Why do goalies ever try to play pucks? Especially goalies who aren't as good at it as they think. Especially at the JLA.

First off, I don't understand why Selanne wants to finish his career on a non-playoff team. Makes more sense to make one more Cup run and then retire. Second of all, I don't know why we'd trade for a guy that will only be here half a season. Unlike an Iginla or Parise move, Selanne won't likely return next season, let alone play a few more years. We'd be trading assets for little in return.

Yeah, we'd be tougher if we got a Moen and kept Abby. I was just saying that if we have to move him in order to get a better version of him, I'm sold.

As I've said before, I liked him better when he was first called up and tried to hit everything that moved. He's not a bad player for us, but we can get a better version of Abdelkader easily. And I'm still upset about his 0 points in 11 playoff games last season and all the dumb penalties he took. Bottom line for me, is that other than Helm, none of our 4th liners are guys I "absolutely" think we need to keep long term. If we keep Abby, so be it, and if not, we can replace him just fine.

In all fairness, Zetterberg's numbers are crappy this year too. Same as Ovechkin. That doesn't mean those guys are worse than Filppula, who's putting up better stats per icetime.

I've always said the same thing. He fared well with Clowe and beat Dorsett. And having Ericsson off the ice for 5 minutes is hardly a detriment to our team. I wonder why Babcock doesn't encourage him to fight more?

I'm just glad he's not a Forsberg type guy, or else he'd come back and "just" play in that one game. I'm starting to lean in him returning as well. But you never know.

Just because we're first in the league doesn't mean we don't need improvement. Wings fans of all fans should know better. The last two times we had the best record in the West, the roster was better than this one. We need another goal scorer in our top 6. That would help the powerplay. Wouldn't hurt to look at defensive depth or even a solid grinder with size on our bottom six. There's many ways we could improve really. Also, you have to realize that other contenders will improve their team. Holland can't sit around while those teams are getting better. And we wouldn't match up well with the Sharks again. Being first wouldn't change that. It goes beyond just home ice advantage. We'll hit them in the head with our Presidents Trophy! Nice try, but you could have said the same about last season. For all we knew Lidstrom was retiring. That argument holds no water. Other teams are motivated as well. Other teams without Cup rings.

Wonder how many Leafs fans will indeed show up. I say about half the stadium.

They're a good team, but I think we match up better against them than we do against San Jose or St. Louis. There's just too many good teams in the West right now. Too many teams to worry about.

These are all problems, but the lack of a great top 6 scorer is the biggest. Special teams is a streaky thing anyway, and as others have pointed out, a sniper would improve our powerplay.
