Of course they are. They won it before with a goalie no one ever heard of, and they're stacked at the forward position. Defensive depth may not look great, but they can still make some moves to improve their team before the playoffs. We match up better against them than we do against the Sharks (who ironically don't match up well with Chicago), but it would be a tough series.

Westgarth would kill Ericsson.
-
This is too easy. LA just looks like a team that has no desire to compete. You'd think a coaching change would have fired them up. They're dead right now.
-
Because he's horribly inconsistent. For every 10 games where he puts up points, he goes 10 more where he isn't even visible on the ice. He doesn't bring it every night. His inconsistencies have been even more pathetic in the last few playoffs he's played in.

"No offense" is right. That's why Hudler should be moved.

Mike Babcock praises Red Wings' physical game
GMRwings1983 replied to Red Wings Addict's topic in General
Too many people on LGW don't like the idea of any player being moved. Seems like a bunch of fanboy slappies that would rather lose in the 2nd round with this roster than win the Cup with a few new players being added in return for some current ones. Apparently, everyone outside of Ericsson and Hudler are untouchable. How dare any poster propose a reasonable idea about moving some people? -
How Are The (former) UFA's That We All Wanted Doing?

Yeah, that's right. He was a UFA in 2010. I know his name always comes up on this site. -

Great show. I agree with a lot of what Bryzgalov says, but I don't know if that's the kind of thinking you want from your starting netminder of all people. Won't likely be as fun as the 2003 Wings special. Personalities like Chelios, Hull, Shanny and McCarty are gone from the team. The Wings now are a lot more reserved.

Chris Pronger to miss remainder of 11/12 season & playoffs

This concussion thing seems to be getting worse and worse every year. I don't remember it being that big an issue 5 or 10 years ago. It's like some flu bug going around the NHL. I guess the doctors are just more knowledgeable about it now and taking more precautions. Very disturbing and frightening. I guess Shanahan's bans haven't taken head injuries out of the game or made things safer in that regard. -
It doesn't matter if they play small or not. The fact is that they're smaller forwards. A spade is a spade. I'm saying they won't physically wear teams down if they're all in the lineup at the same time. You need a bigger forward in there somewhere as well. Someone has to be the odd man out. Doesn't anyone here understand the concept of balance through a lineup? This isn't a video game where you can just throw skilled players of any size on all 4 lines. You need some sandpaper guys out there. There's a difference between regular season success and playoff hockey, and people here keep forgetting it all the time. The top 6 forward I agree with you. We need to make some kind of move at the deadline. It'll likely involve moving several of our forwards to get some big name in return. If we acquire Doan, I don't think he'd be on the 3rd line. He's a better player than Bertuzzi or Hudler, who are both on the top two lines right now. Not to mention, we'll likely have to trade a forward to get Doan.
-
He's played well, but how many undersized forwards should we keep in our bottom 6? Hudler, Mursak, Helm and Connor. Can you see those guys wearing a bigger team down physically in a seven game playoff series? If they have a bigger forward there to complement them they do, but not if they're all dressed together at the same time. Someone is gonna have to sit out or be traded (Hudler). 15,000th post. :!:

And I still can't get over Jason Williams paying homage to Steve Yzerman and manning the powerplay point. Classic.
-
I thought he was going to fall down.
-
Jason Williams playing the point on the powerplay. And wearing Yzerman's number.
-
Pens defense is making us look silly right now. Reminding me of the 2009 Finals. Wings are gonna have to dig deep and actually dump pucks in and win board battles. We're not playing the Jets tonight. That fancy s*** isn't going to work every shift.
-
Hopefully. Except we really don't know what we have in Commodore. He hasn't looked great in his career recently. I want to see what he can give us and whether he has anything left. Wow, I didn't know Kindl has become "untouchable" on these forums for even a few games. Fine, just sit Ericsson. As if I'd have a problem with him being the scratch.
-
Well, Ericsson has been downright s***ty, yet he got a big contract in the offseason and continues to suck. Still, Commodore sits behind him. I do question some of the evaluation of talent on this organization to still dress that guy every night. I don't see anything wrong at all with my assessment. I'm not saying Commodore should permanently be dressed, but get him some games here and there, while sitting guys we can afford to sit. I'm not saying we should sit Lidstrom or Kronwall to play Commodore.

I heard GM Dean Lombardi flew to Boston, and blamed the team for the firing. He got called out on the NHL Network for not taking any responsibility on himself as well. I honestly thought they'd be better. They made the playoffs the last two seasons, and made moves to get even better in the offseason. I know they have some injuries, but there's too many underperforming players right now.
-
Those numbers are barely decent. He's been just OK. Certainly doesn't show that he can't be sat for a few games along with Ericsson. Just rotate them to keep Commodore fresh for when he has to come in during an injury. I'm not saying we should send Kindl to the minors.
-
Yeah, that's true. They could rotate him with Ericsson and Maxim Kuzne......I mean Kindle.
-
One thing is for sure, it's unlikely he'll ever be the same again. I can't see him coming back and never having any setbacks when it comes to concussions and headaches. He couldn't even make it for a month after having a whole year off. And the hits he took weren't even that severe. Many players have had their careers end early, but this could potentially be the worst such example. Maybe in any sport. We're talking about a guy who was on pace to finish his career as a top 10 all time player.
-
It's not a stretch to say that we will have an injury on defense at some point. Commodore will play again. No reason to do anything with him.

The last two goalies the Wings had play in the ASG, were Ozzie in 2008 and Hasek in 2002. Both of those seasons we had enforcers. Also, those were our last two Cup runs. You were trolling, but your post was actually right.
