WCQF Game 5 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Predators 2

So every time one of our dumbass defensemen turns the puck over behind his own net, you'd call that a bounce for Nashville? I'd call that sloppy hockey. -

This team just looks broken. At least Vancouver and Pittsburgh won a game while facing elimination. The spirit isn't there for this team, however. And thank you Mr. Babcock for not playing Datsyuk and Zetterberg together. It's not like we need any goals or anything. -

Nashville has done nothing spectacular in this series offensively. Only reason they can score on their chances and we can't score on ours, is that their chances are better and easier. Reason for that is the mistakes. Nashville isn't making the defensive mistakes we are. How many chances have we had in this series like that Radulov one? I can't think of many. -

I would trade Kyle Quincey for a bag of turds right now. That way, I'd get equal value for my trade. -

That's the 1,000th goal Nashville has scored in this series from a behind the net turnover, where they throw the puck out front to a wide open man. The Wings are a broken record defensively. Same mistakes over and over. -
I'm always going to feel in my heart of hearts that with George Parros, this whole series would have been different. I'll never get over knowing that.

Odds are that someone may do it, but I still voted none of the above.

Parity is stupid, especially in the West. There's many teams in the East that can get national ratings. However, in the West you have LA, Phoenix, St. Louis and Nashville who will likely advance. That's not good for ratings. Those teams are supplanting regular Cup contenders like Detroit, San Jose, Chicago and Vancouver. I'm not likely to watch the rest of the Western Conference playoffs with these teams advancing.

#6 Chicago Blackhawks vs. #3 Phoenix Coyotes

I never knew that Phoenix has never won a playoff series. Does that include their Winnipeg days? -
Lidstrom was in his prime and Fedorov was maybe a year or two removed from his. And guys like Yzerman, Shanahan and Chelios still had many years of All-Star caliber play to give. And we had the best checking line in the league. This year's team has older players that don't have anything more to give, let alone All Star play for several more seasons. I'm talking Bertuzzi, Holmstrom and Cleary. And our checking line is a freaking joke which couldn't intimidate a girl's softball team. Trust me, we were in much better shape for the future in 2001, even if we didn't go out and sign three Hall of Famers that summer. Don't forget that Hasek retired after 2002 and Robitaille left after 2003. Hull played an extra season after that. Yet the Wings continued to dominate for many more seasons after their departures, because we had up and coming talent in the form of Datsyuk and Zetterberg, plus leftovers from 2001 who were still great players. When Lidstrom retires, we won't have Hall of Fame players left on our roster and there's no one in our system who will become Datsyuk or Zetterberg. Or even a Kronwall.

Cause we'd just hit shinpads and goalie crests with our shots. -

I wish we had a team that could score when the goalie is pulled. That's the second time Chicago has done it in this series. -
Not really. Back then one team could sign Hasek, Hull and Robitaille in the same offseason. Not anymore with the salary cap. Besides, the 2001 Wings were a lot better than this team. More star players in their prime and a deeper skill set overall with a brighter future. This team doesn't look all that good for the future with this group of players.

I think there's a tendency to think everything is just dandy when you're a part of the team, especially as the coach or GM. Just too deep inside the organization to see otherwise. A really great GM can divorce himself from that kind of biased thinking, and realize that his team needs some changes. Sort of an outside perspective. I don't think Babcock or Holland realize that this team isn't that good and needs changes. They have no outside perspective That's why no improvements were made after two consecutive second round losses.

I think the NHL would be much better off if Detroit and Chicago reached the deeper rounds of the playoffs. There's many marketable teams in the east, but none out west besides those two. These Pacific Division teams are not good for the league's ratings in any way. Neither are Nashville or St. Louis for that matter.

So Lidstrom would be making less money than Ericsson?

#5 Philadelphia Flyers vs. #4 Pittsburgh Penguins

Making it a ***** league so people on espn and the media in general will be satisfied. I guess no one watched hockey in the 70's and 80's. -

This series is making the 80's Oilers blush at all these goals. Of course, the 80's Oilers would probably score 15 goals against these teams. -
And Downey toughened up our soft euros during the regular season, to ready them in time for the playoffs.

Every goalie who's participated in this series should be lined up against the wall, and shot with a Mauser. Looks like we might be the first team eliminated from the playoffs. Unless Vancouver loses tonight. -
I would just add Parros, Moen and maybe get Downey out of retirement. Other than that, I wouldn't load the team up with tough guys or do anything drastic in that department.
-
Line combos don't matter. We have to many floaters and too many older guys playing with injuries.

Did you watch Hossa's playoffs here in 2009?
