Fedorov is one of the 5 best Wings players ever, which is what the whole retired numbers thing is about. Has nothing to do with all time league standings. I'm guessing you became a Wings fan the moment we started loading up on Swedes, and not when Fedorov was here and beloved by Wings fans. Giving Madonna his number, let alone a number Madonna never wore, would be a slap in the face to Fedorov. Why not give him Williams number? How many players in the NHL wear number 91, for us to award it to a player than hasn't wore that number in his entire NHL career, let alone when it's a number one of our best players of all time wore?

Are you ever gonna stop hating around here? At least my complaints deal with the Wings, and not attacking other posters all the time like you do. You really need to take care of your anger management issues instead of telling me what I should post. Sutton isn't someone we need to skate well. He'd be here for different reasons, which you obviously can't fathom with your limited knowledge of hockey. You're the biggest whiner on LGW by consistently calling out posters who want to sign tougher players for reasons we think would benefit the team. Your post was just a bad attempt to attack me instead of saying anything bad about Sutton's game that actually makes sense. As for his salary, the money we'll pay to Modano or Maltby or whatever other lower line players (not Helm) that we've signed or will sign, could have been better served by paying a player like Sutton.

Why can't he wear number 9? Did someone in Detroit wear that number before I started watching hockey in 1993?
-
Thanks for reminding me why I'd rather watch Al Jazeera television at this point in my life over espn.
-
I'm glad we didn't sign him. We don't need a big, physical defenseman that can clear the crease. We're already awesome at that, as we showed in the playoffs last year. What we really need is a 40 year old winger to play on our "Grind Line" and an almost 40 year old winger who should have retired several years ago when he stopped becoming useful to us.
-
Will espn carry a press conference of this and call it "The Decision"?
-
I probably hate him more than all these other posters combined. Since I can't put it in words, I won't even try.
-
I think the next one they're showing is 1995, so I'm not sure too many people here want to revisit that game.
-
They've been doing this for several weeks now, going back to 1981 I believe, and I feel kind of bad that I keep forgetting to tune in.
-
Niemi himself is a good example of how you don't need a top named goalie nowadays to win the Stanley Cup. The guy kind of defeats his own purpose based on what he accomplished last year.
-
In the long term, Doughty is obviously going to be more useful than Lidstrom, who could be in his last year, but from a loyalty and class standpoint, this would be one of the worst trades in league history.

Blog: The Blackhawks still have serious financial difficulties

Oh I'm not saying they'll repeat, but I think they'll fare better than those others teams in the next few years. I may be wrong, but I think they'll be a good team, although not as good as last year. -
Why aren't the Florida Panthers on this list? I thought everyone hated them.

Actually, I think the Hawks will still have a good team, because their core and stars are together. You obviously need good role players in order to win in the playoffs, but good teams have shown that role players can be plugged into a good system and still succeed. I think they'll be able to do that, so lets not get too excited about them being f***ed or anything. -
Five years ago I wouldn't mind this move, but now, not so much.

The destruction and embarrasment of Scott Parker stands out for me. Some others are: The 2 infamous fights with Domi The 2 fights with Coxe His fight with Cochrane The game where he was willing to take on the entire St. Louis blues team on the ice. Right before the infamous Cheveldae/Joseph fight.

Way to stay on topic there ace. At least you're not biased against me or anything. Didn't realize I was supposed to make great ideas. I thought that's what all those idiots in Washington were for.
-
If Williams and Maltby can make the team, why can't Downey? He at least gives us something that we don't already have. What did those players add to the team last year?
-
Niedermayer was the worst winner in history, because of his stats and the fact that he isn't nearly as good as Stevens was in 2000. He won because no one else really stood out that year for the Ducks in terms of obvious Smythe winner. Alfredsson had a great playoff, but losing in 5 games in the Finals and doing jack in the series wasn't going to garner a win in a losing effort.
-
No Lidstrom scored a lot of points in his 2002 Smythe year. Stevens, however, did it entirely on his defensive play. At least statistically speaking, because leadership isn't judged by stats and that probably had something to do with it as well.
-
People forget what a great offensive player he was in his prime. It's only in his later years that he became known as just a defensive defenseman. Also, I can't think of any players who won the Conn Smythe Trophy on defensive play alone throughout the playoffs. He did that in 2000.
-
As I've said before, a US vs. Canada annual game should replace the Winter Classic.
-
2002 That was a fun run and a special roster of players.
-
This means we can win the Cup again like we did in 2008.

Well said, Ken.
