I was thinking of prominent players who had some brief stints with franchises you forget they ever played for. Many of these came at the end of that player's career, but some others are early in a career or in the middle. Also, I know Glenn Hall didn't have a bad stint in Detroit, but I alway forget that he played for the Wings at one time. That seems like the last time we scored a goal in the playoffs with the goalie pulled, but I'm not sure. I remember being shellshocked when we scored that goal. It's just not something you expect. I thought we'd be heading home down 3-1, and the series was over. That whole 3rd period, we did s*** offensively, after Homer scored at the end of the 2nd to make it a one goal game. I was pissed at the Wings the whole 3rd period for not doing anything offensively, and then Lang scores a weird goal out of nowhere. Totally classic! The Sharks had several multi-goal leads in that series, and choked it away.

What are the chances NBC televises some preseason games, like they did with the NFL preseason?

Honestly, the loss to the Pens was the worst, and way more disappointing. Hence, I hate them more. The loss in 2007 to the Ducks was tough to take, especially since I think we'd win the Cup if that puck didn't bounce of Lidstrom's stick in game 5. We'd have won that series and handled Ottawa easily in the Finals. Still, for the reasons you described above, plus choking in game 7 at home, make the Pens a team much easier to hate. All the losses are hard to take, though. The one in 1999 was disappointing (up 2-0 against the Dives and heading home. No 3-peat). The embarrassing losses in 2003, 2004 and 2006 also stand out, because we lost to teams we were far more talented than. Also, who can forget about 1996? Maybe that's why I hate every team except the Wings. We have a history in the playoffs with pretty much everyone out West.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

They don't have a true enforcer on their team, so it's not a bad idea for them. Plus, the chicks on the West coast will love him. Sucks that he won't be playing in Detroit next year, though.

He should be paid no less money around the NHL than Lebda is currently set to make.

It's not quite the same thing as scoring a goal. Hasek couldn't fault Hull for anything he did.

There's many instances in NHL history of people becoming friends after not liking each other earlier, or getting into fights with one another. It's not like Salei kidnapped Modano's family at knifepoint in 1999, or anything like that.

I'm sure he's fine staying at home, since this is what he's coming home to.

Why do you think that about Naslund? He did the most he could with the team that he had. They were never going anywhere in the playoffs with Cloutier as their goalie and only a few scorers on the team.

Bieksa wouldn't be a bad choice for captain.

Trottier was a shell of his former self in Pittsburgh, but they did win some Cups with him centering the 3rd line and I think his experience definitely helped that brief dynasty. Reminds me of Modano's potential status here in Detroit next year.

Some really good ones there guys. I totally forgot Belfour with the Sharks. Also, I didn't include Howe's stint in Hartford, because it wasn't all that bad. It's sort of memorable, because of that All Star game in 1980 and because he was in his 50's when he was playing. He played better than any other 51 year old could in the NHL.

I should know the answer to this question better than anyone, since I'm usually one of the catalysts for this kind of stuff. Let's just say I'll be keeping my eye on Hudler and Ericsson.

A good defenseman is more valuable than a good forward, however, Bufflin is not a good defenseman. As others have said, he belongs at forward, especially in front of the net.

Yeah, I know. I once thought about doing a 29 forums in 29 days thing, where I'd try to get banned from all 29 forums around the NHL. Then I found out about this rule on LGW about not trolling on other teams' forums, so I never did it. I wonder why we have a rule on LGW, which controls what members do on other forums? I mean is it really the mods business what I do on the rest of the internet?

Who are these journalists that have Lidstrom above Harvey? Harvey was doing things in his era that no one else came close to. Lidstrom is the best defenseman of his generation, but he's not way above anyone else and isn't doing things that no one else can come close to matching. Harvey was way ahead of his time, and last time I checked, he has more Cups and Norris trophies than Lidstrom. You have to compare the relative eras to see that Harvey is better. People just forget about Harvey way too quickly. Orr is the best ever, though, and I'd like to see any arguments as to how anyone was better than him. I think it is an open and shut case.

Well, he did play in the World Cup of hockey that very summer.

Like I've said before, Bykov carried Lidstrom to a Norris in 2003.
