They've shown a few of their games on NHL network, but it figures this would be the game they wouldn't show.

Brad May to Play on Friday (and Friday's Line Up)
GMRwings1983 replied to 40#1Fan's topic in General
I actually agree with GS&T that May is a cheap bastard who's spent his entire career jumping the gun on fights, maybe more so than anybody (along with Dave Brown). That's why I said earlier that he and Rob Ray made perfect cheating teammates. The incident where he jumped Baumgartner still pisses me off. I honestly don't want a 38 year old, has been cheap fighter on our team. I've always disliked this guy. I'm sure that if he makes the team and jumps someone like Pronger or Tootoo, I'll be ecstatic, but right now I have to say no. I agree with everything Babcock said, but this guy isn't the way to address those needs. There's younger better guys out there waiting for a chance. -
I was actually pulliing for him, because I thought it'd be a hell of a story. I wonder if anyone else will move on him?

Lidstrom selected as hockey's Athlete of the Decade

It's hard to compare the two sports, but Federer makes it to at least the semis in every single tournament he's in. Also, I think tennis is more of a sport than golf. Golf is difficult, but so is brain surgery and that isn't a sport either. -
But like I said in my post, Ozzie had a good playoff, yet this team was terrible killing penalties in the playoffs. They almost lost the Anaheim series because of it. So it's not just Ozzie.
-
They sure as hell didn't last season, even in the playoffs. I'm not too sure if I should trust Babcock and McCrimmon on this.
-
Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if Orr was an alternate captain in 1970 and 1972. I think Bucyk was their captain, and Esposito and Awrey were the alternates. If I'm right, and if the OP did intend to say "alternate" captain, than he's right in saying that Lidstrom is the only one to accomplish the feat.

I don't know much about soccer, but Tiger hasn't been more dominant than Federer. As far as consistency in major tournaments, Federer is way ahead of Tiger. -

Am I correct in understanding that Babcock said we don't have much physical presence in the lineup now? Hmmm, his statement sounds vaguely familiar. -

Wait, I thought no one was anti-enforcer, as people always point out. -
I don't remember if Bobby Orr was an alternate captain in '70 and '72, but if he was, then he's the only other person to have done it.

That was that.

On second thought, maybe we should sign May. The guy scores huge playoff goals, which we could have used last year in the Finals. We didn't get many clutch goals against the Pens. Check this one out. -
The only ones you mentioned with grit are Helm, Abby, Bertuzzi and Ericsson. Three of of those guys were already on the roster. Thus we only picked up Bertuzzi. I think a move still needs to be made before the deadline. Doesn't look like anything will be made now.

I can't believe you called someone in charge that was that pessimistic about it. Wait, was it me you called just now?

Anything is better than the number 21 you had in mind.

May has never been in a fair fight. I've always hated the guy for jumping people early and constantly throwing punches at the end of fights. No wonder he was teammates with that cheater Rob Ray for so long. I personally don't want him to be our enforcer, if that's what it comes down to. The guy's 38 for crying out loud. -

You mean the same Kobe that never passes the ball and wasn't even the most dominant player on his team for the first half of the decade? Doesn't hurt when the refs are giving him special treatment, either. -

Souray lost his balance after Lilja punched him in the head (duh), and Neil was grabbing on for dear life. No offense to May, but when Lilja comes back, he'll have to take a back seat to the PAIN TRAIN. That's providing May even makes the team. -
Me too. I'd love to have Boyd Devereaux back. French, good looking and was a great checker. He made that Hull and Datsyuk line go in 2002.

So you're saying that May is a better fighter currently than Souray and Neil? -

I'd put him as the #1 sports athlete of the decade, but I doubt many people would agree with me. -

Nah, the minute the gloves come off, Holland will run on the ice and break it up himself, like a school prinicipal. May will have to jump someone instead, which he's quite good at. -
Interesting formula. If you include icetime in there, you get this: Gretzky 894 779 Howe 801 988 Hull 610 699 Hudler 52 420

Kronwall and Stuart were terrible most of last season. They can be physical, but not as consistently as I'd like to see. Ericsson is by far our most physical force, but if he's paired with Lebda, a lot of that could be negated.
