I'm not a Flyers fan so why waste your time? Holland made huge moves in 2002 and we won the Cup as a result. Now he seems to be falling on his face with the salary cap. Are you arguing that by not doing s***, we're somehow better off or better apt to win the Cup? I doubt it.- 469 replies

Holland should do what the samurai used to do when they failed at their jobs. Commit seppuku. He tried to make important moves and none of them worked. Unfortunately, his job is making moves to improve the team, not merely "trying" to make moves that help the team. Be a man Holland.

And who would make that team better? Maybe Crosby. You mentioned Jokinen's big point seasons. Where did that take the Panthers? They didn't even make the playoffs with him. Unless you're a goalie, you can't carry a team into the playoffs in the NHL. If Nash is healthy, and playing with Datsyuk or Zetterberg, he'll put up bigger numbers than he ever put up in Columbus. This is all pointless talk honestly, because we're unlikely to get a trade with Columbus.
-
Very misleading stats. Look at Vermette's numbers in the surrounding seasons from that 2010 season, and you'll see why he's not in Nash's league. Same with Huselius. You can't just pick one season (from 3 years ago) and use that as proof that those players are as good as Nash. I'd explain it the same way I'd explain Filppula having similar numbers as Zetterberg last year. Doesn't mean he's a better player.

When was the last time the Flyers made a big free agent splash that didn't turn out badly? All I remember are Forsberg many years ago, then Pronger and then Bryzgalov. Granted, Pronger did help them get to the Finals, but look how he ended up. They're a good team, but this doesn't put them over the top or anything like that. They still have major goalie issues.- 469 replies

Because they actually concentrated on other facets of their game. They did win the division, albeit a much weaker division. This Fleischmann argument is stupid. There's much worse players in the league who scored more than Ovechkin did last year too. Doesn't mean they're better.
-
Florida didn't have worse talent. They actually have a decent team and showed it last year. Also, when is the last time Datsyuk and Zetterberg scored 90 points like Jokinen did, according to your argument? Would you consider them top 5 at their position? You can't just look at points. Nash realizes he's going nowhere in Columbus, and it affected his game last year. While he's still near his prime, he needs to go elsewhere and rejuvenate his career.

With cap space to clear, do Flyers become a Wings trade partner?

What 2009 giveaway? You're thinking of "Mr. Game 7" (Brad Stuart) I want Simmonds or Rinaldo on the team. Would make us tougher to play against. -

Wow! They may as well sign Jeremy Lin while they're at it. The NHL better be careful with all these overpaid players. They don't need another lockout.- 469 replies

He should stay retired and spend more time with Willa Ford.

Did Rick Nash steal your corn dog during school lunch or something?
-
Not to us, apparently. I doubt Nash will be traded to Detroit.

Nice 4th line. Two lazy forwards who won't forecheck. And we'd be paying Samuelsson 3 million to play 4th line duty. May as well put a tough guy in there.
-
Then maybe we should replace him with a top 5 player at his position and see what happens.
-
I don't know if any player in the league could have scored 80 points with Columbus last year.

As people here say when other teams sign free agents..........OVERPAID!!!!!! -
It's not like one guy had a better passing center than the other.

Red Wings make "helluva" offer for Nash, no response

This would be almost as cool as Hogan joining the NWO. -
I'll believe it when I see it. In the meantime......

I've said this a million times, but other than beating Bryzgalov, Howard hasn't won a playoff series yet. And we know how bad Bryzgalov is in the playoffs. At the same time, the difference in the Nashville series was "mistakes". Most of the goals Nashville got were because of turnovers the Wings defense made behind the net, and the puck was quickly thrown out front to an open man for a goal. We didn't have any chances like that on the other side of the ice. The laziness of Brad Stuart was especially bad in the series.

Dominik Hasek's agent: "He will play, and he will excel"

Who's his agent? Evander Holyfield? -
You'll be watching those young guys as you're also watching old people like Bertuzzi, Holmstrom and Samuelsson wasting space out there.
