If I remember correctly, Salei has never been an adept skater, and is known for taking dumb penalties from time to time. Many posters here have adamantly criticized others who have wanted a tough defenseman of some kind, for the same reasons as those I listed above. Yet those same posters have praised Salei without reserve. Hypocrites?

It's easier for younger players to heal. And even those guys have shown rust coming back from injuries in the past. Kronwall was never the same last year after his injury. And I hope to God that he's better defensively than your boy Rafalski. If we were going to sign a Russian, I wish we'd have gone with this man. Yeah, I know Salei is from Belarus, but he did play for Russia once and for all intents and purposes is still somewhat Russian.

Can't believe you only disagreed with me on two of them. MacDonald I thought about, but Iginla has carried that franchise offensively for a long time. I know they haven't gone far in the playoffs, but I don't think his leadership should be questioned. MacDonald played on teams more loaded with talent and other leaders, not that it should diminish his role on that team. That was another close one, but I ultimately chose Iginla.

He missed 56 games last year with a back injury. Also he's 36 years old. I wouldn't call him a soft player, because he is physical, but he never fights and is coming off a serious injury. I guess the Wings figured he's cheap and they didn't want to sign anyone else for some reason. This seems like more of a Babcock move than a Holland one. Also, it's funny how people here are attacking anyone who's willing to disagree with this signing. Apparently we can't have opinions around here anymore. It's not a terrible signing, but not a good one either. Hopefully it'll turn out better than it looks. Kind of like Markov in 2007. The main issue is his health and his age. Those are good issues to worry about.

I think Wendel Clark was their captain in 1993, as an earlier poster said.
-
They're bitter about their team's woes and history since 1967. Sundin is the ideal fall guy.

Maybe Red Kelly's number wasn't retired because he spent a significant amount of time playing for the Leafs. All the players the Wings have retired spent either their entire career, or almost their entire career (like say Howe) playing for the Wings. I don't see them giving it to two players who played a long time with other franchises. We're not the divealanche.

I wouldn't say that. He was a good leader. Naslund too, which is another good Swedish captain, and he's the one I'm surprised no one has argued on me with. I had a hard time choosing between him and Linden.

I picked Sakic for Colorado. I'm not that argumentative. Kariya and Chelios were close ones for me, and Pronger I quickly dismissed when I remembered Sutter's rep as a great leader of the Blues in the 80's. Just going on their reputations for most and the others I just posted my opinion on. I was never in the Wings locker room, but from what I've heard from players and seen on the ice, Yzerman was a pretty good captain. Same with guys like Stevens or Messier. For others it was harder, but if you are a fan of the game's history, you can make educated opinions (or guesses) on those too if you study the history of the game and its players enough.

Forsberg eyeing another NHL comeback?
GMRwings1983 replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
Internet tough guy? I haven't personally attacked anyone here since like 2008. Forsberg couldn't even beat up Larionov back in 97. -
No, but the teams he played on weren't as good as some of those Leafs teams Gilmour had, with few exceptions. I just think Sundin was a better captain than him and did more with less, especially in later years in Toronto. In any case, Armstrong has to be the best Leafs captain ever, even if people remember Gilmour or Clark more nowadays. I was talking about all-time Captains and not say the last 20 years or so.

Forsberg eyeing another NHL comeback?

I'm pretty sure anyone (including you) could take Forsberg. -
Armstrong captained the Leafs during their best ever years and was a great leader for them. Gilmour wasn't even the best Captain of the last 20 years for them, with Sundin and Wendel Clark being ahead of him. He captained them nowhere. Don't see how you can make that call. As for Modano, he was only a captain for like a year or so, while Hatcher was the captain for a long time, on a team full of veteran players like Carbonneau, Hull, Zubov, Skrudland and Modano. The fact that he was captain instead of those guys shows a little about his leadership skills and what his teammates thought of him. If Modano was a good captain, he wouldn't have been stripped of it for Brenden Morrow after such a short time. However, if you agree with me on everything else, then I shouldn't be complaining. I've never met anyone who can agree with me on 28 out of 30 things.

So has my dog. Should we sign him?

Joe Sakic was a class act, and not a diving little ***** ***** who likes to draw too much attention to himself, and not back up his actions. And I'm not a Canadian on this board. -
As Mors said, this would be a waste of time. We need a physical 6th defenseman, and not a tall skinny puss.

What Current NHL Players are Locks for the Hall of Fame?

Andreychuk will get into the Hall of Fame. Too many goals and points not too, especially with Dino getting in being a similar player. -

Well, Henrik Sedin is a 1-time winner too. He probably won't get in. I don't see any such precedent possibly being set for guys who have only played 5 years. That would lessen the standards of the HOF drastically. A guy like Mike Gartner actually had a long and good career, and not just a flash in the pan. Although most Hart Trophy winners are in the HOF, winning the Hart has never been a precedent for making it in. -

There are no guys I mentioned that have only had a few good seasons. All those players have been good for quite some time. Don't know why everyone is discussing Lindros, since this thread wasn't about him nor did I ever mention him. I was talking about current NHL players only. Lindros isn't even a good comparison, since he's not in the HOF yet, especially since the last few classes have been too stacked for him to get in. -

If Ozzie is a question mark, Khabibulin is a no. One Cup isn't enough to get him in. He's had a good career, but not a Hall of Fame career. Were you anticipating egroen's post before he made it? No they wouldn't. They've both played like 5 years, which would be way less than Lindros played. Same with Cam Neely. That would be too unprecedented to get them in after such a short time. -

Yeah, that game 7 loss to the Pens may end up costing Ozzie a spot in the Hall of Fame. No way they could keep him out with 3 Cup wins as starter. -

Arnott? He's had a good career, but I don't think he's even close to being on the fence. Why do you think he may be on the fence if he retired today? St. Louis is a late bloomer, but he hasn't even hit 700 points yet, and I don't think he'd get the special "Cam Neely Exemption" -
I won't until I can successfully order my Yan Golubovsky jersey first.

3 Cups as starter would look better than 2, but I don't think that's a prerequisite to make it in. Recchi has too many points not to eventually get in. Almost 1500 if I'm not mistaken. -

Yeah, I thought about that, which is why I gave Iginla the question mark. I just think a goal scorer will get more leniency and Iginla doesn't have any kind of choker label attached to him. His teams haven't won in the playoffs because they haven't been good, and not because they choked. Iginla is a close one for me.
