Well, I was there about 5 years ago, and I guess for some reason I thought it was a shopping mall, just because the entrance is underground, and so many of Toronto's malls seem to have a similar setup.

Someone told me recently that Stu Grimson apparently became a lawyer after his hockey career, and now practices for a firm in Tennessee. I looked it up and even found a link to his firm's site. Scroll down to the bottom to see his profile. It's kind of funny to see all those names and faces, and then all of a sudden you see "The Grim Reaper's" picture there. WTF? http://kgeb-law.com/attorneys.htm I honestly had no idea that he became a lawyer and can't think of any NHL players who retired and went to law school. There's one guy who'll never face a malpractice suit from an unsatisfied client.

Yeah, I always thought it was kind of strange that the HHOF was inside of a shopping mall.

I agree. These stats are a good example of why we should panic. I mean when Sammy is outscoring the entire Wings team, that's as good a reason to panic as any. Hell has frozen over.
-
Grimson should have played the point on the powerplay. That's why we didn't win the Cup in 1996. Bowman just misused him.
-
You almost saw it at the JLA two years ago too, from what I remember.
-
Oh well, I guess the fake one is as close as I'll ever come to seeing the real Cup.

The Wings look tougher this year than they have in recent memory.

Yeah, but those people never thought having half the team injured would help out on that success. People just wanted a tough guy on the 4th line and a team that would stand up for themselves. I still don't know what you're trying to prove with this argument. Nobody who was pro-enforcer has been proven wrong with anything that they said in the past, based on what's happened this season. -
That's what I always thought before I entered law school. Also, you have to remember my age and that people in school now are younger than they've ever been. It's true that there is a ton of work, but lawyers have more social events then pretty much anybody. You'd be surprised what kind of goofs you can meet in this profession at these social events. As long as they don't act that way during work time, I suppose it doesn't matter. As for Bettman, I honestly didn't know that he was a lawyer. I thought he was just some former NBA exec who hated hockey.

It's good to have fighters and grinders on your hockey team, even if they don't have much skill, but not on the 2nd line. I've always wanted the Wings to have a 3rd and 4th line full of checkers and fighters, but no one here advocated having the top 2 lines full of those players. So anyone blaming this team's success on the fact that they're tougher is crazy. The tough guys are only in the lineup because of injuries and can't be blamed for this team's lack of sucess. You can't blame these guys for not scoring when the top guys aren't putting the puck in the net either. The ideal team has balance of skill and toughness. Like say the '97 Wings or even the '08 Wings. -
Zetterberg only missed 8 games, and has already played nearly that many since his return. Datsyuk hasn't missed any games from what I remember. Bertuzzi has been having a great year by Wings standards, yet Sammy is outscoring him. Franzen is the only guy with an excuse to be outscored by Sammy, since he's been out all year. The OP did a great job showing just how bad we've been offensively. Stats like these are sad, but put things into perspective very well.

NHL Officiating - I've pretty much lost faith in any consistent co

I agree, and it's what pisses me off more than anything. You pretty much know the refs are going to call a penalty late in a game to help a team get back in it. Hell, they gave us a powerplay yesterday late in the game which I felt was coming. It shouldn't be that predictable for fans to know when penalties are going to be called and against which team. -
Could the injuries cause Detroit to miss the playoffs?

Opposing team fans will never let us hear the end of it. They're annoying enough as it is. -
Weirdest team in hockey the last decade. They either make the playoffs and go on long runs, or they don't make it at all. That's pretty weird, considering how on paper, they're pretty much the same team every year with the same players. There's no reason they should win the Cup in 2006, and then miss the playoffs the next few years with basically the same players. Last year they had that great run to the ECF, and now once again they're struggling, with virtually the same team. Bizzarre organization.
-
We don't have any more injuries now than anyone else has. At one point in the year we had like 8 or 9 guys out, but now it's less than that. This team right now is way better on paper than Phoenix, LA or Nashville, yet those teams are playing a lot better than us. That's why I'm tired of hearing people play the injury angle. When you're in denial, that's when excuses start occuring. Many people here are in denial that their Wings may miss the playoffs, despite having a pretty good roster, even with the injuries. Hence, the excuses start coming in.

We have less euros than we have had since about the late 90's, so it's only natural that the team became a lot grittier and tougher. Also, because of injuries, guys like May, Newbury and Janik got playing time which they wouldn't have had otherwise. I think if this team was healthy all season, they'd be just as reluctant to fight and stand up for themselves as they have in the past, because guys like Franzen, Kronwall or Homer aren't going to do anything but turtle. -

The officiating is a joke, but the Bertuzzi play looked like a penalty to me. Bertuzzi just pulled "a Bertuzzi" out there in an important juncture of the game. I think the problem with consistency started occuring when the league turned into this "new NHL" crap, where penalties are called more often than they used to be. That opened the window to all kinds of problems, because many of these penalties were never called in the past. Ever. -
This man will win it. That picture may be the best argument against the existence of a God.
-
I'll blame the coaching too. What the hell, right. Babcock is a guy that seems scary and tough, but this team doesn't seem to respond to him well anymore. Like I said earlier, they don't always put forth 60 minute efforts, which is why they're in this position right now.

I've passed a Pens jersey in the store now several times, and the urges are getting stronger and stronger for me.

You want to renege on this, SWF? -
I hope we don't approach this game the same as last time, because they owned us the whole game. Howard won that game for us.
-
Mindfly, FTW. The last goal wasn't Ozzie's fault however.
-
I know a lot of you don't understand this, but a team deserves what they get based on the way they play. The Wings sat on their asses the last two periods against Dallas, couldn't capitalize on a million chances late in the 3rd and in OT against Chicago, and couldn't score many goals tonight against a team that they owned, including many PP chances. It's not bad luck, it's bad hockey. Not to mention the bird-brained plays by guys like Bertuzzi, Lebda, Stuart and Leino over that stretch. They have themselves to blame. If they miss the playoffs, I'll be pissed, but I'm not going to blame it on injuries. Instead I'll blame it on all the nights they looked inconsistent or took parts of the game off. Also the star players have left a lot to be desired this season.
-
I don't see what ******* us has anything to do with it. Maybe we're smart enough to realize that there are top players in the lineup right now not putting forth consistent efforts every night. You're relying on Kronwall and Franzen to come back from injuries and carry the team. God knows when they'll be back, who'll be injured until then, and what kind of shape they'll be in, let alone how many points we'll have to make up until then. This team needs to go on a run now, and not wait till late March or what not.
