I actually agree. If a team isn't good enough to win in regulation or in OT, they don't deserve 2 points. Why should they get an extra point for winning some silly shootout. There's nothing wrong with ties, and quite frankly, a shootout is the same thing as a tie in theory. It's just that someone gets an extra point for the nonsense. A tie just means neither team was better than the other. That's why both teams should get 1 point for being equal.

Doubt it. This team looks tired right now and have been badly outshot and outplayed the last few games. This road trip is coming at a bad time, especially against good teams who are playing really hot right now.

Sadly yes. Zetterberg is useless in shootouts, and Williams probably has a better career percentage in shootous. This team just sucks in shootouts, period. I don't think it matters who we use, becaue we've had a lot of talent over the years, but have never been a good shootout team.

Seriously, for a team that has guys coming back from injuries who need to get back into the groove, and a team that's been inconsistent all year, these Olympics are a terrible break. It's hard to get team chemistry back when your best players have to go away for two weeks to play in a tournament where they'll have distractions that are unrelated to the Red Wings. Not to mention, our older players will have to play many games in few nights, as the Olympic schedule is laid out that way, and then return back to a team that's in desperation mode for a playoff push. Maybe there's a bright side to this Olympic break as far as the Wings go, but I can't see it. The last thing these players need right now is a two week vacation for the grinders and a two week grind for the star players.

I can't believe these posters are still taking the injury angle. We're almost healthy as a team, yet we got outshot 2 to 1 by both Nashville and Pittsburgh. I suppose when Homer comes back, that's going to stop magically? Why can't people just come to terms with this team not being very good and likely missing the playoffs?

Everything I said was true. Our injured players have returned for the most part. We're better on paper than the other teams in the West the last two weeks, yet, we still lose to those teams and blow leads. The injuries were a good excuse earlier in the season, but it's become apparent recently that this team just isn't that good. Get over the denial.

As I've said all along, the teams ahead of us deserve to get in more than we do. They're beating the best in the East, while we're losing 6-0 against the Islanders. Doesn't help that we can't beat these teams in the West head to head very often. Seems like pretty much everyone in the West is better than us this season. That's a tough pill for some here to swallow, but it's true.

Hasn't Howard faced like over 90 shots the last two games? I'm afraid our defense will fatigue him to death if this keeps up. He needs some kind of break. Next we play San jose, which is another awesome offensive team.

Hopefully, Calgary will have a hard time getting adjusted to the trades at first.

In 02 we already had a playoff spot clinched by this time. Babcock will actually have to be aggressive with the icetime, since our stars are gonna have to carry us in the playoffs. Olympics were fun in 02 and 06, but this season I just feel like this team doesn't deserve a break. A two week vacation is the last thing some of these players need imo.

That's a big IF with this team's fragility. I didn't even mention that in my post, but that's a big factor as well. Also, we're sending more guys than most teams are if I'm not mistaken, so I don't see how this will help us over them. The guys we're sending are older players too, who need the rest. Our younger players will get rest sure, but those guys don't get much icetime anyway.
