2010 Winter Olympics - Canada vs United States (Group A)
GMRwings1983 replied to redwings8831's topic in General
Are you telling me more Americans would watch ice dancing than watch their own freaking team play a hockey game against their neighboor up north? If so, then Americans need to get their heads out of their baseball loving asses. -

The Crosby and Ovechkin hype is getting absurd. Today during the Russia game, he was all they talked about. It's like Ovechkin is the only player playing for team Russia that's any good. At this point, it's no different with him than with Crysby. -

So NBC airs the Russian game but not the American game? Nice ******* patriotism. -

I want to see Backes break Crysby's leg, just like Bobby Clarke on Kharlamov. -
Wow, that's even worse than not showing the game. Showing a taping of it, even though the game is played in North America is embarassing.

There wasn't much ambiguity in my post. I made my point clear.

2010 Winter Olympics - Russia vs Czech Republic (Group B)
GMRwings1983 replied to redwings8831's topic in General
Everyone makes the tournament in a way. The top 4 teams I believe will get a bye. The remaining 8 will be re-seeded 5-12, and will each play one game to advance to the quarterfinals. That's what I think is the system. I'm not sure, though. It's definitely not what you said, because there's only three groups. This way there would be six teams to advance. This way, it'll probably be the three group winners, plus the team with the next highest point total or goal differential. Actually, wait, I found the link. http://www.nbcolympics.com/hockey/insideth...sid=259033.html -

If Russia loses, they'll wind up 3rd in the group. Who would have thought that before the Olympics? -
Great for Weinhandl and Hornqvist. Sweden's coach apparently adheres to the Dave Lewis school of coaching. NO LINE CHANGES!

Double post.

NHL network from 2:00 ET to 8:00 ET. They're showing all 3 games according to the schedule.

This women's hockey tournament would have been better had Canada and the U.S. played a 7 game series.
-
Maybe, but I'm just tired of constantly hearing about it. There have been other important moments in hockey history that don't get very much recognition. Instead of covering the current American team, NBC feels like it has to talk about the 1980 team again. No wonder no one in America knows anything about hockey nowadays. NBC has done a poor job of marketing its own country's team. The other American athletes have been talked about at nausea, such as that Lindsey Vonn chick, or that Apollo Ono guy, or that red headed pot smoker dude. As for American hockey coverage. Well, let's talk about 1980.
-
Dude, that was the best hockey I've ever seen. Two Hall of Fame rosters going at each other. Unlike most international play, this was as physical as you'll ever see a hockey series. Lindros was a beast in that series, and I can't wait to watch it. As for 1980, I get tired of hearing about that over and over. It was a fluke win and it's been beaten like a dead horse. Those guys have been interviewed a hundred times every year about that. What has really changed that we need to hear another interview of it?

Pavel has looked quiet so far, which is unfortunately indicative of they way he's played since the last playoffs. I want to see him dangle with the puck more frequently.
-
As I said last game, Datsyuk isn't used to not having the puck. Both Ovechkin and Semin are puckhogs. With that said, Pavel has to be more aggressive and start showcasing his skill set. It's like he's too humble to try and take over out there with all that talent around him.

As long as you have Fox News, you'll be saved.

NHL Rule Change Thoughts while following Olympics
GMRwings1983 replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
I'd get rid of the shootout altogether and award teams 2 points for a regulation or OT win, and 0 points for a regulation or OT loss. If there's a tie, each team gets 1 point. If you're not good enough to win in regulation or in OT, you don't deserve the 2 points. A tie just suggests that neither team was good enough to win. Nothing wrong with that. Ironically, if the NHL borrowed the Olympic shootout format, we could just have Datsyuk shoot over and over again. That would help us. The no-touch icing I've never really had an opinion on. It makes no difference to me what they do with that. -
2010 Winter Olympics - Finland vs Germany (Group C)
GMRwings1983 replied to redwings8831's topic in General
I'm tired of every game starting out 3-0. In the future, they need to allow less jobber teams into the tournament. So far there's only been two competitive games, and only one of them was between good teams. -
Czechs v Latvia...or watch our prospects in the AHL?

2010 Winter Olympics - Belarus vs Sweden (Group C)

A team with Sweden's talent putting Hornqvist and Weinhandl on the top two lines definitely raises some eyebrows. Maybe they want better balance, but so far their firepower hasn't really shown up, even though they played the two weakest opponents they'll face. BTW, Sweden has the best uniforms in the tournament. Seems like every other team wears some shade of red. -
f*** this. Every year that he stays on the team, he hinders Lebda's growth as a player. Retire already, Nick!
-
Hey, at least his team finally won a shootout even with the blown lead.

Why didn't Jiri Hudler make Czech's Olympic Team?
GMRwings1983 replied to 13dangledangle's topic in General
Exactly. Babcock and Holland dropped him on the lower lines, and eventually let him go to Russia without much resistance. Seems like the posters here, eva most notably, have overrated this guy beyond what the hockey minds think about him.
