Babcock is doing a poor job of motivating and preparing the players game to game, but the players are also to blame for this. They're being paid and are professionals. They should not need motivating. That's especially true when you have a team whose leadership is always talked about as being the best in the league. The leaders aren't cutting it right now, because the team is wildly inconsistent when it comes to effort since November.

The NHL should keep a stat for these, and at the end of the year, give out a "Gordie Howe Award" for the player with the most of these.

I don't think Lidstrom has done a good job of leading this team this season. They've been lazy and unwilling to play consistent or play a full 60 minute game. A leader has to get a team like this off its ass and ready to play every night. Same with the coach. Neither Lidstrom nor Babcock have done that well. -

One or two players can spark an otherwise emptyheaded team, depending on who they are. Doesn't have to be some immensely talented players, but just something to give the team a little fire. It desperately needed it. The ******* Pistons look better at home right now than the Wings do. -

St. Louis Blues powerplay night. A makeup for Chicago Blackhawks powerplay night. On top of that, we suck and couldn't clear the puck to save our lives.
