What if he replaces Brent Johnson in Pittsburgh?

Then I guess people define that word "elite" differently than I do. That's what the OP wrote in his initial post, yet only seven posters have chosen "none". Weird.

If you could pick any 23 players in the NHL to start a franchise with

MacIntyre - Crosby - Godard Fritz - Konopka - Parros Gillies - Haley - Orr Hordichuk - Westgarth - Ivanans Lidstrom - Erskine Brookbank - Carkner Murray - Scott Quick Emery Didn't include the salary cap numbers (oops!) but I'm pretty sure this will pass the cap. -
Some people don't know when to quit.

Illitch "definitely committed" to new downtown arena

I've never been to the JLA, but I feel like I should go before it's demolished. So when exactly will the Wings move into the new stadium? I want to know how long I've got. -
When you say "elite", I think of star players, as in Datsyuk or Zetterberg. Based on that, the safe answer is none.

I haven't been this excited since we signed the great Derian Hatcher.

You just had to put together line combos for this thread, even though it has nothing to do with it. I would choose a healthy Crosby over anyone, but as it stands now, I'd take Stamkos. -
If only they can bust out those Gretzky era jerseys for the Finals.

#6 New Jersey Devils vs. #1 New York Rangers

Callahan needs to make a public guarantee that the Rangers will win game 6. -
What do you mean by "elevate their game"? I don't think there's anything shooters can do to put up numbers like we saw 15 or 25 years ago. The rule changes have made games a little more open, but it hasn't resulted in higher goal scoring because the netminders are too good. So I don't think the skaters need to up their game or that there's not enough great players in the league nowadays, because there are. Fact is, guys like Gretzky or Lemieux would still dominate today's NHL, but there's no way they'd be scoring 175 points in every season. So yeah, I would make things a little harder on the goalie. I don't know if that means reducing equipment size again, or taking away the crease. However, I'm not willing to go too far to compromise the game (like having bigger nets).

#8 Los Angeles Kings vs. #3 Phoenix Coyotes

I think Milbury is bipolar. He seems to like fighting and tough play but then at other times he seems to hate it. He promotes hitting, but then he's against this split second borderline play. This is a guy that once attacked a fan with a shoe. -
But goal scoring is way down from the 80's and early 90's, even though the skaters are bigger, faster and better trained than they used to be. Pretty obvious the goalies have progressed faster than the skaters. They're dominating the game right now.

The league won't say anything publicly, but those refs should be prevented from officiating anymore playoff games this season. -

The officiating was pretty awful in the OT. Voynov chips the puck over the glass but there's no penalty. Doughty gets called for interference when it shouldn't have been. Doughty gets called for offside when the puck was clearly onside. The Brown play could go either way, so I'm not blaming the refs for not calling that one. But they were terrible during the period. There should be some accountability for them. -
We've seen several 8 seeds in the Finals since the lockout. They could have the best chance to win it, though. Broadway vs. Hollywood. Letterman vs. Leno. It would be epic indeed!

I don't think people like the Rangers, I think people would rather see a New York/LA final, like you mentioned with the ratings. I know you like Jersey, but it shouldn't be hard to understand why everyone wants the Rangers in the final. And yes, Tortorella is annoying and always wants the spotlight on him and not his team. All the coaches in the league combined don't whine as much as him. -

Any way to incorporate Yzerman, Howe or Hockeytown in the arena name? And BTW, I'll miss knowing the Wings play in the coolest arena name in sports. In today's corporate prison world, to name an arena after a boxing legend is pretty awesome. We'll not see that again I'm afraid. -
The butterfly style of goaltending has made goalies better. Watching videos of vintage games, lots of goals were scored from long shots with no screen. Now they swallow those up every time. Seems like teams can find scrubs out of the minors who are already well trained and can steal games left and right in the NHL. Even 15 years ago, there weren't so many journeymen goalies coming out of the minors or junior leagues with so much training and ability. I've joked before that goalies should be forced to play stand-up style again, but I don't see the league realistically mandating that.
-
Then the league should take the crease away in order to increase goal scoring. It'll offset all that giant equipment goalies wear nowadays. Seems only fair since goalies are better trained now than they've ever been in the past. They have all the advantages right now.

Boy the Devils are being real cockblockers here. Phoenix will be gone in a matter of time, but Jersey may actually win this series. I don't want that and the NHL shouldn't want it either. -
As others have said, a magical run for Chelsea. I had a feeling Drogba would score in this game. He always scores in big games. Munich lost primarily because Mario Gomez had the worst game of his life, in a situation where he should have shined, with no Terry or Ivanovic.

I want more changes than anyone, but even I wouldn't make that trade.
