Are you competing with eva now? Ryan and the Ducks are off to a bad start, but let's not get carried away. He's put up great numbers in the past few seasons. Also, Datsyuk has been our best forward this season, not Filppula. Yeah, Iginla is aging, but our window to win the Cup is closed when Lidstrom retires. It'd be worth making a gamble for one good final Cup run. I just don't want us to take the same roster into the playoffs again and get beat. We have plenty of cap space to make a move.

San Jose and Boston are the teams we match up the worst with. Honestly, you never know, though. The Wings have lost to some pretty mediocre teams in the playoffs before. Maybe not with this group, but it can happen. I thought we'd match up well with Edmonton in 2006 or Anaheim in 2003, and look what happened. Still, San Jose is the easiest answer because of the last two years.

He's not one of our top 3 forwards. Those are the only untouchable forwards on this roster. Since when was a guy that plays on the second line and doesn't get paid a lot of money untouchable? We scored a ton of goals last year as well. That has nothing to do with my argument. Why even bring that up? I'm looking into the future and not just getting blindly excited about a regular season winning streak. We always score a lot of goals in the regular season. The last couple of playoffs our secondary scoring hasn't been good. Filppula has actually played well in those playoffs, but it hasn't been enough because we haven't scored enough key goals. Trading him away in order to increase our chances at winning a Cup by getting a guy like Iginla or Parise is not unwise. In fact, it's a no-brainer. Of course it won't be easy because other pieces will have to be involved. If you want a lot, you have to give up something of value in return. That's how it works. However, if you want another loss to San Jose in the second round, don't make any "important" changes to the team. Just add a depth defenseman at the deadline and maybe a bottom six Kyle Calder type forward . See how far that gets us. Flip is not going to continue scoring more goals than Z. I don't expect that to last. If that lasts, we have bigger problems on our hands with Zetterberg.

I still say every game should only have 2 points on the line. Either one team gets both points, or they each get a point (a tie). The OT loss and shootout points need to go away. Basically, get rid of the shootout. Handing out 3 points for a win will just balloon everyone's point totals some more.

Too many blind homers here who don't understand how the NHL front office works. Filppula playing well does indeed increase his trade value. That doesn't mean he will definitely be traded, but it does mean he's the centerpiece of any "big" trade Holland makes. We can't trade Zetterberg, Datsyuk or Franzen. Our other forwards are undesirable if we're talking about a blockbuster deal for a Parise or Iginla. No one will want Cleary or Hudler for that deal. Also, we're not trading Kronwall or Lidstrom. It's nice how some of you here act like high school cheerleaders and don't do much thinking when it comes to supporting a player, but you need to get real. Filppula is not an untouchable player. If he's untouchable, no one will want to trade with us. Then we'll go into the playoffs with the exact same roster as the last two seasons. And then we can all cheer Filppula on as he has another good playoff and yet get eliminated in the second round again. Sometimes I wonder if some people here love certain players before their love for the team. Edit: Forgot about Stuart. If he truly doesn't feel like re-signing, we may as well ship him to CA. Unfortunately, his stock has dropped this season.

Is this a Van Damme movie? Retribution for your brother? Sure, I'd do something if I was Miller. Kind of like Domi on Samuelsson. Lucic deserves nothing better than a cheapshot in return.
-
Good to see Kassian getting some time in the NHL.
-
Why is it Columbus/Detroit, and not Nashville/Detroit? They're closer to the Southeastern Division teams. Columbus shouldn't even be considered here. And what about Quebec or Hamilton? If they get teams, that throws everything for a loop in a few seasons.
-
Right, I'm sure that's what they'll vote on.
-
Why did Ilitch feel confident in Bettman's promises? It's up to the owners who moves where. They do the voting. Not Bettman.
-
When I typed Filppula, did that appear as Datsyuk or Zetteberg on your computer, by any chance? I'm a little confused. He's not even one of our top 3 forwards. Guys like him are the ones that usually get traded. The ones we can't trade are Pavel and Hank. Even Franzen most likely. That's how trades work if you want something good in return. And I'm not talking about adding depth. People are throwing around names like Parise and Iginla. How else can we acquire them?
-
Like I said, good for him and our options for the future. And if I'm a dumbass, I'd hate to think what that makes some other people around here. Or maybe I'm a dumbass for even responding to you. Most likely.
-
Payback for that embarrassment they laid on us in 2010. Or was it last year?
-
Of course they wouldn't, but that's not how it works. We've had hot regular seasons before, and even good winning streaks early last year. I just don't understand how people expect this team to improve or make deadline deals, if we're not willing to trade anyone. Filppula is the likeliest choice. No one will want Hudler or Ericsson. Him playing well is good for any deadline deals. Increases his value and our trading assets. So many stubborn minded people around here living in denial. Like trying to reason with a door.
-
Forget it GMR, people here don't like reality. They think we can beat San Jose this time around and beat the Pens, without having to improve our team whatsoever at the deadline. Just trot out the same lineup into the playoffs from the last two seasons.
-
Huh? We're not playing the Bruins tonight. Too late for revenge.
-
No, I was right smartass. His trade value is skyrocketing!
-
If Filppula keeps playing like this, he may wind up the Flames #1 center by the end of the season. Good for him.
-
Wow, even Filppula is scoring tonight. MillerTime?
-
Too easy. Buffalo has the kind of team we should roll over. A small, slightly skilled team, with no real physicality to it. Wings better keep their feet on the gas pedal here.
-
Who doesn't? Edit: Except for the Pens.
-
He's making me yearn for Maxim Kuznetsov right about now.
-
If Filppula's trade value is going to be higher, he can't keep missing empty nets. Hammerhands.
-
I miss her as well.

Forsberg never scored more than 30 goals in a season. Crosby is the best goal scorer in hockey. Also, Forsberg was better defensively than Crosby is. They are both whiners and divers if that's all you meant.
