Sandstrom wasn't a star player that was going Cup hunting with different teams every year. As a star player, Hossa doesn't deserve the Cup. He disappears in big games.

He doesn't deserve the Cup based on the way he's played. The only time in his career he had a great playoff was for the Pens in 2008.

My biggest point is that Ovechkin is asked to carry a franchise, which is something Pavel could never do with his personality and unselfish demeanor. He's never had that kind of pressure on him. He has other reliable playoff performers here in Detroit. Also, it's interesting how early this season, everyone on LGW would have said Ovechkin is better, but I see the tide changing around here now.

Say what you want about Pronger, but he's been the most consistent player not named Lidstrom over the last decade or so. Always a force in the playoffs and in the clutch, about to go to his 3rd final with three different teams since leaving St. Louis (just like Hossa), and has won everything there is to win. You have to think he's a candidate for the Conn Smythe too, if they win the Cup. He's a piece of s***, but it's hard to question his ability and track record. Montreal will have played 21 games if they reach the Finals. They wouldn't have a prayer against Chicago after playing so many games. This isn't the NBA playoffs where a team gets a week off before every game seemingly.

Well, that wouldnt' be hard considering how San Jose got swept. I thought we'd match up well with San Jose based on our previous dominance of them, and look how that went for us. Before the playoffs, I wanted us to play Chicago because I thought it'd be a good matchup for us. However, based on what happened with us and San Jose, we probably would lose to Chicago. Better to lose to the Sharks than to the Hawks when it's all said and done with.

Never liked Clark. He always jumped his opponents like a cheap ass. Still, his win percentage is amazing and he did beat up on many enforcers. However, the reason most people don't think of him as a top 10 guy is because there's too many weak names on his card and he didn't exclusively fight the toughest guys in hockey. He never really had to be an enforcer that fought ever night. Punching bag who cheated to win his fights. s***ty win percentage at the end of the day. Did have great punching power, but he'd have a hard time cracking the top 10 fighters of the 90's list in my book. Worrell was more of a hugger than a fighter. And he had no power for his size. Not many KO's and TKO's in the NHL level. He was a top 5 fighter in his day, but not really top 5 all-time.

These Wings fans rooting for the Hawks are not "real" Wings fans.

Datsyuk is the most complete, but Ovechkin is a scoring machine and is one of the 2 best players in hockey. Kind of hard to say that he's not the best Russian player in the league. Not his fault he didn't play with the 2002 Wings or with Lidstrom and Zetterberg in the playoffs. He has a lot more pressure on him than what Datsyuk has ever had in Detroit. Other Caps players just let him down in the postseason these last few years.

Yep. People gave you a lot of s*** in this thread, but at the end of the day you were right. Heatley was the same way. They both choked in the clutch. When your team goes down, you don't want the star players to leave anything on the ice.

Based on what we've seen in these playoffs, the Sharks no longer need a big name goalie. Nabokov has to go, where they can replace him with nobody Thomas Greiss. Just look at Halak, Leighton and Niemi.

How do you know what we'd have done if not for the officiating? We barely beat a Phoenix team that had no talent and had their captain hurt most of the series. To me the Wings had no consistency in the playoffs and just never looked in sync. Too many turnovers from our defense and no help in secondary scoring. Also, the PK is actually part of the team believe it or not. Remember the BS penalty at the end of the 2nd period against Phoenix in game 7? Well, we killed off that 5 on 3, and Stuart scored on a breakaway to ice the game. That's called overcoming adversity. We couldn't make any big plays at all against San Jose. If we were better than San Jose, we'd have won. I believe that. Officiating or not. Your points just aren't very strong, and from this post it seems like you have nothing more to say.

More blind homerism. That's part of hockey. You have to overcome that adversity. Had Howard not let in softies in game 3, had Flip not sucked in the series, had the Wings PK not been inept, and had our 3rd and 4th lines not been useless, then we may have won the series. The Sharks were better than us. The Wings deserved to win the series like I deserve to wake up tomorrow next to a young Brigitte Bardot.

Maybe, but the better team is winning this series. The better team won the last series too. It's hard to swallow that the Sharks are better than us, but it's true. This season they're better than us.

Chicago has been jobbed a lot in this series also, but they've made it not matter based on the way they played. Like I've said a million times around here, Detroit just couldn't overcome any adversity in the series. You have to be able to do that in spite of the officiating. That's why Chicago is going to the Finals this year and we're not.

I doubt it has ever been done. Rhett Warrener lost in 3 Finals with 3 different teams, but not consecutively Let's just hope Hossa loses again. That would be hilarious. He'll probably join the Capitals next year.

If heads didn't roll last year, what makes you think they will now after making it 2 rounds further? I think most hockey people favored Chicago to beat them this series. The boy cried wolf too many times for San Jose to be favored. And they are playing like they're content just to be here.
