This team choked in the 2009 Finals, barely beat a Phoenix team they're a lot more talented than in the 1st round last year, and was almost swept out of the 2nd round by the Sharks. I just don't understand where the boredom comes from. They need to play like some team on a mission to regain the Cup. Instead, they're playing like they won it last year and the year before. I don't see the drive right now.

Good showing by Ericsson, although as others have said, it wasn't really a good fight. He needs to throw a little more frequently, and then he'll hopefully develop some killer instinct. He shouldn't have allowed Ott to get back in the fight.

Why are the Wings playing bored? Have we won the last 3 Cups in a row or something. This boredom could lead to an early playoff exit if they aren't careful.

I agree and as I've told you before, I'm getting a little skeptical about him getting boxing lessons and all that crap. He looked more impressive a few years ago, when he was hitting everything in sight. He hasn't looked all that willing to fight, especially when Stuart was hit with a cheap shot earlier last month. Maybe a long grinding season is not something he's used to, hence he can't bring the physicality every game. It's different than being called up from the minors and providing spark and energy for a game or two. That's no excuse for his play, but it's likely the reason for his somewhat timid performance this year.

Franzen is just not used to playing a full season. Apparently, he can't play for a long stretch of time at a good level. He's used to a hot streak, a long injury, followed by another hot streak. He's coasting way too often out there. Maybe he's afraid of another concussion so he stays away from the scoring areas.

Like others have said, we won't likely make any significant trade. Holland has gotten kind of lazy the last few years. Just because we won a Cup in 2008 with a similar lineup doesn't mean we shouldn't still be hungry and active. That was 3 years ago. It's not like we don't have any weaknesses. Our defense and goaltending have been glaringly bad this season, despite what homers are saying.

That was a great one too. I remember screaming at Lappy all night during that game. Even after the game I was furious and yelling. My neighbors must have thought I was getting raped. I need to find the GDT of that game in the LGW archives. Probably some interesting stuff posted there.

That fight happened several years before the Cross/Ott fight. Pretty sad how we have to go that far back for memorable Wings fights.

He started the fight well, but lacked that killer instinct to finish Ott off. Cory Cross's beating of Ott still stands as the best Wings fight in recent memory.

Kudos to Ericsson for providing the only thing in the game that wasn't shameful from a Wings perspective.

Most of our players couldn't beat their own dicks. In situations like this, we're totally helpless. Better start diving and hoping the ref calls some penalties against Dallas.
