LOL. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say Rafalski has never been better than Niedermayer. Both guys are known predominantly as offensive defensemen, but Niedermayer is one of the best offensive defensemen ever. If he played in the 80's, he'd have the same kind of monster stats some of the d-men in that era had, especially with his speed. Rafalski was good in Jersey, but not as important as Niedermayer or Stevens.

Typical Red Wings. I was hoping he'd be back next week. Seems like our injured guys always take forever to recover. Must be due to older players taking longer to heal.

He'd make the rafters on most teams. Just because the Wings might or might not retire a player like that doesn't mean other teams have to do it the same way.

He's a future Hall of Famer and has accomplished pretty much everything a player can accomplish (both team awards and individual trophies). If that's not super elite, then what is?

Makes sense. He's one of the 2 or 3 best players they've ever had with Stevens and Brodeur.

By that point we were already in a 3-0 hole. It's hard to win games when in that situation. He played well after the first period, but he didn't help us any with his awful start.

That's where it helps to have a goalie than can make saves while the team is playing poorly. If he played better in the 1st, we'd have won the game after the team woke up and started playing better.

If Ozzie posted in this thread and admitted that we need a goalie, people would still not agree with the major premise. He really needs to get his s*** together.

I think after the 2008 playoffs, a lot of people were expecting him to be a future number 1 defenseman that could contend for the Norris trophy. His play has not really improved over these last few years, and this year it seems to have declined. I don't think benching him would help any, since we're already short on defensemen. If everyone is healthy and he still plays poorly, then maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea.
