What Current NHL Players are Locks for the Hall of Fame?
GMRwings1983 replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Yeah, I was only intending NHL players, or else there's a few other guys I'd mention. -
Why can't they just get rid of the instigator rule and call it a day at these meetings?
-
Hope it turns out as well for them as it did for Colorado in 2004. The "Diving Duo" could be back together yet again.
-
Lemieux for me is the obvious choice. Lindros too, because of his size and finesse.
-
2002 as others have said. Signing three Hall of Famers when they were still damn good players was amazing. Especially the Hasek signing. Also, how about 2008, or has everyone forgotten already? We brought back most of our Cup roster and added Hossa. Didn't turn out as well in the long run, but the offseason itself was really special.
-
I miss Lilja too.
-
Where's Mike Commodore when you need him?
-
Why couldn't those idiots just wear the same jerseys they did in the 80's. They wore those jerseys a lot last year and it looked great. Why the urge to do something idiotic when a special event comes up? That being said, they should play against the Canucks, who should bust out the Flying-V.
-
We should have signed Shaq instead of Modano. Turns out he's still chasing another championship as well, on someone else's coattails.
-
I also wouldn't mind seeing a bit more grit, especially since it can be had rather cheaply. Grit on defense is what I want more than anything else. Even more than having a gritty forward. Oh and it's shameful how so many idiots attacked the OP just from posting his opinion on what he thinks the team wanted. You guys need to get a life if you're mad at his post.

Zetterberg Franzen Downey Hudler Datsyuk Holmstrom I can't envision anyone else doing it for sure. Maybe Bertuzzi.
-
Vandermeer and Franzen are good friends, so I'm sure they'll love to play together.
-
He did fine with Hudler in the 2008 playoffs, when Maltby and McCarty were also playing with them. Hudler will score most of his points on the PP anyway, and not on the 3rd line where he'll have less time and space.
-
As I stated in another thread, a Hudler/Helm/Cleary 3rd line would have been sufficient. Signing Modano makes us deeper, but at the expense of other needs. Just my opinion.
-
We can't have the best of both worlds. The salary cap has prevented that. Spending money on Modano does lessen the amount of cash we'd have to spend on defensemen, which is not a position we're deep at. I don't understand why a Cleary/Helm/Hudler line wasn't enough for people to be happy? Apparently we also needed to sign Modano.

69 Nobody in the NHL wears it.

Our 3rd pairing was not very good last year. Hell our 2nd pairing had trouble last year, even when healthy. It's probably the biggest weakness on the team right now, that's why some of us wouldn't mind seeing it adressed. I like Janik, but he only played when others were hurt last year, and I didn't see any indication that the team intends to use him frequently alongside Ericsson. A little more shot blocking and physicality can go a long way for this team on that 3rd pairing.
-
And just what are we going to trade Meech for? A 6-pack of Bud Light?
-
A third pair defenseman is more important than a 3rd line forward. They usually get more icetime than 3rd line forwards, especially since teams dress half as many D-men than forwards. Your post greatly diminished the importance of a 3rd pair defenseman and overrated the role someone like Modano will play, when we have plenty of other guys who have shown they can play on the 3rd line, like say Helm who'll be demoted to the 4th line now. And my post wasn't just specific to Sutton. I was talking more about a physical defenseman who's big and can move bodies from the crease. Doesn't have to be Sutton necessarily, or someone who makes $2 million a year. It's just an blank that needs to be filled.
-
Probably no one, but you have to remember that line combos get changed all the time, so there's no telling what our 3rd line will be two weeks into the season. In any case, we have a really deep top 9 group of forwards, in terms of talent.
-
Too bad 40 is taken, or else Modano could wear the number for his age.
-
Janik I'm not opposed to, but he's not really as solid as Sutton is, and also not as feared a hitter. I think it'll be interesting to see who ultimately gets that 3rd pairing spot, but it needs to be someone who's physical and can move people in front of the net. We don't have anyone who can do that right now consistently, or someone who has a mean streak of some kind.
-
Why not? We're not running out of numbers like Montreal is. I just think it's funny that you picked number 91 over any other number Modano could have wore. Why not another number mindfly? Seems too ironic to me. It's basically a blatant attack on Fedorov that you picked that number, especially since it's not common around the NHL

Yeah, I don't remember Lilja being a great skater, and he contributed greatly to us over the last few years, especially in our Cup run. If Crymson thinks a player like Meech will do the job just as well, he's in for a bad surprise. Ericsson hasn't yet shown that he can be physical enough on a consistent basis to be our physical 6th D-man either. The financial reasons I explained a few posts above. We've had money that we could have spared, if not on Sutton, then another physical 3rd pair defenseman. I'm not saying we should have pursued Shea Weber, but someone cheaper was certainly feasible.
