Would Detroit make the playoffs this season if not for shootout wins?

Looks like Chicago has decided they want to be the 6 seed. Not a bad choice for them really. They have no previous troubles with San Jose.

I remember the Krupp games pretty well. The first two games we lost to Vancouver where he looked lost. Williams, I don't remember as well. I think Larionov may have missed a few games where Williams filled in for him or something.

Yeah, I thought the rivalry may be revived in 2008, but it didn't exactly happen. We needed to beat Colorado in 2002, though, because of what happened in 1999 and 2000.

When was the last time Detroit finished 4th in the division? Must be 80's.

For some reason (back then I was actually optimistic) I felt that we would win that game 6. Obviously, in a tight defensive series and before the "new NHL" rules were implemented, any goal was huge. That goal wound up being the winning goal, and the first time in the series the Wings scored first.

So we can't play Chicago in the first round in any scenario?

Yeah, Philly doesn't have any whiners on their team. Briere and Jagr come to mind. I'm sure there's others if I thought hard about it.

But plenty have gotten to the Finals, and in recent memory. As someone said, it's more likely to happen nowadays than ever with parity. Problem is, most of those teams battled their way into the playoffs to clinch those lower seeds. This team has bungled their way into the playoffs and is on a cold streak right now. I don't see that kind of 6 seed going to the Finals.

That play did turn that series around for sure. But the true "turning point in the playoffs" would have to be Lidstrom's goal on Cloutier. I'm surprised more people aren't voting for that one really.

It's easy to forget that Detroit had to score with the goalie pulled just to tie it up. (We don't do things like that anymore ).

Powerplay is still an unmitigated disaster. I know Boston made it last year with no powerplay, but this team absolutely needs one. We can't survive without it.
