Sharapova seems really hard working. I agree with whoever brought up the old Soviet teams and how they were essentially together all year, worked like dogs, and got paid squat. Those guys retired to live in apartment buildings along with other civilians. Not like nowadays, where there's all these guaranteed millions. Maybe I'm wrong, but I bet there's a lot more lazy Canadians in hockey now than there was 30 or 40 years ago. Just part of this era more than anything else. Guaranteed money would make us all more likely to be lazy.

I know one thing. If this was NHL 12, I'd be fired as GM for doing as little as Holland has done the last few years. We're not entertaining. Signing a top offensive player or an enforcer would have made us more entertaining. We didn't do either, although Tootoo should excited the ennui laden JLA crowd somewhat.

I've had more than my share of arguments around here. People are just tired of debating me, I guess.

I was talking about the team as they are now. That's kind of what this thread is about. Holland being content if we don't add anything else.

Same old s*** from Holland. He's done nothing of significance the last several deadlines and offseasons. This offseason, his big accomplishment is signing a 4th liner that any GM could have signed and that old goof Samuelsson, who we don't need at this point. And that's coming off three early playoff exits in a row and the retirement of your best player for the last decade. I don't know what our record will be next season, but the offseason up until now has been a disaster. But Holland's mentality is, "All is well" Honesty is a b****.

I can proudly say that in my almost 5 years here (anniversary coming up ), I'm quite confident no one has ever dared put me on ignore.

I didn't say we were guaranteed to miss the playoffs. I said this was a borderline playoff team. But any talk of the Cup right now is a little silly. Unless Holland makes a big addition of some kind.

LOL. What Cup is that? The cup of Christ? Howard would have to steal every playoff series for us to win. So far, he's been decent in his career, but nothing spectacular in the playoffs. He's only beaten Bryzgalov and that's it.

That lineup would be lucky to make the playoffs. I think they'll make at least one improvement until then, but I don't expect our lineup to look that much different than what the OP wrote. We'll see what Holland does until then to avoid having this lineup.

Actually, the Wings were prepared to offer Suter a pretty big contract themselves. So Holland is that stupid.

I'm not talking about fighting. I'm talking about playing gritty and battling for pucks in corners. I think it's easier to do that when your teammates play a similar style, especially on the bottom lines. They set the tone for the game and you follow their example. Our 4th line last year was a joke and didn't set the tempo for any kind of physical or gritty style. Hence, I don't think Kopitar would play like he did in LA for our team.

That's because the Kings have big, gritty players on the roster, who toughen him up. We don't. I always say Downey, Drake, McCarty and Lilja toughened our soft Euros up as the season went on in 2008. Who do we have now that can stir the pot on the 4th line? I guess we just added Tootoo, so that should help. But I still think we need more in that department. Then Holland comes out and spends 3 million on Samuelsson of all people.

Is he going to trade himself for Steve Yzerman?

Any chance Lidstrom signs with Minnesota instead, to be their scout?

I hope he does a better job than he did with Suter.

Don't forget, the guy killed Matt Cooke. That should make every team want him.

Semin will come to Detroit, and the season will have a happy ending in June. I can foresee it.
