Maybe he'll go to the Flyers and come just short of winning the Cup and Conn Smythe trophy.
-
He looked really happy and cleaned up on that ice dancing show he did with Domi.
-
So does this mean Zetterberg will no longer be the ladies man on the team?
-
This hurts our chances at landing a big grinding forward and a physical defenseman. When healthy, scoring is the last of our concerns, so I'm not so sure if he gives us anything we don't already have. Doesn't exactly make us a younger team either.

I guess his willingness to play hockey trumps his desire to be a top 6 forward and to finish his career as a Star. I don't know. If I was him I'd retire as a Star and go home to Willa Ford. Oh look, Willa doesn't agree with me.

This is horrible news, and I just had chills reading it when I logged onto LGW. RIP Probie.

How wont the Wings be the favorites to win the west?
GMRwings1983 replied to wingsownnhl43's topic in General
We are the best team in the West. However, the media will once again mention how we're the oldest team in the NHL and how our run is over. We haven't done anything in the offseason to get any younger, so that talk will only get perpetuated further. -
Well, he's only 25, and I don't remember Zetterberg having better playoff numbers when he was 25. Getzlaf has been very solid in the playoffs, and even though Hank has more goals than him, his assist numbers are better in the playoffs per average. In any case, he's a solid playoff performer, and even though Zetterberg has been a beast in the playoffs, several posters here like yourself are discrediting Getzlaf's career and playoff numbers so far. Sadly, there aren't enough posters here to warrant a solid objective argument about who's the better player right now. Many posts have just been passing references about things unrelated to hockey.

You're right when you say stats aren't everything, and we do have a different system, but I just think Getzlaf would dominate no matter what system he was playing in. He's got plenty of intangibles himself. He's not just some scorer who can't do anything else. And Getzlaf is apparently Alexei Yashin in the playoffs? He's been a great playoff performer himself, even though he hasn't played as many games as Hank. Jeez are we talking about the same guy, or is this some guy named Getflaf, like the OP wrote? I don't like him either, but let's not make it sound like he sucks or something. I'm guessing most teams in the league would take him over Hank. That's just my opinion, but I'm sticking to it.

I've already explained above why I think Getzlaf is a great player. You should have read that before overreacting like a baby. Grow up already King Crymson.
-
Getzlaf is one of the 10 or 15 best forwards in the league. And he's always been great in the playoffs. He owned us in the playoffs two years ago if you haven't forgotten already. And he's won as many Cups as Zetterberg has. It's O.K. to like Zetterberg, but your post made it sound like Getzlaf is slightly better than Dan Cleary. That's the kind of homer bias that's getting annoying around here.
-
I would have paid him twice that much. Take that haters.
-
He's got a killer beard, but he's too prone to making mistakes, and I wouldn't say he has a great mean streak. I wouldn't be opposed to it, but he's not my ideal physical D-man back there.
-
Getzlaf had a much better year than Hank and is a younger player with more potential. Hank is 30 years old and it's doubtful that he hasn't hit his peak already. Hank is better defensively, but Getzlaf is more physical and will only improve defensively. Zetterberg has a tendency now to disappear for stretches at a time. I know people here are biased, but Getzlaf was a better player last year than Zetterberg, and even though Hank has had great seasons in the past, we have to go by the most recent outing and also realize that Getzlaf hasn't hit his prime yet. With that said, I'd keep Hank, because I don't like Getzlaf and wouldn't want to see us trade our future captain away. But as far as who the better player is right now, I say it's Getzlaf, and I don't care if every dumb slappy here negs me for actually being objective.

I honestly didn't see this thread until now. Shows you how my week has gone. There's been more moves than I expected, though.

Blackhawks doing their best to embrace change
GMRwings1983 replied to redwingmachine's topic in General
This is what really sucks about them winning the Cup. They had to gut their team no matter what, and it would have been great if they'd gut their team after coming so close to the Cup and not winning. Now, they'll at least have 50 years to talk s*** again about how great they are. -
I don't feel sorry for any man who's hooked up with Angelica Bridges and Kylie Bax. Someone will sign him for far less money than what he's made so far. He'll just have to get used to the paycut.
-
TSN still thinks that Calgary is a team built for the playoffs, despite losing in the first round for like 4 straight years. Vancouver has never been the team to beat in its history, and it won't be any different next season, unless they win the Presidents Trophy going into the playoffs.
-
Yeah, he's hurt too often for me to want him on the Wings. I like his style of play, but he's just too big a risk with his health.
-
Amazing how quickly he deteriorated after that Cup run in 2006 where he was a beast.
-
First we lose Downey, then we lose May, and now we're going to lose Lilja. This sucks.
-
Any team with Kirk Maltby on it is good enough to win the Stanley Cup.
-
Read my sig. This question is a no-brainer.
-
That wasn't our playoff lineup.

Pretty disappointing World Cup for the USA. We only won 1 out of 4 games, and that was in the last minute against Algeria. Considering the mediocrity of the opposition, we should have finished better. Instead, it doesn't look like America is any better at soccer now than it was in the last World Cup or the one before that.
