Not missing Abdelkader or Helm. They should keep sitting. It's unfortunate this team is saddled with their contracts. Bring back Gary Thorne and Bill Clement. No offense to Doc, but he doesn't have Thorne's great voice.

Delvecchio won several Lady Byng trophies (for what that trophy is worth). He was a good centerman, but not as good as Mikita or Beliveau, who were more highly regarded in his own era. Fedorov would rank below those players as well. As I've said before many times (and probably even in this thread), I would have Red Kelly and Ullman in the rafters. Both Lindsay and Sawchuk played at other places as well, and the Red Wings' rivals opponents to boot. Yet their numbers are retired. I'd retire those players first before retiring Fedorov.

So true. No denying the game was more fun back then. Generational talent from North America, new blood from Europe, and not as many teams to spread all the talent across. Also, there was a lot more fighting and more scoring. The game isn't as exciting now. It doesn't help that there's so many teams in the league that no one cares about, which don't draw any fans or TV ratings. Yeah, there's more parity, but the league is too watered down.

The better question is, how are Arizona, Florida, and Carolina still functioning as NHL franchises? Those teams should all relocate.

1. Contract all the teams that weren't in the league prior to 1993. 2. Bring back the divisional names (I liked that idea). 3. Bring back 90's jerseys for each team. Also, the home team goes back to wearing white.

If you're not excited at this roster, you simply don't like hockey. In all honesty, it's pretty sad when the women's team has more big names than the men's team.

If I'm playing a hockey video game and I start Be a GM Mode and pick the Wings, the first thing I'm doing is trying to figure out how to move the entire defensive corps. They're terrible.

Great article. I never really liked Johnson that much because he ended Beukeboom's career with a total cheap shot. He was a great fighter, though. Not surprising that another tough guy was reliant on pain killers and drugs. Their job was nuts.
