Islanders Hosting Party to Celebrate Fight Night
GMRwings1983 replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
I wonder which Islander legends will show up at the party as surprise guests? -
I hate Crosby and wish the league would market other stars, but it would honestly hurt the league if the same thing happens this season. It would be a shame to see his career ruined by this concussion issue, which is greater now in sports than it ever was.
-
Datsyuk. He's a little older, but has elevated his game the last few years. Right now he's the best two-way player in the league and carried the team last year whenever he was in the lineup. Zetterberg is not as good as he was several years ago, imo. His accuracy and goal scoring is down, despite him still being one of the league leaders in shots taken.
-
Really? Is Metal Gear really popular in Finland? I always wonder what games that are popular here are also popular in other countries.
-
I'm surprised so many people chose that option. The biggest deadline move Holland has made in the last 6 or 7 seasons was trading for Brad Stuart. I guess it was a "significant" move, but hardly a huge splash that shook up the league. Based on recent memory, that was maybe the least likeliest option for me.
-
Just thought we'd have a fun prediction thread for the season.
-
Then how did May and Downey make the team? Neither of those players was even on the roster in the summer, if I'm not mistaken. I don't think it'll happen either, but it's happened in recent memory twice. It's not that big a stretch.
-
So no one is voting for Ericsson or the "enforcer" option? Interesting.
-
Nah, I like my option better. How about Filppula not hitting the glass with every other shot? We'd finally see that Zetterberg/Hudler/Datsyuk line you've been raving about.
-
Point is that Hudler wasn't on the 3rd line all year. Those point totals you gave us are not from him being a 3rd liner the entire season. You just twisted the stats in your favor, disregarding common sense in the process.
-
I love it. But you do realize that you won't be coaching the Wings this season?
-
Reality is very subjective. Stranger things have happened.
-
No, Commodore is not an enforcer. Although that is the one option that's actually happened in recent memory with both Downey and May. I don't think either player was ever slated to be on the roster in early August, hence this time of year. It seems unlikely we'll have one this season, but you never know. But there's plenty of options to choose from.
-
And has possible mob connections.
-
Sure thing. This trade would finally silence those posters who complain about us not having enough toughness on the roster.
-
His infamous "100 point pace" happened when he was playing with Datsyuk and Cleary on the top line. I wouldn't call him a true 3rd liner last season, with that fact and the powerplay time he got. Except he wasn't always a third liner. See my post above. Hudler got time on the powerplay and played a while with Datsyuk.
-
I was going to start a thread similar to this, but with a whole different twist. As for the spirit of this thread, I can see any of those things as potentially happening. I'm a little worried about Franzen's health, so I don't know about him scoring 40 goals. Hudler scoring 50 points will depend on how much icetime he gets and with which linemates.
-
The fight was a draw. Perry certainly didn't win it.
-
You want an autograph?
-
Carcillo is not 37 years old. That was a misprint by them. As for him naming names, that's kind of funny. There's many players around the league that would mention his name as one of the most unlikeable players around as well.
-
I don't make the stereotypes, but they are out there. People do consider Kovalev to be a stereotypical Russian hockey player, and it's a shame. There's too many players who have given a bad name to players like Datsyuk and Ovechkin, who play hard on every shift. From everything I've heard about the older generation Russian players, no one would ever question their commitment to every game. Of course, they never had a chance to be spoiled or lazy. And I've called plenty of North American players lazy before. This doesn't just apply to foreign players. You could say there's more lazy North American players now then there used to be, for many of the same reasons. However, when a foreigner does it, even more people will complain about it or point it out. That's the way it goes in life. Kovalev being lazy will be treated worse by the hockey media than a North American player being lazy, because there's a lot of Don Cherry's out there. He's just more vocal than anyone else.
-
I guess you weren't really complaining, but even so, your statement was off the mark. Nobody here is overhyping him. Certainly not by 10 times.
-
Well, playing hockey was part of their duty as members of the Soviet Army team. That was their service to the nation. So, just like being in the military. They certainly had fame in their country, but not the rewards and riches that athletes have now. These guys weren't exactly set for life upon retirement from hockey.

Carolina's "rose" logo looks like s***. Anaheim's is ever worse, because they don't even have a real logo.
